Redwings Offseason Preference - Realistic
Trading Copp doesn't seem realistic. Also this team wouldn't be better without him. He gets all the defensive assignments. We struggle enough defensively with him, losing him wouldn't help.
Montour would be great though. Really expensive in this deal.

Zegras Since the Rumors Be Rolling Neither Side Should Do This
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SLAFSQUATCH</b></div><div>Anderson, at 50% retained. Has value to every single team in the league.
I'm really starting to question Duck fans.
I understand the need to get max value for Zegras. But, is he not simply a skilled 65 point wing that lacks 200 foot game?
And yes. If somehow Caufield was somehow in trade rumours and deemed expendable. A late 1st Beck/Mesar/Baron would look pretty good as a potential return.</div></div>
Anderson at 50% is still overpaid for his production. This season he produced at a fourth line level. Most fourth liners get between league min to 2M. The ones on the higher side are likely either elite at face-offs or elite defensively and Anderson is neither of those. He's decently physical and that would be expected in that roll but at 2.75M, that's still expensive.
Zegras has the potential to be PPG+ guy. He's still young. Also he has been focusing on improving his defensive play and he has said as much. That's why Verbeek signed him to a bridge deal, he wanted to see him improve his two way game.
You would be selling low on Caufield, not that I think he's worth what most Montreal fans would think. If Caufield was available and they didn't get a high end piece in return, Habs fans would be calling for Hughes head.

Zegras Since the Rumors Be Rolling Neither Side Should Do This
I looked at your other one, which you labelled as "too much". It's not that it's not enough, in its just not the right pieces. Anaheim won't want, if there was a desire to trade him, mid pieces. They would want a high-end piece coming back. Think of Reinbacher, 2024 1st + something else, Slaf. Those are what Anaheim would be after. Think of the Gauthier trade, they sent a high end piece in Drysdale.
Josh Anderson, even at that retention, doesn't have any value and probably even less so to Anaheim. Have to remember that each team would value players differently depending on where they are at. Anderson has less than zero value to Anaheim at 50% retained.
Farrell doesn't have any value, likely not going to be a NHL player. Also not a player Anaheim would want either way.
Barron has a bit of a value, maybe a 2nd. He's the type of player you could package with your 2024 1st.
Winnipeg's 1st, Mesar, Beck all are mid type of pieces. Anaheim, like alot of teams rebuilding, have a bunch of pieces like that.
If you want a high quality player, you have to offer something of high quality in return, not just a bunch of mid stuff. Ask yourself if you would trade Caufield for that package and if you say no, that's probably your answer.

Draft to ONL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharcuda22</b></div><div>I get that. IMO Sturm is worth a third, so if we took out Fabbri (who i also thought was neutral asset at best but wings could better spend the cap my b) and the fourth. Would you do holl and second for Sturm?
Then the instead of holl being an expensive dump he is essentially trading up 1 round to dump him and then Sturm for the “third”</div></div>
I've made that trade before. I don't hate it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FoxYou727</b></div><div>I understand why San Jose doesn't do that. Just draft the home grown player, but in terms of value just way to much. The 5th overall + most likely a top 10 pick along with Guhle and Dach for someone who never played a NHL game? Celebrini will be awesome but he no Crosby/McDavid/Bedard</div></div>
Hence why Montreal shouldn't do it. It's too much to give up for an unproven player.
It's not enough for San Jose as I'm sure that would rather the franchise altering player. They have a few more bad years to add other good players like are attached here.

Pretty easy to figure out. Montreal shouldn't be giving up that much and San Jose isn't interested in trading that pick.

Not enough and too much. San Jose likely rather just take the franchise type player although they can get some really good players. Just so much for Montreal to give up as well.

I would do that. Veleno had a really nice year. Doesn't put up much for points but for a bottom 6 option, he is pretty decent and improving.

That would leave Edvinsson, Chiarot, Maata, Wallinder and maybe Ghost on the left side?
My impression was that he had a down year, am I correct in that?</div></div>
Walman should be made available. Probably won't though. A bit of a down year I would agree. I think he was battling injuries alot this year. Would be hard to determine value, I wouldn't package him with our 1st though. Losing him to upgrade wouldn't be worth it. Walman and a second I doubt gets it done either. Maybe adding Veleno or something in. Who knows though, really hard trade to gauge. Willing to discuss proposals tough.

If Catton is available, I would hope we do that. Maybe the cost is a bit much. Maybe we send a player instead of all the picks. Veleno maybe?

A couple things I thought would be obvious. Any team acquiring Ullmark would have a very good inclination that he would extend. He has a 16 team no trade list, that makes it very very difficult to trade him. If he is waiving, it's likely to a team he plans to extend and likely retire with at this point.

He's a lesser version of Ghost.
I don't know how bad Ghost wants to stay in Detroit?
Other teams know he sucks at defense but they love his points.
I thought Roy was a shoe in for Detroit being a Michigan Boy and knowing their need for a top 4 RD.
But apparently not? 🙄
Maybe Yzerman doesn't want Roy on the payroll for 5-6 years when he knows ASP will be a Red Wing in 2 years?
Let's say Yzerman signs Roy.
And signs Barrie for cheap as you suggest.
Yzerman would have to buyout Petry or trade/waive Johansson and trade Maatta.</div></div>
Run 8 defensemen. He actually mentioned doing that already. I signed Reimer but that could easily be a spare forward.
ASP is staying in Sweden this season. Probably a year in Grand Rapids at least, maybe a bit more. Similar route as Edvinsson I would expect. That's 3 years or so before he's on the team. Deal with Roy at the time, never know what transpires by then. Roy could be a good, overpaid though, third pairing guy by that time. The salaries can be dealt with at the time. I personally would prefer Roy or a similar player to Gost. I get the desire to have a good powerplay quarterback though which is why I brought in Barrie. At this cost, it doesn't matter if Barrie is not good defensively, I want him strictly to PPQB.

I know, I think it's silly.
He did say that a deal would have to make sense for both sides. Maybe he wants to keep him but for less than he would want on the market?
Barrie can provide the same service. Probably be quite a bit cheaper since he had a down year being behind Josi.
