MIN FIRE SALE
MN
1) Wild need cap space and to start making big moves before their penalty falls off.
2) Faber has shown he is the new Defensive leader and the Wild should begin retooling around that and some additional size.
3) Guerin is looking to shop Rossi (Not sure why), so looking to Utah to give them Center Depth from a solid young center looking to be a 1C, and to boot his old coach is now the coach of Utah.
4) Several other players are just depth players which MN has in abundance, time to get some out the door for other teams to use to fill their depth.
Utah
1) They want to make a splash! What better way to do that then picking up a young Center and buying Defensive pieces to build up a D-core that is pretty weak.
2) They sell peanuts to do it, minus Guenther
EDM
1) The Oilers have put themselves in a terrible position where they have 10M to sign 8 players, 2 of which will be looking for raises minimum.
2) What better way to address this then going to another team suffering from not just Cap issues but having an overflowing roster of depth players? You get one for term, one half off and another to fill in depth. Plus you get to drop a player who you will probably not resign and he is worth 4M? Easy deal imo.

Oilers Cheap Depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SiouxMe</b></div><div>Not sure it’s much of a positive for EDM though.</div></div>
My thoughts as to why this is good for EDM is because:
1) Currently need to resign or move up 8 players and only have 10M in cap to do so without dumping a core piece.
2) Broberg is likely to get a good next contract of 2M-3M AAV for a decent term. that puts them down to 8M or less to resign or bring up players where the average cap hit coming from each is about 900K.
3) This trade takes care of 2 of those positions on Forward and they get good term for one of those players which they need. Additionally it keeps their D-core at 6 as well.
So with that said, in a world where it takes place they are now sitting at 7M (assuming Brobergs Contract is closer to 2M AAV) and now they only need to resign or bring up 5 players. Now granted they may need to make other moves as that is still a very small amount of cap, this gives them 2 less contracts to worry about and provides the depth they need to more comfortably bring players up to fill positions.

Oilers Cheap Depth
The Oilers are in Desperate need of Depth and with only 10M and 6 Forwards and 2 Defense needed, they need to shed who they dont plan to have in 2 yrs. With the Emergence of Broberg and Bouchard likely not going anywhere that leave CeCi as the odd man out and MN is desperate for a RD with size and has depth pieces they can look to move. Gaudreau gives them a cheap option at Bottom 6, Merrill will backfill the D position at a cheaper cost and if they like him they can resign. Mojo gives them a temp solution at 50% retained to backfill the Forward base

Minn Utah
Utah is attempting to come make big moves this off season with their cap space and with 0 Defensemen currently signed to contracts and the need to further develop their D-Core getting a solid two way top 6 Center that scores 20+ goals and getting an NHL ready LD in tow would help them greatly.
Minnesota on the other hand needs a player who shoots the puck and can bring scoring in tow, Guenther fits that bill perfectly with the side to boot.
Both teams get what they are after and with Utah being forward heavy in its prospects and Minnesota needing Wingers them giving up their top Defensive prospect plus Rossi for Guenther and a 6th should leave both teams feeling good about this exchange.

Jets Wild Blockbuster
The Jets are looking for a Top 4 Defensemen and the Wild are looking for Scoring Depth. With Faber stepping into the role of the Spurgeon last season in the top pairing and finishing second in the rookie of the year debate behind Bedard the Wild should look to move on from Spurgeon and get some scoring in. Hunt is also ready for NHL minutes so this gives the Jets an added asset they can look to for the future of their defensive core as well while the Wild get some cash back for additional changes that they need to start making.
All in all the Jets get their ask in Defensemen and the Wild get their NEED in a Top 6 contributor plus a little added space on the cap sheet for other moves.

