Matthews was the biggest believer in Kyle Dubas. This could affect the likelihood of him resigning.

Does anyone else have this horrible sinking feeling that MLSE is going to replace Dubas with some braindead idiot like Chiarelli or Benning?

Anyone short of Eric Tulsky or Brandon Pridham would be a failure. I can't believe the Leafs made the wrong decision AGAIN. I think MLSE likes when the fans suffer

I doubt it would happen, I think Pridham makes a ton of sense. If it's someone completely new, it'll be a mad scramble at the draft and going into free agency

The finally win a round and it’s over for Kyle. Still in shock by this. I’m hopeful for the future but it could get really dark 😢

From what Friedman said yesterday I suspected this was coming. He said MLSE had an offer on the table for Dubas though didnt take it and was still deciding his future

Friedman said in the end he wasnt sure how long MLSE was gonna wait

Now we know they didnt want to wait any longer and its kind of necessary as there's work to do rn

Well this could cause some issues in terms of extending Matthews or this may do nothing as if they promote Pridham I got a feeling nothing in the org changes much as the players probs know that guy

But I do hope we go out and get Eric Tulsky

Hey the guy makes interesting trades when he feels his team needs a spark.

Toffoli trade
Huberdeau + Weegar for Tkachuck (got a feeling will even out next year)

And then we look at his draft history its pretty good

2014: Bennett (didnt work great with CGY but if this version was there wow)
2015: Mangiapane, Kylington, Andersson
2016: Tkachuk, Dubé, Fox
2020: Pelletier, Wolf
2021: Zary, Francis

Now there some issues with him (FA signings be hit and miss and some depth trades be meh) but he is a candidate

Maybe the offer had conditions to it? Like a major shakeup and Kyle didn't want to do that. Obviously without more information, speculation is the only thing anyone has right now.

I don't know how you guys feel about this team but @MatthewsFan is right that there's just too many of the same type of player on this roster in Matthews, Marner and Nylander. A different type of player needs to be brought in and I'm not sure trading Willy accomplishes that.

With Dubas being out now, it's going to be tricky for any guy from outside the organization to come in and make these changes.

Correction: If you want a guy to trade one of your young players for an equally good but older player, he's your guy. Huberdeau for Tkachuk, at the time, was seen as a wash. The big difference was Weegar. That was a weird trade and it has blown up in Calgary's face. I'd much rather promote from within or go for Tulsky

Lindholm + Hanafin trade ring any bells. We want a bold move for the big 4 thats a pretty good comparable

Also look at the draft record pretty good

Bennett, Mangiapane, Andersson, Tkachuck, Dube, Fox (traded but still good), Zary, Pellitar, Wolf (nuff said)

The only ? for him was FA signings but when we looked at Dubas at his start contracts were also an issue especially RFA's

Oh yeah Darche is quite a shout as well
