This team doesn't win the cup.
VAN accepts the Boeser trade though.

DeBrincat, Toews, and Kane ship has sailed. New era in Chicago. Also, we aren’t a Bedard away from competing. We still got a few years of rebuilding to do.

We should start a hawks ACGM bingo game.

Brought back Toews, check
Brought back Kane, check
Traded for Debrincat, check
Traded out multiple 1st round picks, check
Spent back up the the cap, check
Misguided belief that this is a playoff team, check

Aaaaaaand Bingo!

10 months ago, Mrazek took a 1st to move (price: negative 1st round pick)
Since, he has put up a 0.894 Sv%, 3.66 GAA season.
Now, he has positive value (price: 5th round pick)?

That probably is not even a playoff team...maybe....just maybe in the West it is. The LHD group is terrible as in awful. The center depth is poor. Bedard is probably good right out of the gate, but if you think there won't be some growing pains and a 5'10 185 rookie center is taking a team on his back to a cup....nah. Beyond Bedard (who I would not be shocked to see playing wing part of the year to shelter his transition to pro hockey against grown men), that group on centers is not good much less cup contender.

If you can add a piece or 2 in free agency or a trade that help insulate/give bedard someone to play with and has a chance to be around in 3 or 4 years as still a productive player....sure go for it. Otherwise make the draft picks that are in front of you, develop the prospects and picks and keep your powder dry until next Summer where there is a great UFA class and hopefully some of the holes have been filled by prospects and you have a better idea of which other prospects are close to filling more. Something sustainable is not built overpaying for free agents (most of which you regret the deal in a year or two (if not sooner) ) and trading off 7 top 100 picks which is what you are doing in this AGM.

I really like DCat, but you are talking about what is likely a top 5 pick in the '24 draft, another in the low 30's with that 2nd, and yet another unprotected 1st. I'll take that top 5 pick on a 3 year ELC and a high 2nd over paying Dcat way to much for to long (and he is not signing for 5....more like 7 or 8).

Last point....that is a midget team that gets pushed around when whistles get swallowed in the playoffs. You are not looking for small wingers to pair with a not overly impressive physically Bedard.

In fairness here, it was a 1st (#25) and Mrazek for a 2nd (#38), but also yes, he absolutely still has negative value.

My point wasn’t so much the value from 10 months ago…it was more that he hasn’t done anything since that would increase it.

Yeah, I think the only change is that he's only owed $4.4 mil as opposed to $8.6, but I 100% agree with you.

Devils already lose 6-1 with what they have....they don't need to lose 9-1 with Mrazek.

Setting aside the rest of the nuttiness everyone else is addressing, you cannot possibly for one second imagine that the Blues would trade Bortuzzo to Chicago, let alone for peanuts. Boy, put down that glue.

This doesn't really work.

The roster wouldn't have more than an outside chance at the playoffs, but it also wouldn't be bad enough for a high draft pick. Chicago's stock of good forward prospects starts and ends with Frank Nazar and Lukas Reichel (who isn't on this roster for some reason). Unless we think those guys are good enough to form a contending roster around Bedard, the Hawks still need another couple years of lottery picks. And thanks to the DeBrincat offer sheet, Chicago wouldn't even have their own 1st-round picks for the next 2 years (in addition to losing their 2nd and 3rd round picks for next year).

Given that Bedard will likely reach several performance bonus benchmarks, this also puts Chicago too close to the salary cap ceiling -- if Bedard ends up qualifying for more than $1M in bonuses, the
team would be docked salary cap space for the following season.

Mrázek is worse than the goalies that New Jersey already has, and he's not worth his $3.8M cap hit (much less his $4.4M actual salary for next year).

While the Canucks need to shed salary, Kurashev is barely an NHLer and Boeser is coming off his best season since before his dad fell ill. It'd take more than a 2nd, a late 3rd, and a 5th to make the trade worthwhile for Vancouver.

Fleury is probably expendable for the Wild, but his statistics this year are almost identical to the numbers he posted with Chicago last year -- when he was traded for a 2nd round pick. Minnesota would need to be desperate to deal him for a 4th.

Would never give up that much for Boeser. Wouldn't offer sheet Cat. Wouldn't pay for Bortuzzo or Fleury. And wouldn't get anything for Mrazek.
