Gary Bettman is screwing the Islanders

Explications
Bettman isn’t letting players sign contracts for this season, of course when Sorokin was due to sign. Now because Sorokin wouldn’t be able to play in the NHL until at least December, he is talking to his former KHL team-CSKA Moscow-about signing a one year contract so he can continue to play. The Islanders don’t appear to have a back up plan, so here is one option:
-Greiss will most likely be asking for something around $4mil for 1-2 years. The Islanders can’t afford that with a flat cap.
-The Islanders sign Aaron Dell to a prove-it deal. Dell’s numbers have been mediocre over the past two seasons, due to the Sharks poor defense and goalie coaching. Islanders goalie coaches Mitch Korn and Piero Grieco have been known for turning mediocre goalies into great goalies, such as Robin Lehner. Dell would a good bounce back candidate if the Islanders can get him.

This is, of course, only if Dell isn’t resigned by the Sharks.

Lehner was not a "mediocre goalie" before he got to the Islanders he just never had a good defense in front of him

Option C: Give a chance to a fringe NHL guy making less than $1 million (Gibson/Coreau are examples with NHL experience who are currently in the system). Not the best option, but an option nonetheless. If I dug around I could find some better examples

They arent screwing the islanders. You can still sign him for next year, normally players arent allowed to sign and play after TDL so thats normal. Dell will be getting 2.5 mil likely or just under

Sounds more like Sorokin is screwing the Islanders.. guy can't hold off for 2 months to play in the NHL over KHL?

Well yeah theres been trade rumors and issues for years with him. That Org doesnt want to commit anything to him and he wants his spot in the NHL now or he wont come

Aren’t getting rid of Ladd for a first. Too much term remaining. Dell is established enough to get 2-3 million and doesn’t need to “prove it”

That Brazil deal is crazy. Sign him to a 2 or 3 year bridge deal at $5m or $6m and save the rest in reserve in case an offer sheet comes in on him.

The Islanders want him to be their long-term starter and to get him to burn his elc so they can sign him to a regular contract. NHL decided to change that rule in the last second.

Just what the Senators would do. Take on 3.75m X 2 for 4th line winger Clutterbuck. Jets may have. difficulty taking on all of Leddy's cap without sending cap back.
Three years of Ladd, too much term, cap and money for any team to take on a minor leaguer.
