Because players take less money to play in warm climates with lax tax laws. 9.1 in Tampa is 10+ in Toronto.

But then you are overlooking that Tampa still isn't competitive with Nylander and Nylander wants to play in Toronto so that price goes up to 10+ anyhow

If Nylander really wanted to play in Toronto, he'd have a deal signed. Words out of an athletes mouth mean very little. They always play to the hometown crowd. His actions speak 100x louder.

It's going to take a lot to get Nylander to leave and Tampa isn't a desirable location to win

Because, again, he's in no rush... He's betting on himself and wants to maximize his money... duh. If he has another monster season and Toronto wants to keep him, they'll pay more, if obvious what he's doing... Maximizing his value but if you can't see it, so be it

So if he wants to maximize his money he would sign in a low tax place like Tampa, not a high tax place like Canada. There's no winning angle on this for your argument. They all contradict the idea you are putting forth.

Aside from the fact that @Byrr pointed out that 9.1M in TB would be around what he is asking, and more than the Leafs are reportedly offering at this time (Ivm guessing they sign him in the 9.25-9.75M range in the end), but the whole reason why Nylander wants 10M+ is because he wwnts to be respected like his other fellow superdtsrd om the Leafs. So, Nylander might want 9.5M like the rest of their key players but 9.1M is much closer to thst number than 8.99M is to 10M.

A study someone did said that wasn't true. Matthews and Marner actually didn't make that much in endorsements when compared to their actual salary. Matthews signed something like 2.3 million in endorsements over multi year contracts. Ends up being very little per year when compared to his 11 mil aav and will be even less now that betting sites can't be endorsed by professional athletes in Ontario anymore.

You do realize that the Leafs can pay out of the US too right? Due to their proximity and would only have to pay NY taxes... Also they have sponsorship adds and they can pay even more via sponsors through companies the MLSE owns... Then you have playoff bonuses. You don't have a winning argument here bc MLSE has unlimited pockets

So now you are just talking out of your ass, making claims you can't hope to prove. The proof is in the pudding my friend and the pudding has lots of examples of players taking less money to play in tax friendly, southern US states like Florida and Nevada.

There's a big difference between the potential money he can make in Toronto and what he's actually getting offered. Matthews and Marner are getting the bulk of endorsements $ in Toronto, yes, Tavares, Nylander, and other players make money off endorsements but that doesn't mean that it's going to be so much that he can't make the same money elsewhere.

As for bonuses, there's no guarantee that Toronto will pay Nylander most of his contract in bonuses, and if they do then that just helps to bridge the tax difference, if they were to concede to his demands of 10M+. The Leafs are supposedly offering something in the 8s though. In TB, Nylander's contract is probably going to be either structured like Kucherov, Point and Vasilevskiy who get 58% of their salary in bonuses, or like Sergachev, Cirelli, and Hagel who are getting 33/34% of their salary in bonuses. 9.1Mx8 in TB at 58% signing bonuses nets more than 9.1Mx8 in Toronto with 91.8% of salary in bonuses. It's kind of nonsensical to include endorsements since that's not the team that is paying them, he can get endorsements elsewhere and Nylander isn't going to lose the deals that he already has signed (if I'm not mistaken, he inked a big deal this off-season).

My whole point though, is that Nylander just wants to be respected, so if TB is offering him 34% in bonuses, then I don't think he signs at 9.1M, but if he's getting the same pay structure as the superstars in TB, I wouldn't be surprised if he takes 3.2M haircut on the overall contract. Although he might be adamant about getting that exact contract, at the end of the day though, the max they can give him based on this roster is 9.385M per year which is probably good enough.

No, I'm not... You see what happened with JT? All those sponsorships and then they all just stopped? He took 'less money to go to Canada' unlike what you say... Bertuzzi is another example, Domi another one just recently. So keep talking out of your a*s

Stamkos doesn't want to leave, the question though os will management want him back. Stamkos is upset nle because he wanted an extension prior to the start of camp but there's been no talk. So, the whole idea of this ACGM is the possibility of JBB pivoting and trading for Nylander before FA next year of he's available and essentiallly blindsiding Stamkos.

The difference though is that Nylander has been in Toronto for 7-years, he already has endorsements from being a Leafs star. Who knows when those deals expire but unless the Leafs win a Cup he's probably not getting a whole lot more new ones. He definitely could get more lucrative deals in the future when they expire, although just because he's not a Leaf anymore doesn't mean he won't get a new contract unless it's an Ontario/Canada-based company. There's always potential for him to get new deals on a new team since he's a star player, especially with one that's been having a lot of success in TB.

As for playoff bonuses, it's not like Nylander would think that TB is going to miss the playoffs all of a sudden if they added him to their team over Stamkos.
