Description

Kyle Davidson is an underrated GM and is finally getting some love from hawks fans.

Key Trades Made:

1. Alex Nylander -> Sam Lafferty / Sam Lafferty + McCabe + 2 5th round picks -> Joey Anderson + 1st Round Pick + 2nd Round Pick
----- Davidson find a GEM in Lafferty and gets a 1st round pick for him

2. Alex Debrincat -> Kevin Korchinski (7th Overall) + Paul Ludwinski (39th Overall) + 3rd round pick
----- Debrincat wasn't going to sign long term and get a future top pairing d man and tank for Bedard. (This Trade is a big reason we got Bedard)

3. Brandon Hagel + 2 4th rounders -> Taylor Raddysh + Boris Katchouk + Oliver Moore (19th Overall) + 1st round pick
----- HIGHWAY ROBBERY is what I call this trade. Raddysh is just as good as Hagel and we get Moore on top of it. Also a potential top 16 pick next year

4. Kirby Dach -> Frank Nazar (13th Overall) + Gavin Hayes (66th Overall)
----- Finessing Nazar is great Asset Management by Davidson on top of getting Hayes as well who has been great

Final Thoughts:
The kids are in good hands and that's clear as day. The new signings and trades will make sure of that. 2 really good drafts and now we have the best prospect pool in the league and we still have at least 5 more 1st round picks in the next 3 years and at least 8 2nd round picks.

Kyle has given this team direction and brought back hope to a franchise that tore everything down a year ago. I'm really happy with the direction that we're going in and I believe that Kyle is on his way or already the best GM in the league.

Too early for that. He was gifted a 1OA in a year in which a generational player was available. The trades are good but the picks still have to pan out before you judge them. We need to revisit this in about 3 years or so.

The Hagel trade has worked out well for both teams tbh, and Raddysh is nowhere near as good as Hagel. Also, the DeBrincat trade return didn’t look fantastic at the time and it still doesn’t. Only great trade he made was dealing Dach to Montreal for 13th overall.

Then let’s talk about his cap management and free agency decisions. This dude decided not to extend a qualifying offer to Dylan Strome, Dominik Kubalik, and Caleb Jones. He’s given out incredibly bloated contracts to Athanasiou and Foligno which makes no sense considering he could have just taken on more cap dumps like Josh Bailey. And even tho I understand why he would want Taylor Hall to mentor Connor Bedard, he shouldn’t have helped Boston out with their cap issues for free. Dude isn’t a great GM just cause his team won the lottery.

Strome walking for free is the one mistake he made. Other than that he and kubalik would have scored to much and missed on bedard. Kubalik is inconsistent, Caleb jones shouldn’t be in the league, hagel has inflated stats from kucherov, not enough roster spots for Bailey. Foligno is a great leader and get to the cap floor. And also the cat trade was great and looks better as the days go by. Sens can’t even resign him and they’re gonna get pennys for him.

He got a 1st for McCabe not lafferty, Lafferty fetched the 2nd although McCabe value was a 1st +. But he has done a great job so far as GM.

The buyout of Bailey was planned prior to the trade I believe as he wanted to test FA. They liked the fit with Athanasiou and they brought in Foligno and Perry for leadership. Hall is probably really there so that Bedard can produce but the team will still suck, and they probably want to win the lottery again.

I think KD should get credit for taking advantage of Bedard being in the draft and really committing to it even by letting Strome and Kubalik go untendered.

I'd say we've got the 2nd best prospect pool. What Buffalo has going is crazy impressive. Quinn, Cozens, Petterka, Savoie, Benson, Kulich, Rosen, Power, Johnson, Levi, etc.

None of his picks have played in the show yet. We don't know how good his picks are. And no he doesn't get credit for Bedard, they got lucky that the lottery favored them and he's a consensus number 1 pick.

They weren't last place. They got out tanked and just got lucky that the lottery went their way

Can someone from Chicago explain the reasoning to paying TB a 7th to negotiate a 4M deal with a 38 year old?

Like I get needing to get to the cap floor, but couldn't Perry be had at like half that? Take on some contracts with picks (Bailey for example). Even if you retain half on Perry at the deadline, is someone going to take him at 2M when they were expecting to maybe get him at league min during the offseason?

Bailey doesn't provide the same presence as Perry. Bailey is a leader but he doesn't have the same on ice presence as Perry. Perry is also a winner in the league. He has a hart trophy and stanley cup.

Chicago wasn't worst in the league. They lucked into first overall. He put them in a position to be bad, sure. But no offense, every single GM to ever live can make a team bad. That isn't deserving of credit. They got lucky with the lottery and now they have a potential generational talent.

His prospects haven't played any NHL games yet though. We don't know whether he's picked well.

I'll join the group saying that, while I think Davidson has done a great job getting value for players that weren't part of the rebuild, I also think you have to hold out full marks until we start seeing what these picks turn into. Can't really give credit for Bedard because that's literally winning the lottery - I want to see what guys like Korchinski and Nazar turn into at the NHL level before I start talking about Davidson being the best GM in the league.

Great asset management and I give him credit for that but the jury is and will continue to be out on the picks until guys like nazar, korchinski, moore, make the nhl. I'm skepitcal to crown him this perfect drafter when a ton of our late 1st/2nd/3rd round picks have been off the board from consensus and we havent seen them pan out yet. If anything, KD has huge shoes to fill in the scouting dept since Mark Kelley had an amazing ability to pick out guys like reichel, debrincat, hartman, schmaltz, danault, saad from that 20-40 range AND had the best euro pro scouting dept in the league that snagged us probably a dozen pros since our last cup.

Its easy to tank, its tough to win. I really like what he's done but lets wait a few years before we really determine how good of a talent evaluator and deal maker he really is.
