Gorton made up for his questionable Kreider signing earlier. Basically traded Skjei for Kreider (cap-wise) and a 1st. I love this trade. Been saying for two years they had to trade Skjei. And I can't believe they got a 1st in return.
This is weird. I thought Rangers had to give up a 1st to dump that contract, and was wondering would it be enough. But they're getting one in return? They must see something I don't see. Skjei contract does not look good, I don't even know if he's a top 4 dman
SO the leafs traded Carolina a first for cap space and that first turned into Brady Skjei... That's incredible XD. Y'all talking about Skjei like hes garbage, he's a young top 4 defenseman making 5.25, that is not that bad and we got it basically for free for being responsible with our cap space.
But if both get lottery spots and carolinas is 1st 👀👀👀
Or more likely, both make the playoffs and it is a 20 something or a 20 something for Skjei, that's good for Carolina IMO. And wouldn't the leafs like to have a Skjei right about now
I hope Toronto and Carolina lose every game from now on. They play each other once so i hope Toronto wins that one to increase the Rangers and Islanders' playoff chances.
So Leafs basically stood pat, while the team with a stack of defensemen (despite the injuries) added more.
I'm confused.
Also, this is the same Carolina team that embarrassed us just the other night with solid defensive play and desire. And they're only getting stronger on D...
Their D core is ridiculous: Slavin, Pesce, Edmundson, van Riemsdyk, Gardiner, Skjei, Hamilton, Vatanen, Fleury.
On further thought about the Leafs, I'm kind of glad they didn't make big moves. These players shouldn't be let off the hook that easy.

And Jake Bean in Charlotte who I would argue is the best blueliner in the AHL. I am so confused with Carolina’s game plan. Are they gonna play 3 D and 2 F’s moving ahead?!

every prospect the Hurricanes has is just an asset to move for an already proven NHL'er its an NBA style of thinking that the Hurricanes owner likes.
Rangers fans are rejoicing can someone explain why their so happy he's gone.
Skjei is a... serviceable... defenseman. But when you watch him he's incredibly frustrating. He's been our no. 1 LD the past two seasons and having come in with the hype of "McDonagh 2.0" it has been frustrating to see him barely crack the surface of what McDonagh was at his age. Also, I'm pretty sure I remember Skjei being a healthy scratch fairly recently because he was struggling so hard (either was this season or sometime last season). Beyond that, we have unreal D prospects (K'Andre Miller, Nils Lundkvist) and young D (Adam Fox, Anthony DeAngelo, Ryan Lindgren), in addition to Trouba, so we really needed to trade someone eventually anyway. IMO, Skjei was the weakest link of them all. And an expensive one at that.

Really surprised his value dropped that much. I would have been ready to outbid this by a mile, from a habs point of view, but I guess you watched him play more than I do.

I had heard the Habs might have been interested a while back. Happy for you guys that you didn't get him haha. You would've been frustrated before long. He's not the worst defenseman in the league but he's not worth his contract and certainly not worth a first round pick.

Being responsible with our cap space = Not drafting well and having no one to pay.
