Agreed. His deal is very good but maybe that why they should explore trading him. He is at peak value, and there is no big name on the market right now. It's also his last season before trade protection kicks in

Oilers with Guentzel and Hanifin
I like these trades, but I think the comparison is not quite there. The key in both of these trades was that Detroit received a top-20 first round pick with upside, whereas the Oilers will almost definitely have a very late first. The pick in the Giroux trade also held a lot of value because it was far out and unprotected, giving some uncertainty and upside. It is very cool to see that the Oilers could absolutely get trades done, but I think they would have to pay slightly more because there picks will be so late.

Big time offer sheet and more
At that cost why not just trade for Byfield? Also I'm not sure Byfield would cost that much on an offer sheet because the Kings are probably budgeting around 5 million for him right now. But the Kings and Phylers have made a lot of trades recently so why shouldn't they use their cap space as leverage and instead try to trade for him for less and on a cheaper deal.

I think if Seattle traded those players right now, they could easily get a return equal to a first. Young, right shot defenceman with a year left on their deals at a reasonable dollar value are very valuble.

True Pros
I agree based on value about what you say about Batherson, but as I said I feel the Sens need to prioritize immediate players rather than picks because it will encourage the fans and try to put an end on the losing culture. Brannstrom is someone who I've debated the value of before, but honestly the Sens should be happy to get anything out of him because he is a bust. I don't think the Tarasenko trade will look like last year's, I think it will look a lot more like the Taylor Hall to Boston move or Kane to New York. Most contenders don't need score first wingers at the deadline, and I do not see his market as frothy, especially on his number.

Same could have been said about Gavrikov, McCabe or Chiarot. A player's value rest in how many teams want them and how badly. Solid young right shot defenceman with a low salary? high demand

I hate to say it, but I think Walker will cost much more than this. I think I heard somewhere the ask is a first, which is still a little much in my opinion. Walker seems to be playing really well and helping the Flyers to a playoff spot as of now. I think there will be way too much interest to make a trade with this little value coming back

How do they even make trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>It's really weird to me how much people are speculating about a Laine trade. He has been very happy in Columbus, he has taken an active mentorship role with Fantilli, he just found a new gf in town, he spent the majority of his summer in Columbus this year, he has been very productive in the games he has played over the last 2 years. It's like a rough 15 games that include recovering from a concussion suddenly has reset all of the work he has put in over his time in Columbus to develop his game and there was never anything positive about him being with the team.
Same goes for Kent Johnson to a degree. He was struggling due to his size and instincts so they put him in a position where he could work on those parts of his game while also getting reps as a 1C to get used to that position in a professional situation. How that is being construed as an ongoing negative is baffling to me. Like the team has constantly been given **** for rushing their prospects and now that they're giving a high profile one extra time to work on parts of his game that badly need to develop they're still getting **** for it. What gives?
In what world do the Jackets even remotely consider a Gudbranson buyout? He has absolutely been earning his contract after settling into a more suitable role, but again people want to pretend like they've been watching him play and that there has been no improvement to how he has played with them.</div></div>
Do not want to pretend to be a Blue Jackets fan or even someone who often watches them so I'll get that out of the way. Obviously when your team sucks and you healthy late healthy scratch a player out of nowhere and have been playing him at NOT his position for the past year-ish because you need more of that position then there will be trade speculation, that's just sports. The concussion could play a role but they wouldn't scratch him as a punishment if they knew that it was affecting his play. For Gudbranson, I just wonder who the Blue Jackets want on their team long-term and even next year. Provorov, Severson, and Wrenski are all obvious locks to play in the top 6, and getting reps for Jiricek, Boqvist, and Beane would all help them as they develop. That leaves Peeke, Gubranson, and all of the rest of their depth defenders without a spot the way I see it, so it's a matter of whether you want to pay him 4mil to be a 7th D or if you're willing to eat the dead cap.

