Fire Keefe what you waiting for
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>He absolutely is at this point.
How many years of blown 3rd period leads can one endure? Last season Dubas threw the kitchen sink at this, and the results still lacked.
He cannot think inside the game (completely out coached in the playoffs). Player deployment is questionable at times; player usage even worse, and runs the snot out of the big 4 during an 82 games sched so they are conveniently burnt out when it matters.
His support staff is nothing short of phenomenal. I am a big Maholtra fan as a coach. Van Ryn came in with a very proven track record. So did Chynoweth. Then you get to Guy Boucher and former Jack Adams winner MacLean.
Great coaches find ways to win. Keefe cannot do this. Blame injuries, blame lack luster signings, but this boils down to a head coach that has an inability to get the most out of this roster outside the top 4.
I have been beating the fire Keefe drum for a few months.
He is not the guy to get them over the hump.</div></div>
I agree

Fire Keefe what you waiting for
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>So when the team wins we say it’s because of the players but when the team loses it’s the coaches fault? .. wow. Talk about no accountability.</div></div>
Sure the players have to be held accountable but the same issues continue to be the same issues and is often masked by the core doing what they can do. Keefe has been downright bad at handling young players. He has his favorites and it costs them. He's been out coached every playoff round he's ever been in in the NHL.
Treliving also deserves a tonne of heat. He's done very little to help this team. Klingberg and Reaves? Has Bertuzzi been a 5 million dollar player? Domi costs the team as much as he helps, often it's a net loss with him. Kampf at 2+ million?
Some things are out of everyone's control. Woll got hurt, I never believed that Samsonov would be as good as he was last year, but this has been far worse than I had feared.
However, the teams system isn't working, teams have figured Keefe out and he hasn't changed a thing. The defence is not good but Gio and Brodie get so much playing time while others have out performed them. Liljegren is just now getting some bigger minutes and responsibilities and while he still needs to improve, he's been good. Should have had these minutes from the start of the season. Timmins has been really good when he plays, sure he is risky at times but he wins his minutes and is a net benefit. Robertson has been good this year as well but Keefe just doesn't change anything. He's openly admitted he doesn't trust the new players. He's not a good coach. At least not what this team need.
I wish Cooper was available.

Shanahan is the bigger problem and has to be fired and then any sane President we hire would fire Keefe instantly and the PP coach.

Just saying that if Chevy were to move McGroarty, it would certainly be for a player of Zegras' age, ability and caliber.
It somehow almost makes sense..... almost.</div></div>
Oh, for sure, Zegras would be a player you have to consider it for, but team control, especially on a high end prospect is pretty valuable to a team like Winnipeg.
I guess if the Jets' scouts were really high on Zegras then that may be a consideration, but it would take a lot of convincing I think. All those years of team control and elc are fairly enticing.
All this of course, ignoring what Anaheim would actually think of the deal.

You are correct; currently with the Hawks are Vlasic, Korchinski and Philips, in Rockford are Del Mastro, Allan, Roos and Kaiser so finding a place for Broberg would be difficult. If they were to go for a LHD I think they would probably choose a more established veteran like Hanifin in FA.

You either have to pay Willy or lose him for nothing
If you trade Willy you will at least get some assets but wont get equal value back
No matter how you spin it, its not great.
Should Willy be getting 11m no. But at the same time cant afford to lose him for nothing and any trade we do for him will not be great unless someone really and I mean really overpays

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>I don't think loosing Tage for that spell helped matters either.
My concern there would be it was a time for Cozens to step up.... and he just didn't. What he is and is supposed to be maybe now questioned; or you have a young player trying to live up to a contract - which is where Granato and Okposo should be talking to him.
Definitely not been a Cozens type season.... and all I was expecting there was a repeat of last year - as he has that in him.
Growing pains hurt. But this is still a team that could suddenly go on a serious heater and all the sudden the conversation flips. Like I have said..... the talent amd depth is just there.</div></div>
I’m not too worried about Cozens
With Quinn hurt, and other forward injuries, he’s had rotating linemates all season for the most part
Now that we’re healthy though, the Peterka-Cozens-Quinn line was put back together & has been our best
These guys are still young & do need to be managed a bit- they’re still developing & far from finished products (for the most part)
If we can stay healthy, our top9 looks deadly
Skinner-Tage-Tuch
Peterka-Cozens-Quinn
Benson-Mittelstadt-Greenway
We’re gonna start scoring A LOT of goals again
2nd half should be fun

Maybe they reunite with Tarasenko or Vatrano? I’m hoping Wheeler has a better second half, although it seems like he usually has slow starts each season for some reason

And given what those potential ceilings are..... I would be so reluctant. I would let it marinate.
Only real moves coming for the Sabres are Olofsson and Johnson, and maybe acquiring a solid bottom pairing LD (where Ryan Johnson maybe it?).
When one looks objectively at the Atlantic; the Sabres are one of two teams that makes me say, "Jesus, they are gonna be good!" (Montréal with that blueline pipeline is the 2nd; and honorable mention to Ottawa but they lack some organizational depth).
Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither will be the Sabres.</div></div>
Totally agree
Our fans are outta patience, which i get
But even if we traded for a starting goalie & top4 defenseman,
we still won’t be Cup contenders till all this young talent grows up a bit more
And there’s nothing we can do to speed up Mother Nature

