Description
If MTL pick is 2nd overall. What would MTL have to add to make it work? Just trying to figure out value. I know both are probably not available.

Its gonna cost more than a first, unless it was the first pick for Bedard you arent getting dubois 1 for 1.

i would say Laffy is more likely. Seems like Winnipeg wants Dubois more than Schiefele for the future

So you're asking Bedard for Dubois? Wow that's a steep price.

I think Suzuki and Dubois have the same value, but i don't think we can get Bedard for Suzuki.

    Neither.

This team isn't one player away from being competitive, so it makes absolutely no sense to trade away such a valuable asset for an unproven winger or a 60-pt center.

Give it time, let the rebuild happen internally.

I'm not trying to rush the rebuild and be competitive right now. Would be nice to bring a young elite hometown player.

Because of where the jets are and what they need they likely say no to this. They don’t need to sacrifice right now for 4 years down the road. They’re needing to retool and compete in 2 years. It sounds nuts but I think even if it was 1OA this year they say no. 2023 draft different story. I think the value of the pick to the jets is much lower than Dubois.

Leafs fans were happy bringing Tavares home. Sabres fans are happy with homeboy Tuch. Coyotes fans dream of Matthews.

If Winnipeg shops Dubois, he won't get the 2nd overall pick. They won't be dealing from a position of strength because Dubois will be in the driver's seat. He has arbitration rights, and only two more years of team control remaining. Similar to the situation with Trouba, he can wield that as a no trade clause. Am I saying he can legally block trades? No. But he can state he will only sign an extension with a specific team, or no teams at all. At that point, no team will risk giving up anything near a 2nd overall pick for Dubois. As we saw with Trouba (and Mark Stone), an extension also doesn't equal full value. When a player limits the marketplace, the team who gets the extension is rarely foolish enough to offer up anything near full value.

Lafreniere is interesting. I could see a deal around Lafreniere for one of the top 5 or so picks. Not first and probably not second. I wonder if the Senators would go hard after Lafreniere. They will either be preparing to market the team for a sale to a new ownership group, or a new ownership group will have taken over the team. Lafreniere is the most marketable French Canadian (potential) star to come around in decades. The hype for him was palatable. You could taste it through the TV at the draft lottery when Montreal had a chance at him (it tasted like Poutine FYI). Now, we're talking about Ottawa, not Montreal - but you have to remember that the Senators cater to a significant Francophone fan base. They are planning a downtown arena, which is right near the Quebec border. In terms of building hype and selling tickets/merch, acquiring Lafreniere could be huge if he pans out.

What would Lafreniere to Ottawa look like? The Senators likely will pick in the top 7 of the draft. That pick would have to be included. The Rangers were rumored to want Tyler Boucher last year, but the Senators took him at 10. While he is not likely seen as a top 10 talent, let alone a 1st round talent, the Rangers might disagree and still want him. Add in a roster player like Alex Formenton, and that would round out the package. Formenton looks to be turning the corner as a top 9 winger, so he could fill in the spot on the depth chart that Lafreniere would otherwise occupy on the Rangers third or fourth line behind Kreider and Panarin on the left side.

The reality is, these types of trades are difficult to make. GMs don't want to be the one who gives up on a future superstar, but at the same time if Lafreniere doesn't break out offensively in 2023, his value will plummet. If the Rangers new management doesn't fully believe in Lafreniere, now might be the last chance to get significant assets for him. The decision might be made easier because of how deep their team is on the left side.

“Clutter is caused by a failure to return things to where they belong. Therefore, storage should reduce the effort needed to put things away, not the effort needed to get them out.”

I wouldn't one for one. And i think Suzuki and Dubois have about the same value. That's why i asked what MTL would have to add.

Winnipeg have so many centers, they could draft Nemec or Slafkovsky with the 2nd overall. And whatever MTL have to add. And they'd have Dubois money to bring another UFA.

    Boom!

The Habs window needs to have players grow together like every dynasty. Some players will hold different value based on teams competitive windows. Exactly why players like Hagel hold so much more value to Tampa than say the RANGERS

Their defence structure is so much like the Canucks. Just a mess. They need another 3 years to have Harris-Norlinder-Barron-Guhle-Mailloux-Romanov develop together and let some of these awful deals run out like Savard, Armia, Hoffman

Its the media not the fans. They keep pushing guys like LeTang and Lafreniere in our face so we kind of go with it but few actually want those players with the asking price going the other way. Whether it's assets for Laffy or an enormous overpayment for Tanger
