Countries will submit a “long list” of players that will be a preliminary roster (just a guess like 50 players) that will be cut down by mid January. This long list comes out October 15th.

So we will see if even gets considered in a month.

The NHL can also back out because of covid or because of missed games during the season (like if Dallas has to cancel 20 games and so on) that cannot be fit in if we have the two week break. This could also come down to the wire, like the NHL could opt out less than a month before which could screw the Olympics and possibly result in no men’s tournament or Countries not having a team (like USA and CAN could have not enough players able to participate if they cancel too late resulting in no team USA or CAN if the things go poorly).

That’s a weird thing to include. Since if a player is opting out of the NHL season, you’d think that means they don’t want to play hockey at all. And even if they did, then the team and player would most likely agree on a mutual contract termination and the player wouldn’t be NHL property anymore.

Not that I expect anyone to fall under this category anyways.

Apart from Kuemper, pretty much everyone who was voted in is a lock

It would be so weird to see him back in the NHL after all this time away, only playing 10 World Championship games in the last season.

I mean the votes are pretty much who should be on the team, but I wouldn’t expect the people running team Canada to get the 8 best D available. Doughty and some other ridiculous choices are definitely going to be in there.

Unfortunately Doughty is going to end up going instead of Hamilton.