Utah gains Depth
Utah:
-Gains Center and Wing Depth
-Gives up early round pick plus a third for a late round pick for Necas
-Gives up Guenther and a 7th for Rossi and Mojo
Carolina
-Gains a priority pick and a late 3rd for a Necas
-No Loses here as they are attempting to move him. (Public knowledge)
Minnesota
-Gains a Scoring Winger who prefers to shoot the puck (Minnesota needs this as it is ripe with passers), and gains some cap space for a rookie to try and earn their spot. (Might backfire but they need to try something)
-Loses Rossi (Guerin seems he wants him moved, which baffles me given the year he had and that he is a productive center playing top 6)

Fair
Overall, I think Carolina says no, or counters with a very different trade.
Here is my reasoning.
1) Brady Tkachuk (24) is a comparable trade to Guentzel (29) plus Necas and the 2nd to get them over the top. (Evenish, probably slightly favored to Ottawa)
2) Fredrik Andersen for Joonas Korpisalo (Not sure why they would do this part) and 5th round pick (Downgrade for Carolina)
3) Andrei Svenchnicov swap for Jakob Chychrun with resign? (Major lose on return for Carolina)
4) With the above said, where does the 1st rounder fit in?
Here is what I would expect in the counter:
Ottawa gets:
- Guentzel with Resign
- Necas with Resign
- Andersen (Better Goalie then they currently have even if he would technically be a cap dump from Carolina)
- 1st Round Pick
- 4th Round Pick
Caorlina gets:
-Tkachuk
-Chychrun
Reasoning
1) I think the first part from my previous reasoning is what keeps them interested so I think that part stays, but Carolina will what a touch more so they add part 2.
2) Andersen plus an upgrade from the 2nd to the 1st Round Pick and the addition of a 4th Round Pick gets them Chychrun if they are ready for Kochetkov to take the reigns in net.

Utah buys Necas
Carolina doesnt even consider and here is why. They would be trading a young goalie who had a .911 AAV, a second pairing d-man on a very good D-core and a player that is a Top 6 Winger on a competitor that can also take face-offs and produces 50+ pt seasons for a Prospect (Granted he is good) and a 2nd round pick. This package for Carolina that is in win now is way too light.
Probably would need to upgrade that prospect to Cooley, keep the 2nd and add a 5-7th round pick to get considered if the target is that package from Carolina.

First Round Pick Swaps
New Jersey:
Having been very vocal about shopping their first round pick for a Goalie, this trade allows them to keep a first round pick (be it further down the pick order) and acquire a Goalie that they could chose to keep or include in a trade with their first for a higher caliber Goalie.
All in all this costs the Devils a 4th and pick position in the first round. What they get is a young goalie who had a down year after being an animal with a .931
Carolina
They have been fairly adamant about how they dont think they can afford Necas going forward, but they want a player who can compete at minimum in return. Well in this trade they get that in Rossi, move up the pick order to where they could get a second player that could play as soon as this year (on the lower lines) and they get a 4th in this years draft.
Minnesota
By shipping out a Goalie that there is simply no room for now that they resigned Fluery, and moving on from Rossi (which is insane to me personally given his last season and he is 22!?!). They are able to acquire a Top 6 Winger that could potentially move into Center or atleast fight for it. They also lost a pick this year in the 4th round but get one back in 2026.

Wild Flyers
Wild
The Wild (or atleast Bill) has made it clear they are willing to trade Rossi for a "similar" talent that has more size. Tippett fits this bill and should pair well with Yurov when he comes over at the end of this next season.
Flyers
The Flyers are even more desperate for Cap space than the Wild and are in desperate need for help down the middle. Rossi is coming off of a Rookie of the Year nominee season, and has only had his stock rise after his international play this off-season. He is showing a massive up tick in his game and he is only 22. The fact that the Wild are willing to part with a Player that has only been improving and at a nice pace is something that baffles me as to why they would want to move on from, but hey that's just all the more reason for a team with a very deep Winger pool to snag a Center that will only help their team now and for the foreseeable future.
Back Draws of the Trade
Flyers lose Tippet, but due to a deep Winger pool this might be something they are ok with given the position they are getting in return and the value of it. A 22yr old 2C when you only have a 1C on your team? Not a bad deal when you have 6-7 Top 6 Wingers.
Wild are closer to the cap line while in Cap hell. With them looking to move other pieces like Gus and Mojo this might be something that they are ok with.

