Équipe: 2024-25 Maple Leafs de Toronto

Description
The scenario in this case is that Minten isn't ready yet. If he was then there's an easy case to say he's the perfect fit alongside Knies and a scoring right wing, I could even see a kid line of Knies-Minten-Robo if Nylander is pushed up to save even more money.
Signs are pointing in the direction that Minten might need a season on the Marlies before stepping into a spot, and in that case, the team needs to address 3 concerns: adding a new RW to the top 6, adding a 3C, and overhauling the D-core, all while moving off Marner in the process. In this specific case, Dvorak makes sense as a 1 year solution to stall for Minten and to be a 2 way forechecking/faceoff winning center who hands the puck to Nylander to score, and Kane makes sense to be a high volume scoring winger who does it all on offence, and hopefully the duo of Tavares and McMann can defensively pull the weight.

The Marner deal kills a few birds with one stone:
-Calgary leaves with Weeger's deal off the books and with 3 prospects (4 if you count Bean), a first, and a defense who'll fetch them a pick or two at deadline, teeing them up for a solid rebuild.
-Columbus walks away with a new 26 year old star 2 way/playmaking winger without losing a single player who was a lock to make the roster, with the only risk being whether Marner extends, a problem that would be solved with a sign and trade.
-Finally the Leafs come out of this with 2 brand new top 4 defense with term, overhauling the defense in the process.

Grebyonkin, Timmins, and Hildeby are the go to extra guy at each position, but I kept Hildeby and Grebyonkin down for the purpose of staying under the roster limit and cap ceiling.

Détails additionnels:
If you're Columbus, you can look at the trade like this
The Jackets had:
-the 7th worst PK% in the league
-the 2nd worst PP% in the league
-the 2nd most goals against in the league
-the 9th least goals for in the league
All things Marner immediately improves, the only issue is the question of if he'd resign, because if he did then Columbus would do this in a heartbeat.
Columbus only loses a pick that can have protections and is destined to be lower after the deal, a prospect who likely won't crack this young lineup, a prospect who at his best is a Marner clone without the defense, 3 years at $4 mil of 32 yr old Gudbranson, and a defense prospect who's the 8th guy on this team.

Détails additionnels:
If you're a Calgary fan wondering why you're trading two top 4 defense for something you deem to be too low value, consider this
-Calgary did not make the playoffs
-Calgary has no young talent with a high enough ceiling to build around
-Calgary's average team age is 28.6 yrs old
-Most of Calgary's best players are 30+ yrs old and on multi-year deals
-Calgary is entering a phase of tanking

Sure, there's a 1% chance I'm wrong about all of this, but the other 99% screams you have very little leverage and need to start clearing long term deals to make space for cap dumps and a new era in Flames history.

This starts with picking up two center prospects, one of which is an ex-first rounder who's overflowing with talent, a winger who led his OHL team in points back to back years, a 25 year old left shot D and a reunion with vet Gudbranson who can be moved next season for picks.

  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2025 (MTL)
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2025 (VAN)
Détails additionnels:
Dvorak would be an immediate replacement for Marner on the PK and a right shot center in the case that Minten is not ready by next season. Picks make up for the gap in value without Montreal risking much
MTL
Replacing a 28 year old who probably is already the best he'll get for a 22 yr old winger who is an incredible finisher and whose dawg is only rivaled by Gallagher. Not to mention they also get a 25 yr old long term replacement for Savard for the cost of a few relatively inconsequential picks and an easily replaceable center

Habs pass. Probably fair value but we have no need for a small injury prone player and a bottom pairing RD

I have no problems moving on from Andersson and Weegar, but Andersson alone could probably get a Johnson caliber player and a 1st. Other then that there's nothing of interest there.

Flames trade might be the worst trade I’ve seen on the site so far. Weegar or Andersson would bring close to that on their own. Plus, Weegar isn’t being traded, he’s got term which is something not many players on the team have.

The fact that you think the Flames have no leverage is ridiculous.

ARI didn't have any leverage with Chychrun after he asked for a trade. They got the 11th overall + 2 x 2nds as a result. One of which was a conditional 1st. That's Andersson's comparable.

Weegar just finished a career year and a 20G campaign. He is on a value contract for the next 7 years. He also managed to prop up all his D partners. Including guys like Miromanov, or Zadorov at the start of the year. I guess no one is going to offer anything for that bum.

    Leave Johnson + 2 x 1sts + 2nd.

CBJ decline, but I would imagine they would be open to negotiating a bit if Marner is willing to waive that NMC and resign long-term next offseason.

The problem with Marner-to-Columbus is primarily that we already have two top-line high value large contract wingers and cannot afford a 3rd. That basically translates to y'all having to take back Laine as part of the value you'd be getting back. Gudbranson isn't acceptable as a cap offset because we actually make regular use of him and he's been surprisingly effective as a bottom-pairing guy and mentor.

    Absolutely!

We kinda need guddy more than marner at this point which is stupid lol.
Guddy adds that vet presence and stability to a young back end. Marner is redundant without moving out a top line winger.

If we can move laine out in a marner trade without giving up a Russian, jiricek, 4oa, werenski or Fantilli (last four are non negotiable) then I say make an attempt.

What if Toronto asks for Jenner, Sillinger or Werenski?

Edit: I didn't realize Sillinger was born in Columbus until just now. That makes it even more unlikely they'd trade him. The GM would never survive the backlash if he traded Sillinger away and he becomes a star for another team.

Jenner could work If our owner gets out of his head about it. Werenski is a no go. And silly as you said could be a hard sell but possible.
