If, if, if he comes back and looks decent, I might consider something like this if, if, if, there were conditions. Something with games played and points, otherwise the pick downgrades to like a 4th. He's just too high risk at this point to even part with a straight 2nd (imo).

kinda sorta weird offseason
Appreciate something new being put out there, but I don't like the trade for Colorado tbh. Roslovic is pretty meh. I think the Avs could re-sign Compher for that AAV and (if needed) trade Girard for a similar player to Bean plus picks/prospects. It would leave them in a better position both now and going forward imo.
I also think Rodrigues and Byram get more than that. But again, interesting post. Nice to see something out of the box.

Avs decline that easily tbh. You got bad info somewhere, as they aren't trying to move Girard. They may move him if they find something too good to pass up, but this doesn't get there.

Why are the Avs selling at the deadline? And if we're assuming the wheels fall off, they why not also sell Rodrigues?
Also, Galchenyuk has been a disaster. It was worth a shot, but it was a miss. He'll be somewhere else down the line.

Avs pull a Kucherov and LTIR Landeskog
The team does expect Landeskog back during the season, so they won't be Kuching any Ovs this year.
I do think Toews is a possibility for them though. It's just complicated, as they'd need double retention. AA is likely off the table due to lack of an effective 200 foot game.

avs fans thoughts
Take out Foudy and I don't hate it. However, adding anyone with that type of salary most likely means Colorado has to move someone out. And I don't think they'll be willing to do that.
This is why I think they go after a Toews or Monahan. They'll be cheaper to acquire, and there's a chance they extend at a reasonable number, which would allow the team to keep their main pieces intact.

I like the pieces coming to Colorado, but I can't see the Avs moving Johnson. He's just too big a part of the team, even if he's not what he used to be.
I'm also not sure how they make the cap work next season, unless they're willing to move on from Girard or Toews (and I'm not sure they are).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>turtlemountain</b></div><div>The price on Toews is reported as a 2nd or 3rd. Jack Johnson doesn’t have much value at all, so let’s call that a 6th.

Which is why I said they won't be offering Girard, lol.
I heard a 2nd and a 3rd, but please correct me if I got that wrong. Plus the Avs will need double retention, which is another asset to a third team.
It gets kinda expensive, but if they think Toews might stick around another yearvor two on the cheap, could be worth it. I like the fit, personally, but I know others think he's done.

I wouldn't be surprised if Colorado ended up getting both those guys, but they won't offer up Girard as part of the return. Maybe Olausson and the 2nd or something like that, which I think some Avs Fans would still hate.

Gotta go with Coga here. No chance either of those guys are on the table for Bjugstad. Fwiw, the Avs won't be able to offer up a fight on a new deal for him. Yotes can still sign him after the year.

I agree that it's a bit light, but I also think a 2nd is too high. Could add a mediocre prospect or make it the 2025 3rd, but that's really all the Avs can realistically do, seeing as how they're pretty slim on picks.

I know JP has untapped talent. Worth a shot if the price is low enough. But if McDavid and Drai couldn't unlock it, I wouldn't hold my breath.</div></div>
Bjugstad PKs in AZ. He leads all their forwards in TOI . Is he as good as Helm? Idk. But he's certainly an option for the role, which is important.
In terms of JP over AA, I'm a believer in bottom six forwards being defensively responsible. JP is a very good even strength defender. AA is really bad. Even if you convince me the latter may bring more points, which I personally think is possible but certainly not guaranteed, I'd still be more in favor of the former.

Chicago isn't bringing out the best in anyone right now. I think AA is deep enough in his career where he knows he would be a role player and accept the role he gets on this team where younger guys like puljajarvi still want to show they can be top 6 players, plus his speed i think would work well with our 3rd line.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NMAvsFan</b></div><div>Agree about both players - Bjugstad would be a good depth addition but AA is a defensive black hole
How much would Edmonton as for JP? I know they've soured on him but he still has that 1st-round pedigree. If they'd do a "change-of-scenery" swap for someone like Kaut, that would be cool.</div></div>
I don't think the price for JP is very high. There have been. Rumblings that Edmonton went from thinking they'd need to attach an asset or retain on him to optimism they'll get something in return without retention. So my guess is Kaut or a 4th or something like that. My speculation (with nothing to back it) is that they may want to send him to the East though.
In any case, he does have some untapped skill, and I like him in a third line role more than AA. To me, AA is a top six guy who isn't good enough to be in the top 6. One of those no man's land players.

I can get behind Bjugstad, but I don't think Athanasiou is a guy I'd go after. He's fast but otherwise I don't see him as a worthwhile add.
How would you feel about targeting Puljujarvi for that spot? I think his skillset would mesh better with Compher and Newhook.

As an Avs fan, I'm glad that you're also just an Avs fan and not the GM, lol. Newhook is not a guy you give up for a rental, and especially for a team that has no prospects that can replace him or his role going forward.
Swap him out in favor of Olausson and then maybe it's more realistic. I personally don't think Colorado will meet the asking price for a trade or his next deal. Horvat picked a nice time to have an outlier of a season.

Come on now. You can maybe get one of those pieces for Horvat plus some other lesser assets, but all three is straight ridiculous.
Also, the Avs won't be trading Newhook at all unless it's some crazy, off the wall deal for a young, cost controlled 2C that no one has thought of.

Yeah there are a couple whiffs (Bleakley over Pasta or even McCann being the biggest). But generally they seemed to hit when good players were available. JT Miller over Siemens would have been nice too, but I think the team really wanted that big D in that draft, so I went Oleksiak.
Anyway, obviously this played a large role in bringing the team a Cup, so I wasn't expecting it to be bad. Just wanted to see the roster in an alternate universe I guess. It's surprisingly good on paper.

Yes but maybe not this year. Especially since Landy and Nuke have been out so much. Hard to develop into a 2C when the other two thirds of a second line are out too.
