The Avs D core is much thinner without him, and deep strong D-cores are what ultimately make teams have deep and successful playoff runs.</div></div>
He's already got a ton of miles. Two years ago, his first in COL, Bednar played him too much & he lost effectiveness when playoffs came. This season its the same thing, making lazy, uncharacteristic errors as he tries to manage his energy level. He'd be asking to double his salary & contract length. At that point he may only have a couple elite years left, and then he'll start being Ryan McDonaugh.

I like Toews but he'll be 29 to start his new deal. I bet the Avs prefer Byram to blow up so they let Toews walk. Re-signing him looks like Pietrangelo which is not ideal.

I like the Englund deal. I think the stage is set for him to get a LOC type of deal from the Avs like you have here. I might put him in the starting six.

Rumblings that Byram wants to be The Man. Not sure he goes for a bridge. I could see a cheap, 1yr deal in 23-24 due to cap squeeze, his injury, and lack of Arb. Gives them time to sort out Toews. In 24-25, I see a big money deal OR another 1yr Prove It deal for Bo

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LafayetteAvsFan</b></div><div>Just the Horvat problem with a different guy but even more expensive. Would the Avs (or anyone) love to have Timo? Of course. But they can't mortgage the future for half a year of the guy and they sure as heck don't have $10M a year to re-sign him beyond this season (let alone $8M-$8.5M a year to resign Horvat if they did this with him).</div></div>
pure rental, they keep Newhook, and can still re-sign ERod or JTC. I think rental is the way to go, honestly.

Horny for this one lol
EK66 has four more years after this one. Even with retention, this is a potential contender killer... Just ask SJ about Vlasic.

I have a feeling SJ accepting less for Timo. It's a buyer's market for rentals and worse-comes-to-worse a team can just sign him in UFA.
Like you can get Nyquist with retention for much less and still get a productive, scoring winger

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HKY101</b></div><div>As an Avs fan I would give up Newhook for Horvat even only for 1 year ( Cup or bust)</div></div>
I agree. RN the Avs can consider re-upping one of: Newhook, Compher, or Rodrigues. It would hurt this seasons roster to not have Newhook, but Horvat certainly makes up for it. Maybe you add Nyquist too. And, if Newhook leaves, that opens a sport next yr for Olausson or Foudy.

I'd do it. There's an added bonus of getting out from Landy's monster contract. The one thing is a likely playoff matchup, but hat would be a tremendous series!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>There has only ever been 1 sign-and-trade in NHL history and it was Tkachuk this summer. That was because Calgary was the only team in the league that could sign him to an 8 year extension at the time of the trade. That is not the case with Horvat, any team that acquires him before the TDL can sign him to an 8 year deal at any point up until he officially becomes a UFA in the summer.</div></div>
Didn't Kessel get one?

Philly needs to get rid of provorov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PHILLYSZN</b></div><div>There was a good amount of fans, myself included, who wanted him gone purely from a hockey perspective prior to last night. We have a log jam in the LD position, and Provy is one of those fallback options for teams that miss out on Chychrun. He’s still only 26 and has value. Could easily return a 1st round pick and more. Last night just rallied a whole other group of fans to want him gone for personal reasons. So now it’s just more than clear it’s time to move on.</div></div>
LOL, I bet there's a whole new group of his fans.
