Potential Ottawa Cat trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Take out Zaitsev and that is probably a slight overpay for Cat alone, depending on where that 2023 1st ends up. But with Murphy involved and the Zaitsev dump, I really think there needs to be one of JBD, Lassi, or Brannstrom involved. Also, I would probably prefer Formenton over Greig, if we are looking for someone to eventually become a top 6 winger. Yes, he will probably cost more in the short term but Davidson has said more than once that he wants to play a skill game with high end skaters. Greig can play at a high tempo and be quick in small bursts, but his skating overall is below average for NHL players. It's looking like he projects as a pesky checking bottom six forward, maybe 2nd line if he can work out some of the kinks with his skating.</div></div>
As a big DS9 fan... I agree with this post.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>I’d rather trade Formenton and keep Greig imo. Greig will be cheaper next few years and can be our 3C.</div></div>
We still have a few decent center prospects in the system (Ostapchuk, Lodin), but I agree.

A bit of up and down. Needs NHL reps for sure and a bit of man strength.

Hawks need a franchise potential player in their top 6 as a return for Cat and while Greig may potentially reach his ultimate ceiling and become that, the odds are against him moreso then say a Logan Cooley or Alexander Holtz.</div></div>
Oh for sure! You take that and run!
I'd take Slafkovsky over Cooley though. Personal preference but centers do go higher in the draft. Slaf just reminds me of Hossa... ;(

Oooooof.... 1 or the other on Greig and Pinto. Can't have both. That does solve... a lot of issues for Ottawa.
Ah man... I'd say yes.

Doing the impossible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>I've seen a fair number of the Garland-for-JBD+2nd trades and I'm not sure I like it as a VAN fan; can you give me a proper scouting report on JBD? For a "2-way" Dman his point totals aren't jumping off the page for a prospect.</div></div>
Two-Way is generous. He's a stay at home type of guy. Nothing flashy, just smart and safe. Perfect partner for a guy like Q. Hughes. We always thought he'd be a great fit for Chabot when he was ready. That was, of course, before the Zub.

I'd take back Tyler Johnson if you're including Murray in the deal.
That first line is scary...

If scorched earth approach (I mentioned this to you I believe yesterday?), a return like this is a pretty good one. Greig is our best two- way prospect in the system, might need a little time in the AHL to hone his craft... Thomson is our best RHD two- way d in our system and could jump into the lineup next year (hell of a cannon on the kid). If you want Brannstrom, I'd include him over Lassi any day.
I would include C. Brown half retained so Chicago could move him at the TDL for more assets.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Melnyk_0ut</b></div><div>I would agree but it sounds like Debrincat is likely to get traded at this point and I just don't see them getting a blow your socks off kind of return. Teams don't like giving away the farm like that. Giving away the 7th pick and Greig is already a tough pill to swallow but definitely worth it for debrincat. Look at the return Eichel got</div></div>
Eichel situation was also an organizational mess from top to bottom. Eichel wasn't going to play without the surgery he wanted/needed. There were talks of terminating his contract and I don't blame Eichel at all for what he went through in Buffalo.

At the detriment to the on ice-play, yeah. What a strange in-house rule to have. Kind of like the in-house budgets we have in Ottawa. I'm glad they went with Kent Hughes. Dude seems to know his stuff when it comes to hockey.

Still need a top 4 D... maybe JBD the following year can sneak into Hamonics spot.
Forwards look great though.

To a certain extent. Some french speakers are a little bit more aggressive and proud of their french heritage and language. Which is their right... I meant no offense to the joke. I'll keep it to hockey from now on.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Melnyk_0ut</b></div><div>It's a hypothetical. What the hawks want and what they are offered could be two different things. Different scenario obviously but sens traded a top 5 RW in the league with an extension and got back Erik Brännström and a 2nd after a year of saying "other teams will offer something better"</div></div>
Different scenario. Stone was leaving regardless because he wanted to win. He was also a UFA.
Cat is an RFA, a legit 40 goal scorer and will be playing with Stu for years. Picks and prospects are picks and prospects. They are mystery boxes until they get that shot. I think Greig has the potential to be a Brad Marchand 2.0. I think Thomson is going to be a top 4 D man. That 7th overall is going to be a good hockey player... just not right now.

The way I look at it, they need to recoup assets from the Jones deal.
The 7th overall, Greig, Thomson/JBD and an unprotected 1st next year is a good start. I would throw in Connor Brown at half retained if they want to move him at the TDL for more assets.
