Hayton putting up very similar numbers to Johnston on a pretty terrible ARI team and he is doing that while getting almost double the Def Zone starts. With all the clouds surrounding ARI right now, he is my ideal target. TOR needs to find a young 2C that can grow with the team. I could see him really break out here is TOR.

In terms of age, Gourde isn't young. I was shocked to learn he's older than Brock Nelson. I thought it was the other way around.

I'd aim for someone younger.

Girard is a Dman who might need a new team and has the tools to be dangerous plus on a nice contract and not even close to 30

Toews and Newhook for Nylander would be an absolutely incredible deal. Toews' contract will be tricky given his age and his inevitability gargantuan payday, but he is one of the league's best. He could easily be a number 1 defenseman for a cup winning team. Newhook is no slouch either. If Nylander is out and Toews could be extended at roughly the same amount as what Nylander would cost (~8 mil) for something like 5 years, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I remember watching Toews play with the Islanders in the playoffs prior to him being shipped off for two 2nd rounders. He was fantastic there as well, I can't even describe to you how jealous I was of Colorado when they pulled that deal off.

In general both are good Dman. The big advantage to Girard hes 25years old (not in prime) and has shown when he plays with a defensive Dman he does very well.

Now if Toews was willing to sign a reasonable extension would also consider him

For the record I love the idea of Toews and Newhook for Nylander. But I’ve had a couple avs fans in ACGM tell me they wouldn’t trade Toews for Nylander straight up so I don’t know what to think.