Ferraro has is haters. I did some further research on his analytics..... although they are not great, they are mid-pack on this Sharks roster. xGF, XGA, both are mid pack..... surprising not much worse the Hertl's this year (which shocked me). The comparison only makes me think he is a viable target.
Believe me, I hate moving the 1st. Hate moving Neimela.... both assets are where the Leafs are thinnest.</div></div>
I don’t mind moving Niemela tbh. I don’t think he plays a game in a Leafs jersey ever. He’s too small for what Treliving likes. He’s more than likely a big trade chip because other teams will value him more than Treliving does

Davidson said that they plan to be less active at the deadline and keep guys that they normally would have traded. Mrazek has played well and earned an extension, and we'll need someone in net next year anyways. I expect him to be a guy they keep just like Foligno

Lindholm for Minten and a 1st is a solid return. If Roberston stays healthy, then it could be a better one yet.
Like I said, I find it far to rich for my liking - and risky in that there is no guarentee on either of them staying.
But the valuations are very good.</div></div>
Agreed. There's no way I'd do this as the Leafs without contracts in place for both, which, as we both know, is fairly unlikely. Even then it's still a lot I agree.

Our gaping holes get filled
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>The Calgary package is interesting..... not sure what others think the Flames will really get here unless it is a sign and trade.
Liligren has total value to the Flames. Right now, he is a player thatcis somewhere between a 2nd and 3rd pairing D. 24, contract control and a game that is still evolving. For a team that has only 2 D under contract next year, that matters. A lot. Unless the arguement here is that Poirier and Solyolov make the team.... which one may, but both? Flames are retooling here not rebuilding. Liligren fits a retool.
Minten..... a great looking prospect who looks tonround out as a 2C who plays a 200 foot game. Just because he didn't stick with the Leafs doesn't make him garbage. Not everyone captains a WJ team.... he does; and that says something about who he is. How does he fit a retool? What do the Flames have down the middle after Zary in the pipeline? Kadri and Backlund (the later defying father time) are the wrong side of 30, and the shelf life is nearing an end.
Two 1sts..... one can say all you want waiting 3 years. I get it. But the Flames also moved Tkachuck for a 1st they have to wait for. Conroy was part of that management team, so I wouldn't put it outside the realm of possibility; but admittedly, is separate deals, those 1sts are sooner.
Samsonov - Those Flames fans suggesting he is a cap dump seem.to forget so is Vladar. He has a year left. Samonsov doesn't. Freeing up that spot for Wolf gives the goalie swap a high level of logic.
Roberston: availability is an issue, cannot deny that fact. This is the one piece of the deal where I would be trepidatious...... where he is being sold as a big part of the return (which he could be), but there simply isn't enough road behind him from being healthy and the DL. Robertson's tracde value therefore questionable.
All in all, could the Flames get more trading separately? Possibly, but I am one that doubts it. The 1sts are a given, but getting a young defender back means you are getting a 3rd pairing player with upside. If Flames fans think they are getting an ability for ability swap here they are mistakin'.
As for the young forward, if it isn't a higher end prospect a la Minten, then it is a young player just starting out playing bottom 6 minutes with upside..... which right now, the Flames have plenty of.
The package being painted as terrible is simply ridiculous. The package being painted as a non-fit is in the eye of the beholder. But the package really isn't bad. Not bad at all..... just as a Leafs fan I say far too rich to embark upon.</div></div>
Thank you for your reasonable and thoughtful response. I considered all this as you did, and still felt this was good value for the Flames. That much is debatable, but debate involves actually putting some thought into things. I appreciate you doing just that, regardless of whether we agree at the end of the day or not.
Cheers!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>I agree that a retained Duckinson fetches a mid to late 2nd on the market..... as I am.one that doesn't think this year is exactly an anomaly.
Dickinson in Dallas was an excellent 3rd line option who was potting 30 point campaigns and providing an above average defensive presence. He isn't there anymore because Vancouver simply overpaid him.
Where Vancouver was never a fit. An epic failure.
Chicago takes the chance on him, and here we are getting the player he was with the Stars. Sure - he is statistically inflated to a degree; but that I beleive is also a function of ice time (he is getting about a minute more as a Hawk than his career average). Keep in mind he is also running the Hawks PK1 - and doing a fine job with that role. Speed is there, as is the size and bump in his game.
All in all, I think Dickinson could be a shrewd pick up for the Leafs..... but in a 3C roll. We can talk Leafs defense until the cows come home; but Dickinson definitely improves a pedestrian PK, improves the defensive play of the 3rd line as well, where you can pretty much bank on a 30 point campaign (current sky high shooting percentage be damned). Simply has the track record and consistency (omitting Vancouver) to know exactly what you are getting.</div></div>
