I am seeing an unprecedented amount of hate for the Toronto Maple Leafs captain, John Tavares.
You stuck up bunch of selfish losers are lucky to have that 1-2 punch down the middle. I can probably speak for Wild fans, Rangers fans, and pretty much anyone else looking for a good center. Do you know how much I, a flames fan, would love to have Tavares on my team?? his leadership qualities are amazing. The man has dignity, pride in his play, and a stupid amazing work ethic. You for YEARS have had a 3C as your 1C, and now you have 2 Bona-fide 1Cs.
Yet you arrogant leaf fans are throwing one away because he's "Not good enough" "On the decline" "Lazy" "Paid too much".
Yes, hes paid $11,000,000. But you get what you pay for, hes not just a scorer, hes a leader, and makes everyone around him better. Not once has Tavares been at the center of a controversy, not once has he been unhappy where hes played, not once has he complained about his linemates or coaches. Be grateful you leaf fans, that you have a player like John Tavares on your team.
Be thankful that you have an amazing center like Tavares, who makes those around him better, and scores while at it.
Honestly, from an outsider, You guys have something special in Tavares. Cherish him and what he brings to the team.

You joke but I bet someone on sports radio has called in to suggest this. This is why a ton of players don't want to come to Toronto. It's a large fanbase but there is a very vocal section of chuds who will throw anyone and everyone under the bus if things aren't absolutely perfect.

And yeah, it’s the largest fan base, the centre of hockey in Ontario/ Canada basically (surrounded areas included), and a major media area. The amount of “media product” that’s demanded to feed the mouths is massive. And with so many people it becomes so loud because you could have 100 thousand fans crying for his head and than 200 thousand loving him, but that’s a very loud 100k (and a large group) and combined the fanbase needs more and more product so all the stations and personnel have to feed them. Add on top of that that once Toronto began to get better, the raptors actually got better and then won it all - whereas Toronto has gained no real ground. So you have a major disconnect where you have champion team - then fail every year on the other side.
11 Million for a leader whos best years are behind him. His best year before signing this deal was 86 points how in the world did he sign this expensive of a deal. And get this San Jose was going to give him more money it would have been an even worse contract!
Toronto will never win a cup paying 4 forwards 40 Million. Keep the three young players and trade Jonny...... Oh **** you gave him a NMC. Well i guess you have to trade one of your young players if you want to have a chance at a cup.
I do think Tavares gets the raw end of the stick on here more than he probably should. But I don't understand the Leafs fans on here anyway. They hate on Taveras and Marner, but are OBSESSED with Nylander who still has a career high of 61 points. It's mind boggling.
It's displaced anger as to why Tavares gets beef. He's the #1 OA...He's the Captain...He gets PAID. So when his results are 1 single playoff series win in an 11 year career. He's the guy that gets heat.
I will say...it's expected to be all of what you're saying. He's supposed to be a "leader, and makes everyone around him better. Yes, there's a number of Leaf-haters that go on, and on, and on, and on, about spending that large of an amount of the budget on 4 forwards, but I do think that a large portion of Leafs fans hate the Tavares signing, hate Mitch Marner (or to a lesser extent Nylander), because for some reason they think that not having Tavares would have miraculously ended with them signing Pietrangelo, which is hilariously dumb.

Bad coaching (to start the year), lack of overall team defence (again mostly a coaching/systems issue), lack of maturity/consistency, and below avg goaltending were the true downfalls last year - none of those are related to $40M on 4 fwds.

the penguins won back to back cups spending 40% of their cap on kessel, crosby, malkin, and hornqvist
they spent 66% of their cap on forwards, the leafs are spending 65%