What would a Flames Rebuild Look Like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>I had skipped this part but what makes you say that actually? Sens rushed to sign him to an extension on July 1st before anyone else.</div></div>
Ice time, mostly. If he is as good as many are saying he is, which could very well be true, he would not be averaging well less than 20 minutes of ice time a game and Ottawa would not be trading for guys like Chychrun

I hate to hate, but absolutely nothing about what Brannstrom has done since coming to Ottawa has made him worth a 2nd. Throw in the fact that Ottawa is cap strapped and clearly does not like him, and offloading him for a 4th is pretty solid value in my opinion.

If I'm Kyle Dubas I'm not letting Jeff Petry hold up the Erik Karlsson trade. Get on a call, tell him your not going to play him and threaten to buy him out. From a career perspective, Petry would do better in San Jose with more opportunity than in Pittsburgh where we all know he's cooked. If it's just about money anyways, why not get it somewhere where the games matter less and the weather is nicer.

Huge fan of this deal aswell, I made my own a couple weeks ago including Blomqvist, Granlund and a third on top. The fit is very good but if it is to be compared to the J.T Miller potential trade, then there is even more to be had hear for an extremely talented centreman

Michkov Drops to 2nd Round
Firstly, this article is almost guaranteed to by complete b.s speculation, because if there was anything concrete here then more, and more reliable sources would be reporting on it, not just some Montreal sports talk personality looking for something to say in one of the dullest times of the year for non playoff team
Secondly, and most importantly, I don't really think that it is fair or right to see an article like this and think about how the habs can capitalize. This is an 18 yo kid, trying to find his way in the pro ranks as he plays for 5 different teams in a year, getting moved around like a chess piece, used essentially as a political weapon by the russian government to keep away from the states, and worst of all, he just lost his father. I know we all want to see our teams do the best but this is horrible for a child to have to go through, one's first reaction should always be empathy when you see someone struggling like this.
Finally, if you want to talk hockey or the draft, there is no absolute way he falls to the second round. Logan Mailloux had a huge scandal on his hands, was less talented than Michkov and asked not to be drafted, but still got picked in the first. As per russians, neither yurov nor miroshnichenko come close to being on Michkov's level, but were both easy firsts. And finally, if the habs don't take him at 5, it means they don't want him, under normal situation he is the consensus 3rd overall pick (or higher), so this is not about value, it's about being in or out on a horrible situation.

What flawed narratives? That players take time to develop and Crosby, Malkin and Letang are old? The trade comparison is the Horvat trade, Raty is a better propect than Blomqvist, Beauvillier and Granlund are comparable and the first is slightly better and a 3rd is added because Scheifele is better than Horvat and Raty better than Blomqvist.

Again, next year I would. Draft isn’t as star studded as this one and with the trade going through we would likely finish in 20ish range hopefully, making it more value for us and more comfortable for us to pull the trigger.</div></div>
Duh. There's two sides to a trade. And in this case, the team giving up the only currently good player and only good one for the next 3 years needs something in return.

I know you're talking about the right side but the Habs have a great young D core even after this (Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Mailloux, Beadin and lots of picks) The value here is too good to pass up from Montreal's standpoint.

Gotta trade good players to get good players. Unless LA is comfortable going into their young core's prime without a true option in net, then this trade makes a lot of sense. Hellebuyck is a world beater and immediately makes them true contenders

JT Isnt Going Anywhere So A Real Rebuild Requires A Major Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DeadWingsv2</b></div><div>Detroit isn't trading 1sts</div></div>
Petterson on the wings is so tantalizing, and for that reason I think its absolutely worth it giving up the picks. The first this year or next year most likely at best are players as good as petterson in 5 years, if they ever get to that point, which is by no means guaranteed. In the NBA, draft picks get traded all the time and in large quantities, even though players are more pro-ready out of the draft. NBA GMs simply understand the value of players they are acquiring better, and are less attached to the hope which picks bring. This is a trade Detroit could not loose, more so Vancouver could win with some savvy drafting
