Does this idea work for both sides
Zero chance Edmonton would give up that much. Honestly as surprising as it may be for fans I think Barrie is boarding untouchable territory. Organization loves him by every report I've ever seen.

Both trades are massive overpay in my opinion.

I'd be very interested in ekholm but that deal as presented doesn't make much sense for Edmonton.

Trying not to be the worst MTL fan on this site
Well the rangers trade needs adjusting since Montreal doesn't and won't have Jesse's rights given that offer with Edmonton. Very very very very fast decline.

looking Forward
I'm curious if Bouchard gets moved at deadline. This is the deadline I suspected Holland would choose between Barrie or bouch and if the window is now and next 3-5 years... Barrie has been winning the job and given bouchards age he would be more desirable. It's a move I'm sure the fan base may not agree with but possibly a nessisary one.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Just_A_Guess</b></div><div>I could QB the "undisputed #1 PP in the league" when one of the (if not THE) greatest player on the planet is on that PP. Barrie's points are mostly assists from playing with great players, not from being great himself. Anyone can give the puck to McDrai and pad their stats.</div></div>
Then why hasn't nurse ever done what Barrie does on pp? Why hasn't bouchard taken that spot for cheaper? Maybe it's time to credit Barrie for being a very quality nhl player that has very positive effects on the game. ...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dickie_boon</b></div><div>its not a step backwards. it is constantly shown that what edmonton needs is a stable defense and edmuson is perfect for the 2LHD role. its obvious barrie isnt hte answer</div></div>
Barrie obviously isn't the answer for the left d situation but moving him to help fix that is just creating a hole on the right side where they are getting more than fair contributions from so that's where the step back comes from even larger once Edmonson lands back on ltir. That point will have a huge hole on both sides. Easy huge pass

Very different ways to impact the game but Barrie quarterbacks the undisputed best pp in the league the team relies on heavily to win games. He's played alot better than this site will credit him for. Edmonton isn't going to fix issues by moving out the players pulling own weight. Not only is a horrible message to the team and leadership group which Barrie is part of its also not really accomplishing anything risking paying alot for a big step backwards. I'd be interested in Edmonson if on expiring deal and to make money work someone like kulak who hasn't been helping the team was involved.

ideal HUGO trades lines
I hope Holland stays far away from Edmonson. Just asking to start next year in ltir just like this year and will severally cripple next year's deadline options. Holland should just tinker around the edges of the roster and let the year play out. Aim for next year as beginning of big swings.

Barrie is by far the best player in that trade with Edmonton. Have them giving up quality picks as well is a huge no.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rext7177</b></div><div>And Giving up Kulak wouldn't make any sense as if he slides down to third pair we can just Bombard other teams with 3 strong left side guys, Kulak is just an average guy on 2nd pair but throw him on the third and thats one of the best 3LD in the league</div></div>
I'd argue broberg is better than kulak.

I'd try kulak and a pick anything different or add on would leave me wanting to walk away from this idea. Good target but it's not a game changing one so would be careful about the cost.

What's in it for Edmonton? Think they are better off just letting Jesse play out the year and leave him unqualified.

Can't see Holland moving that many parts. Broberg would be a really tough one to pry from Holland it's his first draft selection in Edmonton

How about kulak instead of Jesse? Limited on right shot forwards so Jesse although struggling still has a place on the roster and not big fan of pushing broberg further down the depth chart he deserves playing time. Still think it's an overpay but one I wouldn't fuss over.

Going to turn over half the roster mid season..... with this many trades would think one of them would favour Edmonton but easily lost them all... better off standing pat

I think Edmonton would push for Graves the need is on the left side. Understandable at this point Devils are doing too good to move him so doubting a deal is there.

Oilers aren't gaining anything with ducks trade.
Barrie has been good all year and is reliably durable I wouldn't risk moving him for a guy thats been on and off ltir for a couple years

So be it... Edmonton keeps the better and more versatile player... never said it was a good idea only that it was most sensible of the trades listed.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>turtlemountain</b></div><div>Barrie has had such a weird career. He was pretty awesome for the Avs, but I wonder how much of that was because EJ carried so much of the tough defensive minutes so Barrie could get sheltered.</div></div>
Or could it be that Barrie has always been a good productive player that unfortunately spent a brief stint in Toronto where that fan base completely demolished his reputation? He's had multiple really good years in Edmonton but since Toronto fan base is soo loud and ignorant to watching other teams play nothing he does will set those voices straight... Maybe people need to wise up and realize the problem might not be Barrie might have more to do with a certain fan bases talent evaluation.
