End of Season Player Grades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CFMan</b></div><div>Fair assessment only one that I disagree with is Megna. Dude was a waiver claim and expected to play murphys role in his stead. Going from 7th d/ahl tweener to the #4 is a lot to ask of someone and he did fine in that role. F is too harsh but C/D would be better imo.</div></div>
Understand your viewpoint. IMO its not entirely megnas fault bc he doesnt control his usage but hes just not an NHL player and pairing him with korchinski hurt KKs development this season so its hard for me to say he didnt have a negative impact most nights, even if he played fine for what he is.
Hindsight is 20/20 but I think it wouldve been beneficial long term for korchinski if davidson had gone out and paid a 4th for collin miller or troy stetcher if he thought murphy could miss significant time this year.

End of Season Player Grades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DangleCat</b></div><div>I agree with most of these...the only thing I will say is that Reichel has looked quite a bit better since returning from the AHL. Hopefully he can continue to build on that next year.</div></div>
Completely agree, he hasnt been the player most hawks fans expected to see until these last 15 or so games but I still have full faith in him to become an impact forward at the NHL level. Shame it took him so long to get his footing this season. I think all the injuries and inconsistent linemates really hamstrung him this year too

Frank is IN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LivingAnew</b></div><div>Hey, Garak and newman23 - thanks for this ACGM and your thoughts. I, too, am excited to see how Frank does.
Garak, can you expand on your thoughts as to why you think Frank wasn't a fit at Michigan? I certainly did notice he excelled in the World Juniors - became a fantastic assist machine there - playing with really good players. Would it be fair to say that his talents were wasted a bit in college; that average players just can't "keep up" with what's possible with him, while superior players can not only "see" what he's gonna do for them but can capitalize on what he does? If that's true, he could make a better pro than college player, yes?
Regarding his contract; i.e., that it took hold IMMEDIATELY and he's burning his first year now... IMO, the Hawks are sending a message to all their prospects: we're gonna give you a shot and not seek to hold you back on earnings. If you perform at a high level, we'll reward you sooner rather than later.
Last, if he's THAT good (including adjusting to the pro game as well as Slaggert seems to have), then the rebuild is really ON. Gonna be great to watch the Hawks grow from here!
Exciting times, indeed.</div></div>
IMO he was playing too low in the lineup too often at Michigan. He (and michigan as a whole) looked great when he was on a line with brindley and mcgroarty but he spent a lot of time centering the 2nd or 3rd line and was never put on PP1.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kyle_Okposo_Lover</b></div><div>haha
I'm a BU fan so I've loved Commesso for a while so probably some bias there.
Nonetheless if fans are still gonna be super high on Knight then ill be high on Commesso too
Also, the Hawks have gotten the most out of Mrazek and I think they'll be able to coach him the same way. And id agree Nazar, Moore, and Rinzel are more NHL regulars. My grading scale includes goalies which is flawed so they're all really high. Need to fix that but I do believe he is a top 10 goalie prospect</div></div>
Yup thats fair, he is definitely one of the better goalie prospects in the leauge. I think a huge part of Mrazeks success in Chicago has been Jimmy Waite the hawks goalie coach who is a hidden gem in the league and I hope he can replicate some of what hes done with Mrazek and Corey Crawford with Commesso.

Can only really speak to the Chicago prospects but I dont think most hawks fans would consider Commesso the top guy in the system. Hes a good goalie and is having a decent rookie season the AHL but I think at this point Nazar Moore and Rinzel are all more projectable as NHL regulars

My take on the Sens situation
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>Brannstrom is a NHL regular, for sure trade him if you don't have a spot.
Chychrun doesn't fit the team, needs to be traded so you can invest in a RHD
Crookshank >> Kelly, Sokolov
It's a risk but it could pay big time since you're not paying much (Reichel lost a lot of value and a 3rd round pick is not much for a player of Norris caliber). Tarasenko is also a guy who had 3 shoulder surgeries
Same. Might as well hope that he regains his form or LTIR him. Unless they can sign a big fish and need to move his salary</div></div>
Trasenko had 3 surgeries from age 30-34 during the back half of his career, Norris had 3 from ages 20-23. The latter doesnt bode nearly as well for his long term health.

no chance chicago is paying anything for that norris contract. The guys about to have his 3rd shoulder surgery at age 23

Good luck keeping toffoli if you dont sell off schmidt. Jets are gonna have a tough time keeping any of their deadline rentals with perfetti demelo and dillon needing new deals.

is it the offseason yet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Right now he's Boqvist 2.0. The similarities are eerily similar. Korch has floundered all year in the D zone. Same mistakes repeated over and over. He seems totally lost in his own end. To think he's going to get "better" over the summer not playing games is a pipedream. How is it counterintuitive to send a 20 y.o. player to the AHL to learn how to play his position when he is so obviously over his head at the NHL level. He wasn't a good defender last season in the WHL. Not surprisingly, that has carried over to the NHL this season. He obviously needs to learn how to play defense. The NHL isn't the place to learn that.</div></div>
The difference between the Boqvist situation and this is that Boqvist was put out there on a team was expecting to make the playoffs - he was given no room for error. Players dont properly develop if the message is "you cant make mistakes" because then they never learn from them. So unless its really effecting his confidence I'm fine with KK learning in the NHL because theres no pressure for the team to win games or for him to excel yet. That said, if theres enough NHL caliber dmen added to the roster in the offseason then I can see the logic in sending him to rockford for a temporary stint to get 25+ mins a night.

Lineup and decisions
For the sake of surrounding bedard with some more talent to help his game continue to develop, you're necessarily going to have to cut ties with a lot of the depth guys, at least at the NHL level. The top 4 D is pretty much set for next season, and you have 7 forwards on the books plus presumably reichel and nazar. If thats 5 starting spots left in the lineup, I hope we fill most of them with bonafide NHL players and one or two top 6 forwards. For me, of the RFAs I like entwistle guttman anderson and phillips. The rest I'd trade, let walk, or keep in the AHL.

Both teams pass. Vegas doesnt have to do anything in the offseason, theyll just let marchy walk if he wont take a sweetheart deal, and with roys contract thats probably the last guy they move. Chicagos not paying for an oft injured forward when they can keep their pick and sign a FA in the offseason.
