Alright, second version of this. Taking some feedback from a few teams to try and reach a consensus on a few trades.
Based on the feedback from my last thread - the Scheifele to Pittsburgh trade is a winner.
Didnt hear anything about the Ehlers trade, so I'm interested in some feedback.
Detroit - I swapped Dillon for Pionk (apparently you guys need another RHD), and added a 3rd round pick, so as far as the NYI pick is concerned, you're kind of just trading back, not losing the pick. I commented this in my previous post, but there are about 10 teams that would be in on a Hellebuyck at 50% trade, and the heat is being turned up on Yzerman to take a step forward. Adding Hellebuyck to the Red Wings would instantaneously make them a playoff team. He's the only goalie who is potentially available that does anything close to this. It's a super super weak UFA goalie group, and there isn't a team in the league with 'two' goalies looking to trade one. You might not like the trade, but you're going to have to give more than you'd like to get a player who has been nominated for the Vezina twice in the last five years, and won once.
Montreal - Y'all can feel free to disagree with this, but I honestly think it was an error in judgement that you didn't pony up and trade for PLD last year. Even at a discount, last year he would have cost you $6.5M for 8 years, this year, it's probably going to cost you $7.5M, next year it's probably going to cost you $8.5M. Add in the fact that last year the contract would have taken him to 31 y/o, this year it will be 32, and next will be 33. The years on the end of the contract are becoming less and less efficient the longer you wait. If you wait until he's UFA its a double whammy of paying more, and taking on less efficient years. You still get back the Seattle 1st rounder, and you get to roll Suzuki-PLD down the middle for the next 8 years while you round out the rest of the lineup.
I added a Dillon trade because the Jets need to free up space on the left side, and Anaheim's defense is no bueno. He's a legit NHL defenceman who isnt going to mess things up for you.
San Jose needs a whole damn hockey team, so trading back from 4 to pick up two top-20 picks in a deep draft makes a lot of sense if you ask me.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 this is not even remotely close to a wings trade, you wouldn't even get 1 first or Kasper for any of these pieces from us..this has to be the worst trade in the history of trades on this site. Wooooooooooooow
Mtl didnt mke any errors NOT trading for PLD. It would be an error to trade for him, period when they can sign him for free in a year. The error was on the Jets part even trading for the guy. Enjoy the late 1st at the TDL at best! They are drafting Carlsson or Dvorsky, both much better defensively with the same floor and ELC contracts. So this whole narrative that PLD down the middle anytime soon with a bargain contract doesnt seem like a reality.
Guy, you aren't getting any one of those assets from Detroit for Hellebuyck. It's not that he isn't worth it, just isn't worth it for us. Pionk for a 2024 2nd and Neiderbach is a trade I could get behind.
"the heat is being turned up on Yzerman to take a step forward"
According to who?
The Wings won't mortgage their future on a 31 year old soon to be UFA goalie. They especially won't trade the equivalent to 2 top 10 picks and a top 20 Pick for one. It's a trade that makes no sense from Detroit's side
Jets fans gotta stop with PLD and 5th OA involved in any trades. Even if there is a 1st going to MTL, Habs easily decline. Michkov>>>>PLD
Michkov may not play in North America ever. I'm not confident any player not currently playing in the NHL or living in North America is making it out of Russia any time in the next 5 years.

I'm not aware of any heat on Yzerman? Did he fall asleep in a tanning bed?

I've heard many people on podcasts over the last few weeks do the "I wonder if people are starting to ask questions about the Yzerplan in Detroit?' schtick.
I'm not saying he's in the hot seat but he spent a bunch of money on FAs last year and didn't really have anything to show for it.
I think this is a trade that works for both sides tbh. Pretty happy I figured it out.
Huge fan of this deal aswell, I made my own a couple weeks ago including Blomqvist, Granlund and a third on top. The fit is very good but if it is to be compared to the J.T Miller potential trade, then there is even more to be had hear for an extremely talented centreman

Scheifele gives you way more cap flexibility than Miller, and you're not going to be paying for him in 2031. If he works out, extend him.

Players brought through FA were 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in points on our team. "Didn't have anything to show for it."

So random podcasters, normal every day people like us on CF saying "I wonder if people are starting to ask questions" is how?
To your backtracking statement with the FA money for no results, real life hockey is not xbox. It goes on for many years, not just one season.
If you believe this to be a fair trade, then you are saying ownership brought him in, let him pick three times (Seider the Rookie of the year, Raymond with over 100 points at 21 years old, and Edvinsson 2 goals in 9 games and already looks worthy of being 6OA), but on the fourth one said "nope, Kasper was a bad choice, trade him and the two picks you thought you were taking this year because you don't know what you're doing." He is improving the team without mortgaging the future, while slowly building the core. Thats how teams like TB stay competitive so long, and aren't just a one and done.

People on podcasts say stuff just to get people to listen and pay for their podcast.
Yzerman signed free agents to fill holes in the roster and hopefully make it so we were a bit harder to play against and not get spanked every single game. You don't develop good young players by just losing badly all the time even though you may get a better draft pick. Yzerman signed players so games would be closer and maybe sneak in a few more wins and it worked perfectly. The team was a bit better and didn't get spanked every game. Do we have a long ways to go yes but improvement anywhere is always good. Yzerman said at his post deadline press conference that they were never going to be buyers at any point in this season no matter where they were in the standings. He wants to develop a team that he drafted for the most part. If there was pressure to try and push for the playoffs then he wouldn't have traded Hronek, Bertuzzi, Sunny and Vrana. The future of this team is very reliant on players like Kasper plus the ones drafted with those two firsts to go with Raymond, Seider and the rest. Honestly the wings likely aren't a playoff team for a year or two and aren't contenders for like 3-4 years. That also requires said players to develop into what is expected of them.
Dillon might be worth the Boston second (60th overall) on Draft Day if we like who we got with our own pick and the Colorado second (59th overall), but we shouldn't go higher than that for him. I mean, it's not as if he's going to get us into the playoffs in 2023-2024.
Not a student of the game hey. So many questions about the Det trade.
To give context for what you are asking for and the historical prospective, the Red Wings in 2001 traded for Dominik Hašek the cost being a 1st round pick (#30 in 2002) Vyacheslav Kozlov and future considerations. That is a long time ago, before the cap and when draft picks were not as highly valued. Cory Schneider in 2013 for the 9th overall pick is the next closest thing, but had two years left on his deal, and at the time was a league leader in goal. The point is that the ask for have here is beyond a reason for a historical reference.
