Personally, I really don't like quantity over quality trades like this one. I would prefer the Flames to get one quality piece back for Sharangovich instead.
I can see your logic and I break it down as follows:
IMO, Dvorak is $2M overpaid, Vladar $1M. Taking on $1M x 1 is worth between a 3rd and a 4th.
I don't see Harris adding much value, simply because the Flames have a lot of bodies for the 3rd pairing.
It comes down to Sharangovich + 4th for 1st + Beck + 3rd. I haven't watched Beck play, so I have a hard time gauging his value, but it seems like he's worth more than a 2nd, so the value is about right.
So yeah, I'd like more, but I won't be too upset if this was the return.

I mostly agree, but I would be really open to moving Andersson this summer as long as we can get a better return than what Hanifin got(due to his awesome contract).
Andersson hasn't really had chemistry with anyone this season - Hanifin, Weegar, or Kylington. I also think that a defensive D-men would be a better fit with Weegar, Miromanov, and Kylington as 3 of the top 5 D next season.

Actually no, FLA is already giving the Flames their 25' pick. Since FLA had the 24' pick lottery protected from another trade(Tarasenko maybe?).
MTL gets the better of the 2 x 25' picks CGY has, unless CGY's pick is in the top 10(most likely scenario), in which case they get the FLA pick.

Trade Up At Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Just_A_Guess</b></div><div>Iginla is why I targeted the CGY pick. We could take Iginla with our pick but there's no way he gets past CGY if he's still there at 9. We already get a 1st from CGY to use sometime in the next couple years so I was looking at the WPG pick + the '25 CGY/FLA pick + some younger prospect talent. Maybe even a secondary move where we acquire/trade up for a better pick than the WPG pick and flip to CGY for 9OA leaving us with the potential of drafting Lindstrom & Iginla this year.
I know it's unlikely and would be a high cost to make such a move but MTL has some quality options (like those listed above) who will likely make an NHL impact at some point in their careers. 20 spots is a huge jump which is why I was crowdsourcing for input. KH loves creative trades to get the pieces he wants so if it takes another trade up scenario to get a 1st closer to what CGY would want that would be reasonable. Was looking at the VGK & MIN cap crunches for next year and trying to figure out if there were potential to include them somehow but wanted to start here for info.</div></div>
I'm pretty sure the pitchforks will be out in CGY if Iginla is available and CGY trades down.
I also think that Iginla will go 6th/7th based on his recent success, and him being from a hockey family.

Trade Up At Draft
Calgary has good depth in terms of young players. What the Flames don't have is top end talent, and the best place to get it is at the top of the draft.
Though unlikely, the most I can see the Flames moving down is 3-4 spots at a time if their scouting staff doesn't see much of a difference between the top 4-5 players available.
Notable players taken 9th overall since 2003: Zegras, Sergachev, Meier, Ehlers, Horvat, Trouba, D. Hamilton, M. Granlund, Bailey, Couture, Phaneuf.
Players taken 27th at the same time: Frost, Namestnikov, J. Carlson, B. Smith, J. Schultz.
You tell me what it would take to trade down.

Markstrom
I think that those trades are a pipe dream. Even with a 50% retention.
Markstrom's numbers this year are not an indicator of his play. IMO, he was a top 5 goalie this season. That said, a team might have given up those assets if they would've gotten 3 playoff runs out of Markstrom @ $3M, in a market where there was a lot of demand and zero supply.
However, now we're talking about potentially one good run, which isn't worth the gamble. The injuries this year, and the inconsistency from one season to another all make him a risky acquisition.
The Flames were negotiating from a position of strength at the deadline, and they still don't have to move Markstrom, but I don't see the demand being high enough to justify those prices.
At this point, I think he brings back a mid-first(15-20) with retention.

I agree with you here, he needs a change of scenery, and I'd rather have someone else on the Backlund line for the entire season. The development time in the NHL for a player like Coronato or Pelletier on the Backlund line could be worth more than the difference between a 2nd and a 3rd.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>deez</b></div><div>
Hague is big physical defender that could be a good player for the Flames for a long time still. Maybe Conroy values that more than our supposed top prospect after an underwhelming first pro season. Not to write him off, you are getting a proven NHL player in return that doesnt come free. Vegas has crowded blueline and needs money out. Maybe it doesnt take Coronato but the point is to acquire Hague. </div></div>
I don't think we should have Coronato in any trade rumors at this point. The Flames are likely to add a top 4D, but I think they will be looking for a more defensive D-men at the tail end of his career(Martinez, Brodie, Forbort), or someone they can take with a sweetener (like Orlov, or Schmidt). On the same note I doubt that Tanev comes back here(which I would love), because he said he wants to compete for the cup.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>deez</b></div><div>
Notice Hanley was traded for a 7th round pick. The point is get rid of him to open space. Waivers, whatever. </div></div>
Yeah, that makes sense, but I think it will probably happen at the conclusion of all the training camp battles. Hanley is fine as the 7th D. That said, I would prefer to lose him than Solovyov on waivers.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>deez</b></div><div>
Stephenson could value playing close to home, choosing a retooling Flames team. If the contract is off slightly whatever, it is more about the player. </div></div>
Stephenson does seem like the sort of player the Flames like to target. I think you're slightly low on his cap hit. The projections I've seen so far are in the $5.5-5.75M × 5 range, but that's very plaussible. Conroy said that he would be looking to sign UFAs for 2-3 year contracts. He outlined someone for Huberdeau to play with in his season end interviews. I think that likely means Duclair, Arvidsson, or Duchene on a 2-3 year contract. I also think that the Flames will likely trade one of Kuzmenko and Sharangovich, so that player would take that spot.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>deez</b></div><div>
Beauvillier has been playing bottom 6 for awhile. This is about adding a vet to the bottom 6 at a reasonable cap hit.
Back to you Craig.</div></div>
As for adding bottom 6 players, that seems a little counterproductive, as our bottom 6 is mostly full. If you want, you could bring Greer back. That said, I prefer to give Pelletier, Coronato, Schwindt, Morton, Duehr, and Klapka the opportunity to fight for a spot in training camp.