MN DET
Det:
With an Aging Goalie and Defensive core Detroit needs to get its team more in line with where it wants to be. Luckily for them Minnesota is flush with young players, some of which they are looking to move now or could be swayed into doing.
Minnesota:
They are desperately looking for another player (preferably young) that can challenge for a top line spot or at least be a main stay in the top six as a consistent contributor.
Why it works:
1. Detroit gets an NHL ready Defensemen that is young, a goalie who is 5 yrs younger than their youngest goalie and who is ready to prove he is a starter.
2. Detroit gets a 2C to add additional depth to the most desired position in hockey
3. Minnesota gets a Top 6 player that can challenge to play on the first line with Kaprizov, and he is still young, while also opening up other positions for up and coming players needing a roster spot.
Basically Minnesota's bursting talent pool of young players is causing them to push out players they may want to keep if possible, but unfortunately you only get so many roster spots. So one team's problem is another teams payday. 3 young players and a vet at a bargain cap hit for 1 young player and a 4th round pick 2yrs down the road which has low odds to become a NHL player outside the Bottom 6. Not a bad deal when your team needs a larger retooling than just one position.

Utah MN Headliner V2
Revised Post Feedback
Minnesota Reason for Trade:
MN looking to open cap, and Rossi's time looking limited due to him not meeting Guerin's size target.
Utah Reason for Trade:
Utah is in the middle of a rebuild with the bulk of it targeted around this and next season. A young center who is making his presence known and has chemistry with the new head coach? Definitely fits the bill.
Logic for why it works:
1) Utah looks like a good new home now that his old coach is in charge and has the hots for him.
2) For Minnesota to part ways with a 2C that was a Rookie of the Year nominee and solid producer they will need a good package as Center is a premium position and often yields crazy returns.
3) With the pick being more in the future, Utah keeps its chips in hand for the rebuild classes they are targeting and gets another pick now when they need it.
4) Mojo although being a rental will act as an offset for the Center premium along with the draft pick swap and will offer some experience and speed to their developing line-up at a very cheap contract (which sadly MN can't afford due to the 15M dead cap).

Utah however being in the middle of a rebuild targeted around this and next season won't be looking to give up big picks now. So by getting the 2026 1st round and Guenther Minnesota would consider if it means openning up some additional cap with Utah taking on Johansson's contract from MN with a 4th rounder as payment offset.

Necas to Flyers
I like this trade for Carolina in concept, I think if you would need to swap that player out for a prospect for them to consider it though (Could be a projected bottom 6 forward).
They are looking to have Cap space for several resigns in the Defense department and to hunt for a Center for their second line. Only other considerations would be if they were getting a quality Defender on retention for a couple years or Center on the same, not a loaner who they probably wont resign for 2025.

Wild Decline, not enough there for them to make this trade. They want space on their roster or a proven sub 30 top 6 forward. Rossi was also a Calder cup nominee this season who out performed that player by a good margin. Sure he has size on Rossi, but thats all.

With Nashville trading away their Assistant Captain Ryan McDonagh, their is a leadership roll and defensive hole to fill. The Team also is making moves as though it is trying to do a partial rebuild asap, which makes this trade seem like something they might go for. It fills the new D hole with a top pairing Defense man, gives them a more recent pick and keeps them competitive now.
For NJ they get their Goalie tandem issue that has plagued them in a better state. (Even with Gus having a down year)
For MN they get a 1st round pick and drop Cap allowing them to pursue key pieces this summer for Karill.

