Now, whether Kane and Toews will agree to waive their NMCs is another hurdle that the Hawks' GM will need to get over.

But if he wants the rebuild to finish sooner rather than later, that's what needs to be done.

It didn't seem like trading for Duncan Keith or Brett Kulak was a wise thing for Kenny Holland to do either frown

I can't think of a team that needs to spend precious cap space on center depth less than Edmonton.

Spending 8 mil on goalies and trading a 3rd for a backup goalie doesn't seem like a very smart way to rebuild.

I'm teasing. I don't know if he's a locker room cancer like Evander Kane is, Georgriv might have something different to say, but he's got a very long rap sheet too. Everyone deserves second chances, but I believe AD's on his 3rd or 4th chance. I hope they both keep their heads down and just focus on good things.

Like you said, Davidson isn’t the issue, it is Toews/ Lane’s full NMC. If/where they get traded is entirely up to them and, honestly, that could be something that takes away quite a bit of leverage for CHI (see PHI and the Giroud trade). Davidson’s job is to convince them to go.

Not to mention, CHI is going to have to retain 50%, likely get a broker involved too. Toews’ cap hit is ugly, and even though Kane is still producing at a very high level, that is a hell of a salary to take on in its entirety.

Nobody wants Toews. Offloading him would require a massive deal. Nobody wants a 10-goal scorer at $5.25M. Blackhawks are stuck with him, but it will only be for another year.
Also, how is us giving you a third for a second fair? Then again, giving a young guy who has a much brighter future than Toews with a second round pick for a $5.25 bum (not disrespecting Toews' legacy, he's HoF for sure, but he's a bum now) is outrageous.

1. Nobody wanted Duncan Keith ... except for Kenny Holland.

Everybody thought offloading him would take a massive deal ... except it didn't.

2. On the fairness of being given a second for a third ... you missed the part where I say "the Oilers make it to the Cup Finals".

3. Giving Caleb Jones, a young guy with a brighter future than Duncan Keith, with a conditional third for a 5.5 million bum, was outrageous.

And it happened anyway.

That issue can be solved if the Hawks pay a 3rd team a pick for retaining a quarter of Kane's salary.

1. Drury could have hung up on the Blues over Buchnevich.

2. I have a feeling you are severely overrating Lafreniere, given what he's been able to do since being drafted.

Yes it was odd, but hopefully Holland learned his lesson. But here's the underlying truth about Keith's contract: if he retires with us we get a bonus next year in cap. Additionally, Keith is far more important for our NHL-ready prospect's development (most of who are defenders), whereas we have a veteran presence already for our forwards. Additionally we have no spot open for Toews, but we did for Keith.

If we do make the cup finals than I can see it happening, still highly doubt it though.
