Why isn't Darnell Nurse on here? Also why is 40 point winger Okposo here with 1 year left at 6 mil?

Contracts that expire this year are hard to say they are the worst. To me the worst contracts in the NHL are players who will make 7 million or more to the time they are 39 years old. If only I had some recent examples to draw upon...

Having Seth Jones on here and not Darnell Nurse is criminal. These might be the most overpaid players but not necessarily the worst contracts. Buffalo is probably happy to ride out a deal with a guy like Okposo, Lucic and Monahan are certainly worse because of the cap pinch in Calgary but the one year deals aren't so bad for teams that can afford it.

Gallagher and Nurse gotta be on here. OEL as well

Agree.....Nurse is a terrible contract.

I agree with all three that the contracts expiring this June aren't so bad, and I agree with everyone that thinks Nurse and Gallagher should definitely be on this roster.
Petr Mrazek's contract is pretty ugly -- two seasons of a $3.8 million cap hit (a total of $7.6 million) but actual compensation of $8.6 million should merit mention here.

The thing about Jones and Nurse is that they're horses - they play a TON of minutes and they play against the league's best offensive stars constantly. If you look at the past 2 years, they are #2 and #3 in the league for 5v5 minutes played, respectively, and #3 and #2 in TOI/GP. Nurse is also #1 in the league for 5v5 goals among defensemen, and both are top-20 for points. Nurse is top-20 for PK TOI and leads the league in PK goals among defensemen.

These guys are super valuable players, every team wants guys like this. Are they overpaid? Yes. Are they among the league's worst contracts? Not by a long shot. Massive defensemen with effortless skating will be coveted and effective long into their 30's - see Burns, Brent.

Gardiner’s contract sucks, buts it’s more inconvenient that actually terrible. Nurse or OEL would be a better fit as a worse contract. Okposo is another one that is an overpay, but is more inconvenient than actually being a terrible contract. Grubauer definitely shines the best when he has a very good dcore in front of him, and I would say that this most recent season should probably be a write off, since it was a transition season for the entire team. I’m just holding out on my opinion until the end of the 2022-23 season, cause I have already seen many comments from last off-season about how Mrazek and Andersen would be performing this last year. If he can bounce back this year, I would probably take him off this list. Other than that, I agree with the rest of the list.

Although I would argue that players like Gallagher, Hamilton, Kadri, Tavares, Nurse, and OEL should probably be on here.

I guess it's how you look at it. If you took all of these players and made them ufas today, okposo doesn't get anything like that, but under the circumstances it's really not that bad. Same with Skinner, he's obviously way overpaid (thanks botterill, I mean who was he bidding against?), but he's probably gonna score 30 again on a team that's gonna be 20 million below the cap.

I think it's criminal that Seth Jones is here instead of Darnell Nurse. These athletes may have received the highest salaries, but that doesn't mean their contracts are the worst. While the financial pressure in Calgary makes one-year agreements less desirable for clubs without much budget space, Buffalo is likely content to see out phrazle contracts with players like Okposo, Lucic, and Monahan.
