A 3-way deal of sorts.
The Jackets would have absolutely no use for him. That is clear. So, weaponize the cap space and the Jackets move someone they have no room for in Boquist, and turn it into a 2nd.
If Smith pouts in Edmonton, I think his NHL career is done lol. Like Vegas, the Oilers are in Cup conversations these days.</div></div>
Pardon. I missed he was being flipped.

I suspect there's a good chance Nylander is kept around for at least a year to see if he truly has found his game; it's not sensible to throw away found money, after all. And I'm not particularly fond of attempting to rely on Forbort, but that's just me - I think the better approach with the blueline is to trade Provorov and pick up a defensively oriented second-pairing LD (say a Dillon or DeMelo or similar).
Otherwise more or less decent.

Tell us you've never seen Boqvist play a single minute in union blue without saying you've never seen Boqvist play a single minute in union blue.
He's got significant defensive issues and so may not be a fit for Pittsburgh's needs (you'd pretty much have to pair him with a Petterson or similar to get value out of him, and Karlsson is going to take most of the opportunities he would be best for), but calling him a 7D is silly.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>I hear you on Olofsson. Don't get me wrong. I see this as more an investment than anything else. I signed him with the full intention of moving him. The players you mentioned, which anyone would sooner have, are likely to carry multi-year deals which I wanted to avoid for the very reasons you laid out..... Kids have to play, and I don't want to block there way to NHL ice time.
As for the blueline, that is a conundrum. If it wasn't so young, I would have 100% put Crevier on the 3rd pairing. It is just sooooo young. And, finding a vet presence via the UFA market, where there is sound logic to it, then may block the Crevier's, Del Mastro's and Phillip's of the world - which is sort of counter productive in a rebuild.
Lastly, quite possible there is no interest in Gustafsson. Conversely, as I said, he is young enough to fit the rebuild, and worth a test drive imo. To your point, you could also sign a vet to add that presence to the locker room in the roster spot.
The difficulty I had here is that this team is so young, and the core is insanely talented, with a really solid system. Rushing the kids (a classic Leafs move), is something I would want to avoid. Looking at it, the Hawks are not going to compete next year either; so looking a short term fills in hopes of flipping them into picks seems prudent. I think 25-26 maybe the year the Hawks look at the UFA market more seriously..... but this just isn't it.</div></div>
I agree with much of this and I'm not trying to bash any opinions at all!
I'd say for the defense...I would like to grab a Demelo or Pesce or Chatfield or Tanev and I would seriously overpay for a 2-5 year contract. The longer the term, the less of an overpay I'm willing to do. Hawks have Sam Rinzel in the system that will go back to Minnesota next year and likely Rockford for at least 1 year after that...then he can replace Murphy on the blue line, but a physical veteran like one of the guys I mentioned would be huge. I see Crevier as a bottom pair guy which is fine! Other than that even within the Hawks farms system they don't have much on the right side. Maybe Kaiser/Phillips/Allan move over? To be determined, I guess.
I 1,000% agree don't rush prospects! The Hawks made those mistakes under Bowman too. Kirby & Boqvist. I'm less concerned about flipping guys for picks, but having TRUE NHL veterans willing to buy into our timeline and understand the situation about mentoring. Jason Dicksinson/Nick Foligno. WAY over paid, BUT they are providing value to us and will continue. Hey DeMelo, are you interested in 2 years $8M per? I'm making that up off the top of my head, but we have that kind of cap/cash to spend on the right people that'll develop the kids. You know?

