Somehow we got our 3C for cheaper than our 4C. Not much risk here, he should fill our last blatantly obvious hole. Of course we are in cap troubles but I think a trade would be arranged for them to do this signing.

Good deal. Hopefully turns into a bargain deal. Gives Raty and Aman time to develop.

Great pickup for VAN

Suter > Kampf 😢

No he's not. Kampf has a role. 82% Dzone starts. PK leader. Good at the dot. Suter's trying to find his place and it hasn't gone as well as he'd like. He's NOT bad and still a good signing, but he's not better than Kampf.

Good job getting him for 2 years at half of his last contract. I didn't see him play much in Detroit, but I liked him in Chicago, and I was shocked when they didn't qualify him.

I wanted the Canucks to sign this play since before free agency started. I was hoping to get him for $2.4 million or less, so $1.6 million is a steal.

Images removed for simply for space.

You're just providing stats to what I'm saying. 82% Dzone starts is going to lead to poor metrics. A/60 and G/60...hard to score when you always have to start in your own end. None of that gets reflected in your stats. I could play devils advocate and say "Did you catch where Kampf also have to play the shutdown role with lesser teammates than Suter was provided?", BUT truth is... that stat doesn't really matter either. They played the shutdown role. The whole line did. That was their focus/goal.

With Suter and Blueger, that will be two really good C's to have out killing PK

I am showing value also. David Kampf a 2x1.5 was excellent value. Pius Suter at 2x1.6 is excellent value.

David Kampf at 4x2.5 (with a NTC lol) is terrible value. He is not a 3C (now paid like one) and too expensive for a 4C.

I can appreciate that part of it all. It's an expensive contrat for what the "going rate" is in today's flat cap. That's true for sure.

I was more talking about the player and that his stats are skewed negatively for the role he's assigned.

I don't want to take anymore space from this being a Suter page but I would also take his 29 goals over the past two seasons (plus his excellent defensive ability) over Kampf's 18 goals past two seasons.

Yeah, I should probably leave it and not reply because I'm not even a Leafs/Van fan. I do like Kampf though...so whatever. I'm fairly certain goals for Kampf is missing the point of his role. I'm confident management tells him straight up that scoring a goal isn't in his top 5 priorities for any game. A.) Winning the possession at the dot. B.) Stretch the ice to move the puck out of the Dzone. C.) Apply aggressive forecheck if possession is lost. D.) Hustle for aggressive back check if he sees the opponent with a potential high grade chance. E.) hustle to get off the ice. F.) Be good at A-E. That's his role. Goals for him are almost like points for a goalie. Sure, they're points, but hardly his main focus.

Fukc I should leave this also, but we just need to trade back for Engvall so Kampf can go back to winning his mins again

Idk about that considering plenty of 4C's are getting paid around the same range rn with few better ones if any making less.

Roy = 3m
Faksa = 3.25m
Sturm = 2m
Cizikas = 2.5m
Sissons = 2.875m
Jost = 2m
Kuraly = 2.5m
Lowry = 3.25m

Kampf's market value per stats was 2.1m and per Mirtle there was belief he could get 3m on open market. While I would have prefered 2m x 2 years 400k more than value isnt something to belly up over.

He and Lafferty showed flashes of something interesting in the FLA series and next to Reilly and Willy only ones to look good. Caps going up 2024 and beyond so I got little worry for it as who knows maybe with a full training camp under their belt those 2 will find magic.

But yea having him behind Matthew, JT and Domi is not a bad thing

But again...don't you think that's more to do with the role they're each being asked to play? Kampf is always the shutdown center. When Engvall isn't asked to play the shutdown role...aka not playing with Kampf...aka he's NOT soley focused on defense. Wouldn't it make sense that if he's playing with an offensive minded line/linemates and getting more Ozone starts that he'll score more? That's why context matters with the Gf/60 Ga/60. cheers

This is just a fun convo at this point. Who cares.
