Description
Assuming Kakko and Chytil return before the end of the season, the amount of cap space the Rangers will be able to work with will likely be limited. If this is the case, then the Rangers should focus on cheap rentals that can help the Rangers fill any possible holes in the lineup. The Rangers need increased offensive production from their 4th line, and Sundqvist would be able to contribute more scoring and physical play. Sundqvist can also play anywhere in the lineup while Rangers wait for Kakko to return. Gilbert can be brought in to take pressure off Gustafsson in case his offense-heavy game fails to translate well in the playoffs. Gilbert is a steady defensive defenseman and pending UFA. Getting cheap rentals may ultimately be the best option for a team that needs more depth but lacks draft capital and possibly cap space.

I am.one left wondering if the Rangers don't do some gymnastics to address the right wing. Been an Achillies heel for a few seasons..... and where Lafreniere has looked better, Kakko and Wheeler have not.

Just thinking that adding a legit scoring threat there (as they have done two years running) isn't outside the realm of possibility.

Maybe they reunite with Tarasenko or Vatrano? I’m hoping Wheeler has a better second half, although it seems like he usually has slow starts each season for some reason

Wheeler has looked a bit like his old self lately. 3 goals 8 points in his last 7 games

Kakko had a slow start because Kreider and Mika had bad 5v5 starts too. That line was shooting 4% before Kakko got hurt. Even though Kakko doesn’t have much offense, his defense and possession is sorely missed, as well as pushing guys down the lineup (brodzinski/Bonino)

Time will tell. Still runway left. So maybe Wheeler is getting comfy and my point becomes moot.

I mean I definitely don’t think he’s built for the 1st line anymore but it’s working for now

I really hope they don’t overpay for guys that won’t guarantee a cup, like lindholm. Because Henrique can do the same 3C job but cheaper cost