That Graves contract is slightly too long for CGY IMO. We're also likely to be in the top spot on anyone's no trade list.

I doubt the Flames bring in a C, unless it's Henrique/Duchune on a 1-2 year overpay.
I don't see Tanev coming back for a rebuild. We'll most likely get someone past his prime like Martinez or Brodie on a 1-3 year term.
OEL, and Reinhart don't seem like a great fit, based on their play in VAN, and BUF respectively. They're both support players, and we don't have what to support.
I would mostly be looking to take on other team's cap dumps, and players that are stuck behind too much depth(like Sharangovich, Kuzmenko(v), and Miromanov).

Would Calgary be interested
IMO, the Flames should at least consider it.
Personally, I'm not very high on Broberg, and I think the Flames will attempt to get quality over quantity when it comes to assets. 2 x 1sts sounds great but they'll likely be in the 29-32 range.
Notable drafted players in that range from 2004 to 2019:
29th: Adrian Kempe, Mike Green
30th: Rickard Rakell, Brock Nelson
31st: Jacob Markstrom
32nd: Shane Pinto
That's it! By my estimate that gives about an 10% chance to get a decent player. With 2 picks it increases to 20%.
That's why I would love to find higher picks, or top prospects in such a trade. That said, if Andersson is set on moving from CGY, and that's the highest offer you take it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Its right there:
<em><strong>"Separate sources confirmed Devils would send Holtz back with $2- $3 million of Markstrom’s of cap hit retained." </strong></em>
If you can find someplace that says something differently and I'll be open to changing my view.
But everything I have read suggests (and I think I read almost everything on this subject) that it was boiled down to Holtz for Markstrom with about $2 million retained.
There were likely other scenarios discussed at three different points:
1. A larger Hanifin + Markstrom package (some speculation before Feb, and then later when Hanifin 'list' was reported)
2. A Markstrom deal that included sending Vanecek back to Calgary (Flames didn't want him, NJD would have had to add a pick)...was likely that last iteration before agreed upon trade.
3. A Markstrom package that did not include retention (that was discussed very late in process...and have never seen specifics).
But as far as I know, everything I have read suggests that the trade in early February that Conroy accepted, and which prompted him to ask for and receive Markstrom's NTC waiver was: Markstrom (with ~$2 million retained) for Holtz.
Early on, I was pointed towards "Calgary Puck" by some Flames fans. They had suggested that there were a handful of 'insiders' that knew the real scoop on what was going on ("Sec214", "Dissentower", "Rastamasta"). At first, it was believable enough that I posted <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4895856">this ACGM</a> on Feb 16th. As it turns out, these 'insiders' turned out to be very, very wrong (or outright frauds/liars). And they slipped a couple of times in 'their story'...usually a red flag. I learned a lesson here and try to be as precise and accurate as I can. So if you have seen anything reliable that differs from my characterization of the events, please let me know.</div></div>
Regarding your first point. You stated it as a fact, saying: "the trade was...". All I'm saying is that the insiders painted only a partial picture, and that's still a rumor, not a fact.
As for CP, I'm not buying what Sec, or dissentower are selling either, but it was fun leading up to the deadline. Rasta is definitely an insider, and there were multiple times he had information that insiders get wrong(like the Backlund extension being 2 x 4.5).
I don't have a source to dispute your speculation, but it's still speculation, that's all I'm saying.

Markstrom has been pretty great on the season as a whole. If you want to value him as a .900 goalie, despite the D miscues infront of him, that's fine. That said, the Flames won't trade him for that value, as he's worth a lot more to the Flames, and there's no rush to make a trade.

Hehe, this doesn't seem all that realistic to me.
The Flames are rebuilding/retooling, Marner on a 1 year contract doesn't help with that. Especially if you consider that MTL will get the CGY pick next year, unless it's in the top 10, in which case MTL will get the FLA pick.
Markstrom, and Harris trades favor the Flames quite a bit.
I could see OTT being interested in Coleman, but Coleman has a NTC, so it's up to him.

I can see Markstrom + picks used to move up in the draft.
2 of Mangiapane, Kuzmenko, and Sharangovich traded before the start of the season.
A top 4 D brought in on a 1-3 year contract. Top candidates: Orlov, Schmidt, Martinez, Brodie.
A forward brought in a last ditch effort to revamp Huberdeau on a 3 year contract. Top candidates: Duclair, Duchene, Arvidsson.

The Utah Yetis
I could see the Flames rolling the dice on a guy like Hayton. Mostly due to his draft pedigree and injuries. Especially if they think he can get back to ~20G, 45P.
What happened to him anyway? Did injuries derail his career? I remember he was great in the playoffs, and in the U18 in his draft year.

This is a playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>Coleman is a keeper. The team needs a few veteran leaders to provide examples for the young players. He won't be traded at all unless someone makes the kind of offer that's so good it can't be refused. A late 1st isn't that.</div></div>
Again, I agree that the team needs a couple of vets. That's what Backlund, Huberdeau, Kadri, Andersson, and Weegar are for. How many vets does a team need to set a culture?
Is Coleman during a rebuild going to help the team more than a 1st?
