Laine is better than Norris. While both have had a hard time staying healthy, Laine when healthy has the higher ceiling and the shorter contract. Ottawa would need to add.

You've got the picks going the wrong way and even then it's an easy no; the idea behind Provorov being here is that he's a stopgap we'll eventually move on from to make room for developing kids, and instead you have us committing much more cap space and money and more term to someone who's basically the same except he's smaller and has a concerning injury history.</div></div>

Whoa! Lazy…Laine has actually gotten better defensively while in Columbus. The only reason to trade him is that he possibly wants to move on and he has had injury issues. But when he is healthy he has been decent defensively and pretty effective offensively.

Not sure what you are trying to do here…you are 12 mil over the cap and the team doesn’t make sense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I actually agree here, but it's splitting hairs. A cap dump requires the dumping team to be up against the cap. With Price on LTIR, Montreal is still $10+M away from that. Ex: Kampf has more value than Dvorak, but because Toronto is way up against the cap, Kampf is a cap dump.
He's not a "cap dump", but he's definitely not an asset Columbus is interested in. We might claim him off waivers for free to try him out as veteran depth, but we've got plenty of bottom-sixers. No need to actually pay for more.</div></div>
Ok, maybe not a cap dump per se but he literally has no value and would likely take him going on waivers to get him to move. But the Jackets are not interested in him. And we certainly are not giving any assets for him. 🙂

I don’t know if I would agree. That 2nd is more like a late 1st. Really it depends on what the trade accomplishes for the Jackets. The Jackets would not be retaining anything on Laine’s contract. That money could be used to secure via FA or trade for a true 1C. Not saying it is great value but could be appealing if their is an ulterior motive.

Dvorak has underperformed the past few seasons and has been injured a lot. He isn’t worth his cap hit. At this point he would be a cap dump to the CBJ. Maybe not in your view but in the CBJ’s view it would be.

The only way the Jackets trade works is if the new GM doesn’t want Severson. However, Severson was not that bad. He had his gaffe moments but he does have the ability to really affect the game from an offensive standpoint. If I am the new GM I keep Severson. Skinner is would only block prospects development.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>I don't really see the point from Anaheims perspective. We don't need to be getting a 3rd center with a top 3 pick.
Is the gap between Zegras and KJ covered by the separation of Celebrini to Lindstrom? Probably, but I also ask why CBJ would do this when it's known they could use another top 6 C. This just feels like shuffling pieces around for sh*ts and giggles.
I also fail to see what bringing up Gauthier has to do with anything.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruceBanner</b></div><div>I don't understand why Columbus would think to do this. Even if Kent wants out ( rumours) you would not miss on Celebrini even if you are wealthy at centre.</div></div>

Bringing in some Vet help
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>That's a possibility but Stamkos has made over $100m in his hockey career and he has several business interests on going in Tampa. If he leaves Tampa, it would likely be to chase another cup. It's won't be for a one year payday.</div></div>
See the moves here are to make the Jackets a playoff team. Obviously he not guaranteed a cup but the Jackets need to make moves to get better. This is a low risk type of move that doesn’t screw the Jackets or the player long term. TB just isn’t going to have the money to keep Stamkos wihout screwing them somewhere else on the roster.

Bringing in some Vet help
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Might as well hang on to Laine because Stamkos isn't signing w/ Columbus. And the Hawks aren't making that deal either. Too much of a gamble for a rebuilding team. Laine needs to return to the ice and show that he's still a high level player before he's worth that sort of return from the Hawks.</div></div>
I wouldn’t say he won’t. Stamkos has won multiple cups. Right now he might be more interested in money considering his career is going into the twilight years. He would have a huge role on the Jackets very similar to how Pavelski has helped the Stars.

No. The Canes are competing for a cup. Svechnikov is a part of the core. That core is still very young. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. He is a hell of a scorer.

Very Nasty if they get Cayden Lindstrom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Tarasov probably doesn't quite get that much, but I hope he proves that he deserves it! Marchenko and Sillinger I'd both try to sign longer-term ASAP, they both may get more.
But yeah, D-core is exactly what I'd have in mind. Elvis is probably bought out so that's either Greaves or a UFA/stopgap guy. Hopefully Brindley proves he's a good 2nd liner by 2025-26, and Johnson keeps developing into that role too.
Swap Jenner and Sillinger, make the 4th line Malatesta - LDBB - Voronkov, throw Chinakhov where Dumais is, and give Dumais a couple of years in the AHL and it's literally my ideal 2025-26 lineup.
Really feels like Laine, Provorov, Boqvist, Olivier, Kuraly, Danforth, Texier, and Nylander all may not have a long-term future here.</div></div>
I would slightly disagree. Olivier has shown this year he does have the ability to create some offense. He needs to work on that more but his physical game is just perfect for this team. Texier with Silly and Nylander has been a great 3rd line. I agree with Danforth, Kuraly, and Laine.

Time to Make It Happen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>First, I used your numbers - you were the one that suggested a $2.5M raise for both McDavid and Draisaitl. Here:
Second, all NHL contracts are paid in US dollars, so the Canadian dollar is not any issue whatsoever.
Third, Draisaitl didn't sign "at a steal", he got paid MORE than his closest comp (Pastrnak) at the time. It only appears to be a steal because he developed into the second best player in the world after he signed that deal.
Fourth, McDavid took less money on his last contract as a favor to the team. I fully expect him to take less than he would get on the open market again.
Fifth, the Oilers have won in the playoffs, they went to the division finals last year and the Conference finals the year before, both times losing only to the eventual Stanley Cup champions. The Knights openly said last year that the Oilers were their toughest opponent. And they only beat them by illegally axe chopping Draisaitl's arm.</div></div>
I know that but Canada has higher tax. That matters. I said 11+ mil that means this is on the low end. One could think with the cap going up, most players are now going to start moving towards FA again. The reason FA has been lackluster the past few years is bc of the flat cap. That is going to change. McDavid did them a solid and has got nothing to show for it. Do you think he really is just going to do it again? Draisaitl knows his value. Edm cannot go into this season without Draisaitl under contract.