I'm impressed. Not many non-Chicago fans care to even understand CHI's situation and what they are trying to do. Everyone assumes rebuild means dumping ground and "CHI should be happy to take our garbage." So, thanks for putting the effort in!
As for the Schmidt dump, I will preface by saying that I would prefer that Kyle Davidson was raking other GM's over the coals for assets in cap dump trades. But, so far, he has been pretty modest in what he has asked for in return for cap relief. That said, he also hasn't just handed out cap relief for nothing. Gustafsson is a fine young-ish player who maybe still has some room to grow, but at this point he is the equivalent of a late round pick or someone I might consider taking on for FC's. Not as payment for almost $6M in cap relief.
I also don't think Schmidt would be a benefit or complement to Korch at all. Korch's transition game is fine. I think where he needs more support is in the defensive zone. Someone who can stop plays, pull pucks off guys, and feed him outlet passes for a quick transition back to the offensive zone. That is where Korch is gonna shine, I think. Which, finding the right RD to complement Korchinski's play-style and maybe be a mentor to him, is my biggest concern for a roster addition next season. If we could find another Foligno who plays RD, that would be perfect. *COUGH* TANEV *COUGH*. haha. But I doubt Tanev is interested in joining a rebuild and being a mentor. I thought Murphy could be something along those lines for him this year, but it didn't really work out that way. They looked great together in the 22-23 training camp before he went back to Seattle. Maybe Korch comes back next season and all those rookie concerns are left in the past.
If CHI is going to take someone for free or highly discounted and hoping they can flip them with retention down the road, they should be looking at struggling veteran top 6 forwards who have shown an ability to produce in the past. Someone they can possibly put with Bedard to give him a little more stability and keep him engaged, because I feel like he could do a whole lot more damage with better line-mates. Preferably someone who is more defensively responsible. Maybe that is Hall when he is healthy, or Nazar, and also he and Kurashev continue to build even more chemistry than they showed this season.
As for a forward signing, I don't know if it will be Olofsson specifically, but I get the idea. Sort of like Domi and Athanasiou were last year, guys looking for an opportunity somewhere to hopefully rekindle their careers. But, I think there will be better options, whether that is another cap dump or very low acquisition cost, or another free agent. I think CHI would prefer to bring in a harder worker who takes defensive responsibilities more seriously but is also willing to be a mentor and isn't just there to further their own career. From the outside, guys like Dickinson, Foligno, and Mrazek, look like overpaid mistakes or undesirables. But in CHI, they are loved, and on the roster their knowledge, hard work, and leadership have been invaluable. They are worth every penny to this team and the rebuild, and that is what they will likely be looking to add more of.

Avs Devs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>It's an interesting idea.
But, as a fan of neither team, here are my thoughts:
1. The Avs move cap space
2. The Avs get younger
3. Arguably, the Avs with Holtz do get the best offensive player - albeit that has yet to be proven.
4. With Colton, the Devils do add a more physical element. Same with Manson.
5. With Colton, the Devils do add more flexibility in the middle 6 (specifically with Haula and Colton).
So, where one could see the possibility of this working for both sides; I would say that this current construct is far more beneficial to the Avs.
Therefore...... something I think maybe missing. Perhaps a conditional pick? It really is the Holtz factor. If he realizes his potential, this is a slam dunk of a home run deal.for the Avs..... and I don't see Fitzgerald allowing that to happen. What this is, is a good ole fashioned hockey deal in the making which adds elements to both line ups..... but the Avs are simply missing something in that package for me.</div></div>
Well laid out comment. I agree with pretty much everything here, including that Colorado adds.
I also really like the suggestion of a conditional pick. Something based on whether Holtz pops makes sense. Would need to think more about what that might look like, but the logic is sound.

With Ekblad on the team already I would opt for Reinhart, that said his unreal season vaulted his value and it may be smart to move on as he will not likely hit these goal totals again, but with his season I see his ask at 8x10 and that would be hard to absorb into your lineup. Still it’s hard to walk away from 30-40 goals like that.
As for the trade, I feel like your 100% accurate in your assessment is anything now is the time for sharks to take some risks and gamble on young players who might need a change of scenery, Zadina is for the most part working out pretty well and Kostin is as well so far. And if Knight crashes and burns, sharks are rebuilding and it doesn’t hurt us much.

