Girard is playing on the right and doing well. The problem at the moment is that Colorado is missing Makar, Byram, and Johnson. If they all come back the losing Timmins is probably ok. Not great timing, but they could deal with it. Before a couple guys return it will be super rough though.
I personally don't want to move Timmins at all, but it's worth it for a legit 2C.

Agree, but I'll add that they may just ask SJ to take Compher or Donskoi instead of Jost.

What I think it would take for Eichel to work in Colorado from cap perspective
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>I think its just too convenient for 2 of the biggest UFAs to both take money off their deals. Just the Makar thing....making him take a bridge is going to hurt down the line, to the point you major contracts to deal with in Mack 2 years down the line, then Makar again, then Rantanen....at that point the team will be pretty much dismantled to keep those guys
Try to get the makar deal done now so you dont have to rip apart the team every offseason bc you have 10m in eichel that you reallydont need bc if you believe in newhook, whats the point.
If you dont believe in newhook then thats a different story</div></div>
I believe in Newhook, but few are as good as Eichel.
That's beside the point though. You should love this post because the whole point of it is that Eichel is a bridge too far. It's basically illustrating what you reply on every Eichel to Colorado post.

I think that landeskog contract is about 1m too low and bridging Makar is a bad idea, its going to hurt the team really bad down the line, you try to get the long term deal done now.</div></div>

There could be something to a Patrick/Timmins trade. Seems a bit steep for the Avs as it stands though due to the risk involved.
Timmins has had rookie moments, but he looks like a sure bet to have a long and successful career (imo). Jost is also valuable to the team due to his cost and defensive play. Adding a first on top seems like a lot, even with Laughton included.
I tried to come up with a counter but am strinking out. Timmins and Kaut for Patrick and a third or something? Idk.

Backlund Bennett

Exposed: Donskoi, Jost, Nichuskin, Graves, Johnson, Francouz
With Compher gone there wouldn't be as much pressure on needing Seattle to take a $3m contract. There's also some redundancy with Jost and Nichuskin so either one who gets taken wouldn't be back-breaking. Alternatively you could expose Bennett and just treat him as a rental this year; he's an RFA though which reduces the chances of getting taken too given that Seattle can only take up to 10 RFA's in the expansion draft.
Backlund would absolutely not be exposed. I'd rather have a high end 3C than Saad personally. Decent and cheap middle 6 wingers are much easier to find than a good 3C as well.</div></div>
Thst assumes Johnson waives, which I hope happens but I'm not counting on it either. That aside, someone with a decent salary probably still needs to go (Graves or Don, if not both) since this adds cap. Would have to run year two and see.

Mixed feelings. I like Backlund now, but this keeps him here until age 35, which I don't like. It also likely means losing Saad, which may or may not be okay.
The expansion draft gets a little weird too. Not necessarily problematic, but it would definitely throw some wrinkles in. Maybe Backlund is exposed and taken, in which case the two way retention is bad.
Idk, lots to think about here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Anus_McLeod coga16 Based on the discussion in the other AGM thread...
I quite like this. There's a lot of flexibility here, as Haula can slide to 4C and have Granlund at 3C if you want to roll 4 decent C's. The money matches up well too.</div></div>
I dig it actually. Lots of depth and flex at a reasonable price.

I thought that too but pretty sure he's playing C right now (granted due to injury). Valid points though.

If it’s improve the team without selling the farm team, go ahead</div></div>
I'd trade a first for a good player at a position of need, but I wouldn't for (a) a decent player at a position of need or (b) a good player at a position that isn't a need. I think applying that label to me based on this acgm isn't really a fair depiction.

I figure that Demers is like a budget version of Savard so he'd be more in line with Sakic's previous trade deadline moves.
Copp is having a great season so it probably takes a 1st unless they love Timmins.</div></div>
I just don't think he'll be available. Obviously things could change, but the Jets look very likely to take ine of the top four spots in the north.
How about offering Compher and Kaut for one of Granlund ir Staal? Maybe even get a mid-round pick in return? Kaut filling a roster spot on a cheap deal makes the Compher contract easier to swallow for the other team.

I don't see it that way. Quite the opposite actually. The fourth line has often been one of the best lines the team has. They haven't been able to finish but have done everything else. And obviously Bellemare is a big part of that. The other strength of the team has been the D.
Here we basically mess with two things that are working pretty well, when all that's really needed is a 3C to hold the bottom six together. It's too much (imo).
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMs</b></div><div>Savard won’t come cheap</div></div>
Yes and that's why I said above that it's aiming too high. There are diminishing returns when you force a guy like Graves to either sit or play fewer minutes. It's an expensive move for only marginal improvement.
Having a few competent depth defensemen is enough when you already have 6 guys who are capable of filling a top 4 role. Adding a 7th top 4 guy is overkill.

Tierney Savard DeSmith
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>They can roll 12 - 6 for the rest of the regular season when games aren't must-win, while rotating Dmen to keep them fresh. Injuries will probably force rotation anyways. Then in the playoffs with a healthy lineup you roll with the strongest possble lineup. The bottom 6 has too many forwards who don't produce offensively, so it's pretty easy to drop one and just rotate them in and out depending on needs. I mean, do we really need Bellemare playing 10 minutes a night? Or can those minutes be distributed to others who can have a bigger impact?</div></div>
I'll think about it more but I tend not to like the 7D approach. Bellemare, for example, may not eat a ton of minutes but he plays PK and takes important draws. That would be missed.
If Savard is cheap the I guess sure. Too many defensemen isn't the worst problem to have. Kaut is a fair amount to give though, even for a guy that is not all that high on him). I'm coming around a bit though.

It's a fair point for the playoffs but not for this condensed regular season. 11 forwards would put a lot of burden on the forwards, and 12 forwards means a good defenseman sits. I guess considering this team is constantly injured maybe it's not an issue though, as they would be down to only 6D in no time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>As mentioned above, the 1st for Tierney has as much to do about moving Compher's awkward contract as it does about Tierney himself.
I disagree on Savard though. Adding him would insulate the Avs D group and give them a legit physical force on D in matchups against the likes of Vegas, LA, St. Louis, etc. They also wouldn't be completely dependent on Johnson staying healthy, and would give them 3 good PKers in Graves, Savard, and Johnson. This is the Avs best cup chance and they can't be pinning their hopes on Johnson's health.</div></div>
Graves on the bench is a waste to me. He's too good for that. I like many of your posts but this isn't one of them.
I do appreciate that you illustrate it may be tougher to get Compher's contract off the books than we tend to think. I really hope it's not that tough though.

While Bellemare has been struggling to score this season, him to Glendening is more or less a lateral move. That leaves it as Miska and a first for Bernier. And while Bernie has been pretty darn good this year, I can't see anyone sending a first for him.

Avs have the top pk in the league at the moment, so I highly doubt they'll be after a guy like Nieto. Maybe they'll take him for additional depth but probably not at that price.
