Idea from earlier post
I firmly believe the Hawks can do better, especially if they retain in this deal.

Cha cha cha changes
Not a chance.
1) Brodin is untouchable, and has a NMC to boot.
2) Mittelstadt would be an upgrade over Johansson at 2LW, as it's unlikely he'd play center in Minnesota. JEE is better than Mittelstadt, and Rossi is proving himself a legitimate top-six center this year.
But Casey isn't a need. Not when Minnesota has multiple center and winger prospects coming in the next couple of years. Ohgren, Yurov, Beckman, Lorenz at wing. Khusnutdinov, Kumpulainen, Stramel, Haight, Heidt, Bankier at center.
While not all will make it, most should, and most probably wind up on the wing anyway. So Casey just isn't a need.
Brodin, is. He's far more important to Minnesota's needs and success than Mittelstadt could ever be.

Since Leafs fans are keen on trading for them
Leafs are giving up far and away the two best assets here
Montreal fans also said the price for both Petry and Edmundson would be a 1st+, but that proved not to be true

Here we are
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>I guess my question is are you sold on Johansen?
I could suggest Drouin as well, but at near league minimum, you keep him.
I have to think a move in the top 6 is coming - whether that be for a 2C or a winger if Ratanen moves to the middle.
Why? The Stars and Jets roll 3 lines..... and that 2nd unit as constructed would be the line I would be keying in on for favourable matchups. Offensively it is pedestrian at best; Lehkonen isn't going to carry that line). Defensively, well, Lehkonen isn't going to carry that line.
Just a Leafs fan's opinion, but really..... one of those 2 need to be upgraded.</div></div>
I'm not sold on RyJo and definitely think a trade is coming (What's up Elias Lindholm?). 2C has been our issue since Kadri left.
Drouin is a different case imo. He's shown that he can turn it up and been a sneakily good player his last few games, and if that continues he will have 30+ points. I know that's really not an improvement from last year but I believe he's been good in things other than scoring and the Avs seem to like him where he is. As a side note, he has doubled his goal total from last year already so I think that's a plus.

Seriously?
Why would the Leafs give away their prospects?
This trade is bizarre and ridiculous.

Another approach
I don't hate it? I think that the market forces you to pick only one of Hakanpaa and Zadorov, but if Woll keeps developing into at least a serviceable half of a tandem I think this would be an interesting way to run it. I like the idea of focusing on solid, mid-tier role players - if you're keeping Nylander, you have a ton of firepower at the top of the lineup and getting solid regulars like Sturm and Roslovic will build up good depth and make it harder to just focus on shutting down one line.

Not sure I would be doing the Ukko for Ingram swap, but it isn't terrible.either. more a personal.thing. Always like Ukko.
Just not sure why including Jokiharju is necessary.
But it is very interesting. Definitely something there that works for both sides.</div></div>

Next Season Kings
I wonder how many people are aware that if LA beats Washington tomorrow in any fashion (incl shoot-out), the Kings would have the #1 record in the League at the 20-game mark for all teams (the Bruins and the Rangers also have 31 points at that point, but LA has more regulation wins already).

TOR Fans, will more of you not educate one another and hold each other accountable. <a href="/users/Kinger25" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Kinger25</a> knows and is at least realistic or willing to hear and try to figure out what the other teams want
Holmberg & Steeves (both Professional AHL’ers in their last year of Waivers Exemption) are of zero interest to the Flames and you have to pay to dump your trash, which is yet another one of Treliving’s mistakes of a signing in Klingberg

Maybe
I think if you take him without retention, he's maybe worth a 2nd, so yeah I guess 4.5M over 2 years is worth another 2nd.
He's consistently been a 52% on Faceoffs and a 0.51ppg player.
Habs should take this and run if they want to resign Monahan.

Maybe
The Leafs should spend a pick on a better third line center (though not sure Dvorak would get this return - more likely Monahan maybe). But Leafs always seem to think (like this poster above) that the D is the issue, so they'll probably spend on that even though their forward depth is much more concerning

Not even sure that is a deal Nashville considered anyhow..... Glass, ROR, Novak..... as good as Pinto is, he really doesn't upgrade these guys enough to justify moving a 1st.</div></div>
I personally think he is an upgrade on Glass and ROR is more of a shortterm bandaid so i guess it depends on what nashville thinks of its center prospects

Projected lineup and depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>As you said it is early in the season, and by no means would I expect them to keep up this start.
My Leafs have been exceptionally sloppy in their own end early on, but there is so much time to shire things up. I would say the same for the Wings.
We both agree the depth in this team is something else.... and early on, it is certainly proving itself to be something to deal with. I am.not sure the line combos we see right now hold. Wrapping my head around Perron getting 3rd line minutes lol.
We need.to revisit this a the 20 game mark for sure and compare notes.</div></div>
Perron looks slow but he did last year at this time and got faster as the season went on. He's getting old so it takes him some time to get his legs going.

Get a RD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>Not a bad idea, but just spit balling here
Is it possible that Davidson kicks tires in Montréal on a Barron or Kovacevic?
I get the Hawks aren't wanting to move draft capital, but given the depth the Habs have on the right side, I wonder if landing one of the youngsters wouldn't be a possibility. Fits this rebuild a bit better I think.</div></div>
I guess it really depends on what KD thinks of them and how much they would cost. But I have a hard time seeing KD spending assets to add to this roster. If he had interest in Kovacevic, he would have claimed him. As for Barron, MTL would probably want way too much for him.

I think it’s a first. Adding another first rounder is what they’re after.

That's a possibility too. However, what I was thinking is that Bear has around 250 games of NHL experience. I would rather have him alongside a younger LD than the less experienced Barron or Kovacevic. Plus Bear would only cost $$$ versus trading picks/prospects for either of these young Montreal RD.

Garland take 2
Having seen a couple a hundred of this type of take, I think the push back from CBJ fans was they would need to off set some more of Garlands salary and including another forward contract to make some room. Giving up Podz may also be perceived by Canucks faithful as an over pay.

I dont care at this point
Maybe not a 2nd but yeah, I'd be ready to pay a 3rd to move him if that was necessary but most likely (99.9%) he has positive value.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SomeonesOffended</b></div><div>Why would they do that when they could get a return for him and they could use the second to dump joesph</div></div>
They don't need (and most likely don't want) to dump Joseph at all. Just move Kubalik and that's it, enough to sign Pinto 1 years (it's going to be something like 1.9-2.0 AAV for just 1 year)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>I was arguing for months that Joseph had value. I m so happy he has been proving it. Looks like a different player than last year.... energized.
Hats off to a the naysayers that thought it would take an additional 1ST to dump him, and sarcastically ask, "what is he worth now?"
😁</div></div>
I was also among the firsts to defend him and that doesn't sound as crazy now. Well, I am rarely wrong in hockey related subjects so when I push on something, usually there's something to it
That GMBDanny poster is actually the guy that made me dig into Joseph and Laughton advanced stats and then I realized that this whole thing was just a stupid CF narrative.

Acquiring Peeke for me would be trying to balance the puck moving and the grit..... something that has eluded the Leafs for years.</div></div>
I'd have rather paid Gustafsson 900k to be that guy myself, but then apparently the other option was signing Gudas to that horrible contract the ducks gave him (or more to convince him to come north) so I'd rather have one year of Klingberg than that