I like the idea of trading for Knight. Blackwood for Knight is a little risky, but I'd still do it. Vanecec for Knight would be better if Florida would do it.
Good reclamation projects. Sharks need a few forwards who are good at defense too.
I'd consider trading Bordeleau for a young player of similar value but bigger and better on defense. Trade skill and offense for size and defense.
The Shark' s D needs a complete overhaul. Worth spending some money on UFA's, or taking on some bad contracts with overpaid but decent D men. I'd look to replace Addison, Benning, Rutta, and Burroughs with bigger and better RD. Sharks still need a pp quarterback. Maybe Havelid? Thompson? Barrie? Klingberg? I'm ok moving Muk up next year. Thrun may need some AHL time.
I agree on Vlasic: Would buy him out but need to hit the cap floor. Could trade him for another bad contract. I've seen some interesting Vlasic for Anderson trades on here. I'd do that.
I don't see Wiesblatt making the NHL. I still have hope for Gushchin, undersized but highly skilled. Wait and see on Bystedt and Edstrom.

Prolly what the sharks would do but i dont really see them moving blackwood without getting a good/great asset back which i dont think Knight is at this point but he could be again in the future. I think, in an ideal world, this would be the worst season in the sharks rebuild, with the goal next year being simply to compete in games more often. Bords wont be playing center anymore, he’s for sure a winger in the eyes of the organization. Similarly, putting Muk on the Cuda isnt exactly protecting him from losing cuz they suck too.

Bye bye colton

Now, I will say this..... if Landeskog in on the LTIR, the Avs have zero reason to do this.
If he is not, as I explained, I think moving Colton is the least evasive option.
Now, my question is, since you reposted it..... what do you think of it? Where I think the integrity of the Avs bottom 6 remains relatively intact, do you?
Most saw logic in it, but weren't digging Kämpf. On the Leafs version of the ACGM, I had a troll for lack of better words.
But I still look at this bottom 6 as I had it and think ya.... I would run that.</div></div>
Everything hinges on landeskog coming back cause that means alot of players ain't coming back.
Caleb jones can be brought back cheap. Malinski can be a full time player.
Walker is good as gone. Trenin will be gone. Parise and cogs will retire or move on. Jack Johnson will be gone.
Only way to resign players is if Mittlestadt will take a bridge deal. I'm hoping drouin will resign but he's gonna command more.
I'm hoping duhaime can be resigned. I would try and trade manson in offseason. It will definitely alleviate some cap space. There gonna need it. I'm a try and do a realistic one with landy back

Realistic Off-Season Blueprint
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>Well this is certainly interesting......
1. I had to look up Tsyplakov lol. But gotta say..... he is awefully intriguing. I should subscribe to the Athletic lol. Shrewd.
2. Roberston for Glass: I have felt for a year now that Robertson simply doesn't have a long term future as a Leaf. Moving him for Glass is gutsy. But I actually like the fit. Ya just might squeeze a little something more out of that one, hard to say.
3. Vladar. You have totally hit to goalie market on the head. And short of DeSmith or bringing back Sammy, well..... those are the options. Only concern here is if Hildeby will be ready in two years. I think he will need 3.
4. Poulin. You are not wrong in the marriage with the Pens coming to a close. However, is he no longer waiver exempt, so he either makes the team or there is a real a risk of loosing him on waivers. Would hate to waste Jarnkrok on that.
5. Not a fan of the Tanev signing. We know what he can do when healthy, but that is the point. I think a better target is Carrier - may not be as tough, but plays a very well rounded game. I think he and Reilly would be fun to watch together.
6. Zadarov. Hard to say no to that if that is the contract. Perfect McCabe replacement in a year.
Overall this is brilliantly thought out. May not totally agree with it 100%, but the rationale behind each move is clear. And more importantly, none of the deals are pie in the sky..... all very possible.
👏👏👏bravo👏👏👏</div></div>
Appreciate the constructive feedback - it’s a nice chance on this site.
1. Tsyplakov has been linked to the Leafs for a bit and he plays a similar style game to Bertuzzi. I think Bert has priced himself out of Toronto so bringing in someone with a similar play style seems like a natural fit at a much reduced cap hit for the year until JT’s $11M is off the book then an extension can be revisited.
2. Robo was down the moment Dubas wasn’t brought back. That was his guy. The team has done what they can to increase the value on him (even tried moving him at the deadline but no takers), but this summer has to be the time to move him for any kinda of value. He’s been passed by Knies and McMann and the bottom 6 doesn’t suit his style so if they wait too long they’ll be lucky to get a draft pick for him. I like Glass as a bounce back candidate and he’s a decent middle 6 centre option when the market sucks for centres right now (somehow Monahan was trade for a 1st.. yikes.)
3. I think Sammy is done in TO. His mental game isn’t tough enough for the market and he’s not consistent enough to be a tandem teacher for Woll. Can’t blame him for how tough the market is in Toronto, but it’s best for him to go somewhere else for his career. DeSmith isn’t a bad option either, I just thought with Treliving’s history with Vladar that it made more sense. Possibly Nedeljkovic could be an option too but the UFA market for goalies might get outta hand.
4. The waiver issue with Poulin definitely concerned me - I thought about mentioning it in the description but forgot. Best case scenario he competes for a spot with Brown and maybe Poulin is sent down. I think he’d still clear waivers but if they’re worried he wouldn’t then it’d be easier to send down Reavo and not worry about losing him. Not a huge deal just tried to rework the bottom 6 with harder to play against players and unfortunately Jarnkrok is a likely candidate to be moved this time.
5. Everyone knows Tanev’s health issues, but that doesn’t stop Treliving. As much as I’d love a better durable guy, this isn’t so much just what I want but more what I think management wants and it’s been made clear how Treliving feels about Tanev. In a perfect world I’d take Matt Roy over Tanev and Carrier but I think he’ll price himself out somewhere else.
6. Ditto. A lot of people don’t love Zadorov but he brings a presence of fear on the ice and it would help ease the loss of McCabe. Everyone is focused on the right side being an area of need but no one seems to realize that only Rielly is the only left handed guy signed beyond next season. The whole defence corps needs to be reworked.

