If the Rental Price for Hall Drops to Bargain-Basement Levels

Yes, I agree. Canes aren't going to be forced into anything unless Turbo is out for the year. There's no evidence, however, that this is the case.

[pure rental]. Also, Hall's a nice alternative for cap funds if Dougie is too expensive.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SalamiCheese</b></div><div>Why can't we just retained 50% and get the best package? Hall with 4 million in a cap will probably be much more interesting, but I still am not optimistic that we will get a lot for it.</div></div>
Yes, I agree. I'm just pointing out how difficult the market conditions are because of so many cap-logged clubs. This is why the Dzingel for Paquette swap was so smart on Carolina's end. Because of this trade, not only do they have a good 4th line center now, but they are now the only contender with the amount of cap space necessary to fit Hall's entire salary.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabres923</b></div><div>I think his price will still be high. Carolina is a smart team that looks at analytics Hall is playing fine, but has zero puck luck.</div></div>
The main issue is the league's cap situation, on top of the bad season. I agree that he SHOULD get a late first in a normal deadline, but there are market conditions that make that return difficult to get, particularly because Carolina is the only non-Boston contender (I make this distinction because Boston's needs are very specific and revolve around left-handed defensemen) that can fit his entire $8M salary and still have room to expand their roster.

Trading Keller
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07</b></div><div>The Canes fan recommendation for Keller was already too high and now it is worse. Pass from this Canes fan. Way too much for a guy who has scored 60 once.</div></div>
A lot of Keller's relatively low offensive numbers are about the team that he plays for. They don't have a lot of premium offensive pieces outside of him to take attention away from him. IMO that package is a buy-low.

Trading Keller
Canes IMO accept. Skjei/Foegele/Bokk/Suzuki/1st are all good pieces and probably make Arizona better in the future, but Keller is currently the best player of the bunch. Players like him are why you build upper-echelon farm systems.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dzinger18</b></div><div>Diehard canes fan here, First Trade: No, Not Suzuki and a 1st for Keller. Bokk and Cotton are looking very promising too.
2nd Trade: Yes We need to shed some cap, and to get two 2nds from the worst team for Foegele would be awesome.
3rd Move: Giving up a guy like Geekie in the expansion draft would be awesome compared to Pesce.</div></div>
You have to consider that Keller has seven (!) seasons remaining and has produced quite well on a not-so-great offensive team. That IMO is a worthy package. Players like Keller being available are why teams like Carolina try to build a top-5 farm system. Few are able to, but the Canes have managed to do so while contending.

Detroit Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>What the Sam hell is that trade? That caliber player is easily replaced via FA and Yzerman already said no to trading picks.</div></div>
I think you underestimate a guy that can generate 0.5 PPG offense at age 24 with very good PK skills and small PP time. Maybe the 2022 2nd is too high, but perhaps that can be negotiated downward to a 3rd if you still think Detroit's going to be bad.

I'm going to guess...nothing too significant. I have the protection list as:
Bertuzzi, Larkin, Mantha, Fabbri, Foegele, Svechnikov, Smith, Djoos, Hronek, Stecher, Greiss
So maybe Rasmussen?

Keller Deal

Yes...and Nedeljkovic looks like an NHL backup, and it already seems like Jarvis will take a middle-6 spot. If both things hold, we won't be cap-troubled no matter what. No need to deal Gardiner, either, when Skjei was included in the Keller deal.

Keller is less than 2M more in cap hit than Skjei. Maybe deal Foegele this offseason if you need to make up for the 2M difference, but I doubt it. There's your space.

Skjei, on top of dealing from a position of luxury and giving Arizona the defensive help they desperately need, balances the cap hits.

Alternative Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Bean is a very promising prospect, but at a position where we think we're pretty well set for the future. McGinn, on the other hand, is a 27-year-old middle 6 forward on an expiring contract, so he's of minimal trade value and no interest to us. That package isn't at all what we would be looking for in exchange for a top-6 LW who'll be under team control for several more seasons.</div></div>
This trade proposal is mainly about Bean and not McGinn, though the latter certainly has enough value to be acquired by another team for an extra pick at the deadline. In recent weeks, according to Dreger, LA has been shopping for LHD, apparently viewed as an organizational weakness by the front office. Bean certainly fits that profile.

Matt Roy's a greater need for us than a couple of lottery tickets, considering that Hamilton may leave in free agency. I like Kupari and Grans a lot, though. Personally, I'd do Roy for Bean + 2nd.

Disagree. I see it panning out more like Anders Lee or Steven Stamkos. Sees the market but prefers to stick around. Especially considering the strong team.

Overpayment for Martinook for what he brings to the team.
Mrazek and Ned in net is how you build the shakiest goalie pair in the league. Every team will focus on top half shots because both goalies are small. Forslund warned about having two goalies of the same mold.
We have 6 legitimate ELCs that could make the roster so camp should be intense.</div></div>
Maybe if the offense doesn't work, you stack the top line. When an offense spread works, though, you get this season where you get three lines with first-line production.

For now, probably a 4th a la last year's Forbort deal. We likely don't need D at the deadline, though, but that's the first name that I'd have in mind if the injury bug hits our group again.