3 Way Trade to Address Need
Yah the trade I put together is just addressing a lot of rumors I've been seeing in one go that fits the ask for all teams.
For the Preds it gets them the younger aspect but also now gives them full negotiation control around the Saros trade they are looking to do for a big return (kind of hard to control that with a rookie or no signed returning goalies on roster imo)
For the Canes it gets them free of a painful arbitration that they won't be able to stomach when they want to address their defensive need that they even acknowledged again the other day in a press conference.
For the Wild, they get a new offensive tool, but lose their defensive main stay in order to not get wrecked by their cap hell situation. Plus they lose their back-up and expected starter next season in order to get that offensive tool they need to help keep Karill happy (He is allegedly threatening to leave if the secondary scoring does not improve, which is fair)

3 Way Trade to Address Need
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>I don't see Necas getting over $7M next season, but if CAR doesn't want to pay that much to a forward hitting his prime, why would they want to pay that much to a broken down and injured 34 year old? That's a brutal return for them.</div></div>
I agree that amount does seem high, but that is what a lot of speculated amounts are for what he will command in return should it go to arbitration. Carolina has said they feel that will be "too rich for their blood" and that they have intention to acquire right shot Centers and prioritize Defense this off-season above all else. Given their roster's Defense is all up for renewal, or has 1-yr left this gives them a longer standing piece plus draft capital which is what they are rumored to want (more so the draft capital than anything else for a future retool down the road)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>
NSH isn't going to give up a 2nd for a back up, when they can just re-sign Lankinen. He's better than Gustavsson, and won't cost $3.75M.</div></div>
Goalies make no sense to me in how they impact draft pick values but a late 2nd, early 3rd is what back-ups go for it seems (also fits with rumored expected return for Gus). And with how Nashville is a team I see making playoffs for the next few seasons atleast, I would put them as a late 2nd round pick. But your point is totally fair. This more so would be to open them up to controlling the conversation more around a Saros trade (with no signed Goalies, they have less control then if they have one signed, but they could address this with that resign you mentioned too), which they are rumored to do in order to get either draft capital or younger talent (Gus also fits that "younger" approach they are rumored to favor).

3 Way Trade to Address Need
With Minnesota being in need of Cap space and to retool to appease Karill, this trade for them opens up cap space to do a sign and trade for Nemas.
For Carolina this addresses their desire to get a return for Nemas who through arbitration would get an expected 7-7.5 AAV return that they dont want to pay. With their D-Core on its way out, they lock in a Top pairing D-man who is looking to be on a contender for a few years to come, thus allowing them to further address D-sided Roster needs with more safety. Plus a second round pick.
For Nashville, they get a younger Back-up Goalie (Starter if Saros is traded, rumor is he will be) for a 2nd Round pick when they have abundant picks. This allows them to safely trade Saros if they desire and command a greater haul as they have a goalie in place once he leaves.

With Carolina being adement about wanting to move on from Nemas given they don't believe they can afford him if they resign Guentzel, and they need to fill another 5 roster spots with around 15 mil (after resigning Guentzel for lets say 12 mil). They are going to want to shop him for ideally defense and a cheap young player with potential given the rumors going around regarding a need on the blue line and desire to be younger. In this trade they get both plus a pick, and their trade partner in the Wild get help they desperately need in the Top 6. With Faber breaking out and other young players breaking into the league for the Wild, this should be a focus pick-up for them given Kaprizov's public desire to get in Play-off shape or its bye bye Minnesota.

Regarding the flames side, the flames have been very vocal (atleast in the offseason) that they are trying to right the ship and get good players with contract depth. Elias has been vocal he isnt staying unless its for a large price tag. I can see how maybe pairing it with a higher seeded pick is a better deal, but player wise they are getting a strong top line D man with several years of retention for a player that wants out. What do you think this side needs? From the rumors Ive read its been sounding like he’s fine with walking into free agency.
As for the Leafs they need Leadership and have been targeting toughness, in that trade they get both plus a young talent. Only thing here I can see is perhaps getting cap space retention on a portion of the foligno contract, but I’d like to hear your thoughts too.
