<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>The Chicago trade is fine, but Los Angeles declines the Pittsburgh offer.
I can't imagine how you came to the conclusion that "Pickering looks to be better than Spence" based upon Pickering's miniscule sample of 8 games in the AHL, where over the span of 102 games, Jordan Spence has tallied 87 points. (Spence outperformed Pickering their respective last two years in juniors, too, but that's not all that meaningful.) Spence has clearly shown that he's NHL-ready, whereas Pickering is quite a ways away from that yet. Which is not that surprising inasmuch as Spence is three years older, so I'm not going to say that Spence has a brighter future than Pickering, but I see no evidence for the contention that Pickering has a brighter future than Spence.
Iafallo is worth a late first or early second. (I'd like to know who on the Penguins current roster you think would play #2LW ahead of him and behind Jake Guentzel.) The problem is that Pittsburgh's first is too much for him and the second that would be proper value now belongs to Buffalo. The future late third is just an insult.</div></div>
If the 3nd is an insult, that depends on what one sees as the difference between Spence and Pickering. Yes, Spence has performed well, but I simply see a higher ceiling with Pickering - and so would the Pens I have to think.

Korpisalo sees that money, regardless of how the contract ages. And honestly, not sure there is a better tender on the market. Maybe Hill? But I have pointed out in other threads he has some injury issues.
As for Valardi...... he could see more, but this is his first year of being productive. Has struggled up to this point despite the pedigre. I wouldn't be going much more than this to see if he has it figured out. Perhaps a 1 year term works here, but would not be throwing the bank at him right now either.

Debrincat for Bratt
Bratt is getting more than $7.25 million..... that contract is looking to be closer to $8 million. And if he signs for that, New Jersey happily keeps him.
And with that, that deal dies.

Jordan has stated that he wants to stay in Carolina. And being that Eric or Marc don't particularly have ties to the Panthers franchise outside of this season, I could see all three of them being in Carolina next year. Even if Marc and Eric are just depth options.</div></div>
That is my thinking.
Eric played well as 4C for the Cats, and Marc looked like he found a fountain of youth at times, but realistically pencils in as a 3rd pairing guy in this roster.
If all 3 ride one more time, I see it being only Carolina....

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>That specifically has happened, giving permission to talk to a pending UFA prior to a trade does not raise their trade value though. They are still traded with only 1 year of term, the selling team has no grounds to extort the buyer for a contract that player has not signed. The selling team can refuse to let the buyer talk to the pending UFA prior to a trade (like Vancouver literally did with Horvat this year) but that's literally it. And sign conditional re-signs are now against the rules there is nothing the seller can do</div></div>
I am.pretty sure Tkachuk had his extension worked out with Florida prior to that deal..... maybe I am wrong. But given the return, it smacks of the verbal agreement in place prior to the deal happening.
Otherwise, I would think that trade looks more Huberdeau for Tkachuk straight up. Risk for risk.
Granted, both Weegar and Hunerdeau were pending UFAs, but, I would think the Cats knew what they were doing moving both players to make room for that contract.
Kind of where I got the idea from. Difference maybe Pulock is signed sealed and delivered, but if such a deal was verbally agreed upon, the value isn't far off.
Now, if it against the rules, then, no. No way the Isles take on that risk.

Toronto has zero say in what they do after a trade is made. Thus Nylander's value is of a rental maximum. Nothing more.</div></div>
Ummmm.... it has been done before where the team being dealt with is given permission to talk extension to a deal. Certainly not unheard of.
I fully understand taking on Nylander risking him walking is a no fly zone.
No. The extension is worked out prior.to the deal.

Leafs have have at least eight UFAs on their team that they didn't have to be "pay to acquire". but somehow entitled Leaf fans think other teams should pay for their upcoming UFAs.</div></div>
Wouldn't be the first time we would see a sign and trade. Horvat essentially?
Frankly, I would move Marner over Nylander, but in terms of contracts in this scenario it has to be Nylander.
Further, I don't see this as another team "paying" for a pending UFA. The Leafs have the ability to resign Nylander. So given this, it does become more of a hockey deal.
This really boils down to how the Isles value Wahlstrom (which I know they don't see him as a career 3rd liner).....

Pulock still has 7 years of term and Nylander has 1. Whether he were to sign an extension with a new team or not is irrelevant to the trade value. Islanders decline easily</div></div>
By stating Pulock has 7 years left o Nylanders 1 makes the extension completely relevant.
Obviously without the extension the Isles pass. Obviously.
But a Pulock.with 7 years left for a Nylander with say 8 years isn't ballpark?
I suggest the Isles see their window as now (otherwise you don't pick up Horvat) and the bulk of that forward core is aging....
I don't think deal would be that far outside of possibilities.

I posted an ACGM where Laughton was acquired.
The cap hit and the ability should absolutely make.him a target.
As for that line..... would be a lot of nasty, but it should matter where they play.
In the playoffs, I thought the 3rd line (with Knies) and the 4th were highly effective because they could mix it up.
The top 2 were hit and miss. Adding a physical element to each line adds a dimension throughout the line up.
Sure, put the Bruise Brothers together as an energy line when needed, but would not be my go to

What is the point of acquiring toughness if it is all in the bottom 6?
Laughton is more than able to play top 6 minutes, and that is exactly where I would put him.

That's an option.
But I chose the Wings because of the lineup I think they ice. They currently short $7 million from the floor. They are going to dress the kids, and won't be looking to add term or money imo. Short term options to get them over that Hump.

Thing is the Wings have a lot of ground to make up to reach basement. That team is so damn young.....
Yzerman isn't likely to be going into the UFA market for goaltending, simply based on what is there - it's term and money for aging players, of Aiden Hill who also has injury issues.

Frankly, I think that contract will end up being similar to Nick Paul's deal - in which case Tampa has to look at this.
