Erik Portillo a signé un contrat de 2 ans d'une valeur de 1 750 000 $ avec les Kings de Los Angeles, le 22 avr. 2023. Le contrat comporte un cap hit de 875 000 $.
Glad for LA because they didn't waste a 3rd by acquiring him and glad that Sabres could get something for him. Portillo has all the raw skills to be a really solid backup or good starter in the NHL. He's huge and his movement is very good. I hope he turns out for LA.
Yes, it’s a good signing but I think players who don’t want to sign with the team that drafted them are selfish D-Bags. Has put the Sabres years behind with this pick even though they got something for him luckily. There needs to be a rule in the NHL you play with the team that drafted you or you don’t play in the NHL. Drafting College players is more risky than drafting Russians.

Gee, here in the US, and I believe in Canada, too, we believe in freedom of choice . . . and it applies to sports, too.
You guys got a third for Portillo and you'll get a second for Ryan Johnson. Suck it up.
Like Korpisalo and Gavrikov chose to go to LA? Should Bedard just get to pick what team he plays for? Business and contacts are different from freedom of choice in other aspects of life.. Clearly a distinction not recognized based on your comment. You want to play in the NHL you follow the rules, my point is the rule needs to be changed otherwise College prospects are a major risk.
I don’t think anybody is against freedom of choice, fairness in draft pick destination for all NHL organizations is another issue.

Context matters so much. How do you know for sure that Portillo said that he wouldn't sign in Buffalo? It seems equally as likely that the Sabres may not have had interest considering they have guys like UPL and Levi. And even if he didn't want to sign with the Sabres, can you blame him? Like I said, the Sabres have Levi and UPL. How do you think that looks to him?
In a case like Adam Fox where he forced himself to NYR, I guess I can kind of see your argument, but that's the choice the players make. Who are we to judge
The only thing I’m not a fan of here isn’t the player himself but the fact the contract starts this year. Feels like a waste of an otherwise cost-controlled year. Great player though.

Because that precisely why Portillo didn't want to sign with Buffalo. They have so much goaltender prospect in there hierarchy that it would leave Portillo as the fourth or fifth Goalie. And the guys want to be the second or third in the hierarchy to be able to have ice time he think he deserves.
