Dobson and Suzuki; if on similar contract terms are going to be of comparable value in the NHL amongst GMs. All the tangents get away from the OP.

The Habs are "pre-paying" him to be their 1C just like Avs bet on MacKinnon when he was a 60 point t player. Whether that bet wins or not isn't possible to state today. If Isles give Dobson term it is a similar bet.

I guess it depends on the GM, but id think any average GM can evaluate that Suzuki hasn't had a top line impact so far, where Dobson just put up an elite season. The player that has had an elite season (given their ages) should have more value.

Sakic signed him to that contract and there was a lot of evidence that he was going to break out production wise. Suzuki is elite defensively, very good on the powerplay, but his offense at even strength is mediocre to bad. That's why im not high on him becoming a 1C, I think hell be a high end 2C, similar to Cirelli.

The difference between them isn't significant and id take 7-8 years of Dobson at 7 mill over 5 more years of Hughes a 7.85 mill . It doesn't make sense for either team, and it would mean that the isles have to re-sign Scott mayfield to play on the 2nd pair which isn't ideal.

No. Both teams decline, Canucks decline more. Hughes is simply better than Dobson. Not too much argument there. As @Db1899 said earlier though, the Isles RD will look a lot worse without Dobson. Same with the Canucks. Would rather not have OEL be our top line LHD for the next 5 years

Hi guys. Hope you are all doing well. Funny how whenever I’m gone all the exciting stuff happens: first the Tkachuk trade and now this. Kind of annoying lol.

Just wanted to say I’ll probably be on here less from now on. I just feel like I waste way too much time on here. I just feel like there are more productive or useful things that I should be doing, or I should be reading my bible instead of going on here. So I’ll be on here a lot less from now on. Also when school starts up I feel like I need to concentrate more on that too.

So to be clear, this is not goodbye like it will be for @PointStamkosVasilevskiy219188 (which by the way, we’ll miss you dude. You’ve always been one of the most levelheaded people on here and it has been great chatting with you). I’ll still be around. I just will be posting a lot less. I still think this is a great community for discussing hockey, and whenever I want to discuss something hockey related I’ll come back.

Also my thoughts on the whole Kadri Monahan stuff, and I guess Calgarys off-season in general. In the short term, they are not worse, in fact they are probably better. This is going to be a dark horse cup contender. They may have gotten worse in the long run by adding anchor contracts, but if they win a cup it will be worth it.
