Description
Let's just pretend the Ducks are thinking of moving Zegras.....

McGroarty checks off Verbeek's boxes.... and is the prize here

Appleton is serviceable; has the size Verbeek likes and could be flipped for another asset. Becomes a Duck to help make the cap work.

Stanley, had the size Verbeek likes, but realistically moved for cap purposes.

McGroarty is almost certainly untouchable for a draft and develop team like Winnipeg.

You'd need to start with a different prospect.

I get where you are coming from, but for Zegras I think one would have to consider it. Still have contract control and a top 6 that is, well, kind of degenerate.

Just saying that if Chevy were to move McGroarty, it would certainly be for a player of Zegras' age, ability and caliber.

It somehow almost makes sense..... almost.

Yeah good luck slick, Other 30 teams offer up a far better deal than this, Stanley is pretty much a bust or reclamation project. Appleton isn't getting it done. McGroarty is the only decent piece in the whole deal And Chevy isn't moving him.

Oh, for sure, Zegras would be a player you have to consider it for, but team control, especially on a high end prospect is pretty valuable to a team like Winnipeg.

I guess if the Jets' scouts were really high on Zegras then that may be a consideration, but it would take a lot of convincing I think. All those years of team control and elc are fairly enticing.

All this of course, ignoring what Anaheim would actually think of the deal.

Honestly, I think Zegras' name popping up is insane. No reason for the Ducks to move him. But at the same time since he has popped up, you have to play with it lol

I agree, there has to be very close to no chance they move him.

As I said in my description:

Stanley is for cap purposes.... meaning I already know he adds little to no value to the deal. Slick enough to figure that out.

Appleton is serviceable.... meaning he could play as a Duck, but more than likely flipped at some point.

McGroarty is the prize.... and to suggest he is "decent" is seriously undervaluing what he is. There are many prospects like him - Gauthier was ine of them and the Ducks did what again?

30 teams can line up. Maybe someone beats it. But then you have to take into account what Verbeek values. That thins out the herd quickly.

I personally don't think the Ducks are shopping Zegras. No reason to. But when a name pops up, I try things.

We traded from a position from which we were overflowing with depth to acquire him. We had far too many talented puck moving defensemen, and Mintyukov replaced Drysdale on the power play while Drysdale was out with injury.

We are not deep at top 6 wing, which is why we traded for Gauthier, so why downgrade from Zegras to McGroaty?

Well, I am not sure it is a downgrade per say.

But, I guess such a move by the Ducks would depend on whether they see Zegras as strictly a C or not.

Again...... the name pops up, you play with it. Again, I think the Ducks making such a move makes little sense

It’s fun to imagine Chevy going after Zegras for sure. I think the jets would rather move Barlow, Lucius, even Lambert before McGeesus but I would understand if that’s who Verbeek really wanted.

I honestly think it makes sense for the Jets to swap a teenager for an early 20s guy who will fit better with the competitive window we have right now with Ehlers, KFC, JoMo, etc on good contracts.

That being said idk if Zegras fits well with the team or not, but fun to think about. Not often a young top 6 C gets moved
