Regarding the flames side, the flames have been very vocal (atleast in the offseason) that they are trying to right the ship and get good players with contract depth. Elias has been vocal he isnt staying unless its for a large price tag. I can see how maybe pairing it with a higher seeded pick is a better deal, but player wise they are getting a strong top line D man with several years of retention for a player that wants out. What do you think this side needs? From the rumors Ive read its been sounding like he’s fine with walking into free agency.

As for the Leafs they need Leadership and have been targeting toughness, in that trade they get both plus a young talent. Only thing here I can see is perhaps getting cap space retention on a portion of the foligno contract, but I’d like to hear your thoughts too.

How?

Minnesota is moving arguably the best defensive defenseman in the league on a great contract for a career 2C by metrics that wants over $9M and ISN'T staying longterm.

How in the hell does Minnesota win this at all? I love Lindholm, but I wouldn’t trade Brodin for him straight up.
