Are his bonuses paid out July 1st? He makes league minimum after his SB (and they wonder why these guys don't have much motivation from down the stretch -> playoffs)

If a team like CBJ retained 50% of his cap hit, while only costing less than 400k, I'll bet he's going to Dallas.

Although I can see Marner 50% (2nd team retention) for Theodore or Pietrangelo.

I dont see ret coming into play as look at the last big trades like this

After July 1 he's owed league min in actual salary.

Like these are the 5 teams I see in terms of best PKG/Fit

1. VGK
2. NSH
3. UTH
4. LA
5. SEA

Stamkos going to DET to me if it does happen feels like Huberdeau leaving FLA system and going to CGY

I think away from Kucherov, Point, etc were gonna see a production drop.

Stamkos should take less to stay with the guy who he works well with

If it's less than 400k real salary, a 3rd team will definitely retain to get an asset. There's going to be a few teams that will operate well below 88M.

I can see Nashville in on both Marner & Stamkos.

Idk how the Leafs could do it, but if they could run a D core that looked like this next season, how much closer to the Cup would they be?

Rielly-McCabe
Dillon-Montour
Benoit-Lyubushkin

Dont see why you would need a third team to ret as any Marner deal would have TOR taking guys back to probs match the Salary if not be 1-2m less

With the cap going up and many of these teams having the cap to do it no real need for a third team to be involved

Like VGK if they do Karlsson + Theodore dont need ret, and neither do the others thanks to the cap space they already got

Nah based on reports

Rielly-Tanev
McCabe-Roy
Benoit-Shattenkirk/Miller/or any reasonably priced 2-way third pair Dman

If they split Benoit-McCabe its to put McCabe on his strong side and targeting Montour whose gonna ask for 7m and aint great defensively dont make sense considering Marner probs staying

Montour isn't a disaster at defense unlike Klingberg and Barrie and he's also a pretty decent physical guy

Montour is a tad better than those two but still is more of a physical 1-way Dman

If we look defensive impact for him = 18% and the guy's gonna ask for 7m

Man hits yes but considering the price tag in comparison to what Klingberg or Barrie gonna command open market if you need 1-way guys go get them on a 1 year 1m deal for the third pair

TOR focus should be on a 2-way guy for the second pair and a more defensive guy for Rielly on the top pair

Tho in DET Stamkos will get to play with some combination of Larkin, DeBrincat and Raymond... that's not bad

Walker would be decent on a 2nd pairing with McCabe IMO

Non of those guys be the playmaker Kucherov was who had 100 assists this year

Like if anything Debrincat and Stamkos might hurt eachothers goal totals

Didn't say any of them are on Kuch's level but let's be honest here, I don't think we're gonna see Stamkos's production fall by 50%

Idk not having Kucherov feeding you those sweet passes could negatively affect yah, also have to adjust to a new system, teammates, and age is a factor to

Could very well be possible we see a reduction like that

Kinda makes sense for Detroit to want more veteran presence.

Looks like Kane is gone, Perron possibly too.

That leaves 0 playoff caliber seasoned vets among the entire forward group.

I’ve felt an upgrade for Perron was coming as his icetime kept going down as last season progressed, bottoming out around the trade deadline. Felt maybe Buchnevich and Perron swapping with Detroit sending futures to stl made a lot of sense. But if you want vet presence, stamkos makes a lot of sense too, although you have to kinda guess there’s only a few years left and he’s probably interested in as many years as he can get .

Yzerman give him 4x6? Giroux got 3 at 6.5.

Paying to move Mikheyev says to me they either gearing up for Zadorov's or Lindholm's extension or try to get Guentzel

I don't see them including Karlsson after letting Stephenson walk, let alone if Marchessault goes. Teams like Dallas & VGK don't have the flexibility even with the cap skyrocketing to 88M.
