When was the last time an NHL team had one guy as GM and head coach? I feel like that's unheard of in the post lockout era.

First time for everything. I think that is the only hold up preventing Roy from getting an NHL job. He wants roster control. CBJ are in a good spot to give it to him.

Patrick Roy, the guy who decided to leave the Avs before the season just because Sakic didn't wanted to sign Radulov in the 2016 offseason ?

I thought it was because he was pissed off that the Avs traded Holden

Either way, the issue is resolved here because he is the GM. Give him the control he wants. He wins.

Seems like also he really wanted Radulov because he haved a great coaching relation with him back to the Qleague with the Remparts (with a Memorial Cup win in 2006), but Sakic wanted to go to another direction. I belive also the Holden trade was also another reason.

the last time the jackets did this they drafted Brule when all the scouts said Kopitar.

Dougie Mac was only the beginning of a hell for this team

You don’t want Roy as the GM, you’ll end up overpaying for guys past their prime like Stewart, Beauchamin, Tutin etc.. and will prioritize size over skill. As a head coach though I thought he was great.

I was under the impression he was pissed about the drafting of Jost and that Sakic wanted to emphasize speed more.

I look at this the opposite: Roy bailed on the Avs right before training camp, they hired one Jared Bednar. They suffer a historically bad season and then, hey, things turn out OK.

Not to say Jarmo will be here for it, but still…

Why stop there? Let him start in goal, too. Give the fans what we want, you cowards!

Roy was who I wanted for coach before Babcock was hired. I just think there's far too much work in modern NHL for one person to do both roles.

Based on this thread and everyone having a different answer, I think the fair synopsis is that Roy lost control of his roster input and got pissy.

Fair to say that it worked out fairly well for Sakic and Colorado though, so I’m not sure I’d be handing him the keys to run a roster again.

That said, I think Roy is an underrated coach. Looking back at the defense during his first year is hilarious. Almost no talent on that roster lol

lol, Sillinger is not huge. His listed height is inflated. Look at him when he’s standing next to someone else 6’0, he’s clearly shorter.
