Well, this one's easy.

Lightning? No? Never heard of them?

Avalance? Doesn't ring a bell?

Heck, even the maple leafs are better than this piece of crap.

Oh, never mind.

The bottom six is still a mess, they honestly just rearranged things rather than actually getting better.

The defense is also subpar, especially with Klefbom out. Bear and Jones I like a lot but Nurse is kinda meh as a top pairing option, Barrie is a PP specialist at this point and Russell and Larsson are pretty one dimensional.

Once again, they’ll be relying on the top-6 and power play to do most of the work and we saw how that went against Chicago. Don’t want to put too much on the Bubble, but I think it showed you what teams are at their most basic levels. With EDM, they were kinda shallow and I’d argue they still kinda are

Defense, goaltending and depth. Clearly not one of the best. But they will be relevant every year with McDavid and Draisaitl on their team.

Don’t listen to them... they don’t like the oilers, as everyone trashes them. The thing is, they aren’t the best. They are my favourite though! They are also very good, but not the best. Lightning, and Avalanche are the two best teams in my opinion.

JP a possible breakout season ahead. Turris, a former first line forward, Yamamoto, played at a point per game last year.. horrible. The Oilers made actual improvments where as Calgary got worse. And the Oilers finished higher last year then both Calgary and Toronto. Just trash

Bottom 6 is fine. D could be fine, its all banking on Jones if he can handle top 4 minutes. Koskinen was league average last year so as long as he doesn't get worse we will be fine.

Absolutely, before it was how many first overalls do you need? And now it's the Chicago diss. Just jealous they have McDavid and Draisaitl. Two talents the hit with the draft.

The bottom 6 is improved. Turris >> anyone their last year, JP> same. More games from Benson hopefully, not to mention, a full season of Hass and Nygard plus much more makes their bottom 6 much improved.

Losing klef hurts but Nurse is solid, a healthy Larsson is solid much better then Russel so clumping them together doesn't work. And Barrie will help the Oilers move the puck better fromnthe backbend which they have needed for years.

Their top 6 is improved. Kahun, JP, a full season of Ennis rotating from top to bottom 6 is they get streaky, I also guarantee that more then 2 of the new players will okay at their best game which will also help them win more.

Goaltending was league average as long as it doesn't get worse they will be good.

Toronto, flip a coin mate. Buckle up and get ready for real Canadian hockey because 6 out 7 will be competing for top spot

Definitely not the best team in the league but they definitely improved, had a good offseason, really think they need another legit top 6 winger though, maybe Pulujarvi or Kahun can be that winger but adding a legit top 6 winger would make a huge difference for this team, a one year Granlund signing would've been great, no Klefbom hurts the backend for sure but the Oilers have a lot of promising D prospects so maybe one or two of them can step up.
I think Kassian, Chiasson and Ennis will all be in the lineup, will be interesting to see how the Oilers do.

SInce it has been decreed that the top 4 teams in each Division this year will make the playoffs, Edmonton is probably a playoff team, but I bet that they don't finish first in the all-Canadian division. Goaltending, as even the most devout adherents above recognize, is at best League average; the defensive defense is worse but the offensive defense got better; and the top-6 forwards probably improved and the bottom-6 forwards didn't. If they get to the third round of the SC playoffs, I'll be surprised.

Well I see this different than most comments.
Let’s look at it.
Sat second in division when season paused. At the time of the pause I personally feel we were seeing the team just hitting their stride. Then comes offseason going to skip play in series anyone who follows oilers knows that series wasn’t the same team. During the offseason that’s when things get interesting. Upfront only one subtraction Sheahan good pk guy but overall rather insignificant loss. Replaced with turris if you don’t see that as an upgrade give your head a shake and start watching curling instead. Then Toss in kahun and jp important to note no other forward subtractions that’s how you add depth to bottom six add more bodies than subtract it very easy concept also very effective one. So took a team sitting second in division that had 2 first lines and two 4th lines and added a very good third line. When you factor in how teams defend against mcdavid and Leon that third line is bound to get a lot of easier match ups and suddenly looks even more threatening. I think Holland did amazing job there.
On the blue line here’s where some fair but questionable criticism comes into play. Loosing klef sucks obviously best all round defender on the team in my opinion. For the first time in as long as I can remember we have depth on the back end that can minimize the effects of no klef. It’s no one guy that’s going to replace klef it’s going to be a team effort. Holland let benning go and replaced with Barrie suddenly don’t have a 3rd pairing that requires sheltering tippet can deploy pairings based on game time situations. So even being down klef I still view the blue line as improved because we got away from that sheltering pairing.
In goal it’s the same tandem as last year and I know a lot of people like to crap on smith but he had a few brilliant stretch’s and being a shortened season and kosk takes more of a workload we don’t need much from smith 20-25 starts at most. Not as big of a deal as some like to make it out to be. I see a lot more improvements than question left for that reason I absolutely think they are going to surprise a lot of people this coming season and by deadline be seen as one of the favourites.
If want to point at Tampa as a better team sure that’s fair just won a cup but we are all still sitting here waiting to see how they maneuver around the cap still big questions around them right now. Avs sure they are a deadly team lot of quality youth coming up in many ways I feel they are a very comparable team from top to bottom which should open a lot of eyes that oilers are a lot better than given credit for.