I think you're probably right that Colton is the most obvious guy to sacrifice at this point. Kampf, however, is a decent but overpaid 4C imo. Stenlund, as you have him here, would be a great pick up imo and is at about the right money. I'd say the idea is right but the targets are wrong. Also think Annunen has shown enough for the back up job.

I don't disagree with your reasoning on the leafs perspective of the Colton trade but if we really wanted a guy who is in the 40 point range to take over for JT we already have him, I think domi would be our go to for that promotion as he is similar in a few ways to Colton but we would be able to resign him and keep the assets or move them for a blue line piece (which is what we really need) but that being said I thought it was a well thought out proposal with great reasoning.

Maybe not enough. I don’t really know. But I do think what Anaheim fans expect back is ridiculous. He is obviously on the trade block despite what they try to claim. There are obviously at least a few red flags. Plus no one really knows what the basis of the contract dispute was. He’s not going to be traded for 3 premium assets like they apparently want.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>RyJo was a bad idea from the beginning.....
So what value do you out on Jones as a rental? Curious now.</div></div>
I would think he'd fetch a 4th absolute tops. Mainly because there are so many other younger goalies potentially available and that he hasn't been that good in some time, albeit I'll give him that he was with the Sharks for some of that. He's the kind who is a veteran insurance piece to most teams nowadays, nothing more, a bit like the Avs adding Kinkaid last year but with more experience, and tbh the Leafs are probably better off keeping him specifically for that purpose which is probably why they signed him in the first place.
And agreed, RyJo was a gamble that didn't pay off and I wasn't overjoyed when I saw the Avs had made that move. I didn't expect it to be quite as bad as it has been though, but the last couple of games he's looked more engaged so maybe there is hope yet.

I'm honestly convinced that the negativity influenced by the media/fanbase has risen so high to a point it impedes the performance of the players. It just has to. You don't see this level of attention and scrutiny anywhere else in the league.</div></div>
Keefe was completely out coached vs Florida. The same thing hurt them every game. Quick strike offence off a turnover. Keefe did nothing until they were down 3-0. And all he said was, I thought we played well enough to win but it didn't go out way. It never does for Keefe in the playoffs. Tampa being the outlier where they were the better team but the Leafs won. Sort of the opposite of the year before.
