Hehe, this doesn't seem all that realistic to me.

The Flames are rebuilding/retooling, Marner on a 1 year contract doesn't help with that. Especially if you consider that MTL will get the CGY pick next year, unless it's in the top 10, in which case MTL will get the FLA pick.

Markstrom, and Harris trades favor the Flames quite a bit.

I could see OTT being interested in Coleman, but Coleman has a NTC, so it's up to him.

---

I can see Markstrom + picks used to move up in the draft.

2 of Mangiapane, Kuzmenko, and Sharangovich traded before the start of the season.

A top 4 D brought in on a 1-3 year contract. Top candidates: Orlov, Schmidt, Martinez, Brodie.

A forward brought in a last ditch effort to revamp Huberdeau on a 3 year contract. Top candidates: Duclair, Duchene, Arvidsson.

Holtz for Markstrom ($2m retained) was the trade Conroy agreed to in February.

Since then, Markstrom waived his NTC to New Jersey, but not for other teams. Played on sub-0.900 hockey. And seen another season pass.

So why are Bahl+1st added? If anything, Calgary should be adding.

If Harris is a cap dump at 23 on a 1.4 mil deal then I guess you had better dump Coronato with a 1st cause he is a bigger cap dump

You state speculation as a fact with the first sentence.

As far as we know, Markstrom wasn't asked to waive for other teams, so it's deceptive at best.

Markstrom has been pretty great on the season as a whole. If you want to value him as a .900 goalie, despite the D miscues infront of him, that's fine. That said, the Flames won't trade him for that value, as he's worth a lot more to the Flames, and there's no rush to make a trade.

It was Holtz for Markstrom (~$2 million retained).

It was reported in days that followed by a number of sources. Elliotte Friedman, after he said the two teams had agreed on a trade, claimed the offer was Alexander Holtz, not Dawson Mercer. David Pagnotta: "Separate sources confirmed the Devils would send forward Alexander Holtz back in a trade with between $2 million and $3 million of Markstrom’s of annual cap hit retained." Another: "Calgary and New Jersey had agreed to a deal that would have sent Markstrom to the Devils in a package that included young forward Alexander Holtz. The Flames were set to retain around $2 million to $3 million of Markstrom’s annual cap hit."

Markstrom waived for NJ, as reported by Steve MacFarland of Hockey News, Wes Giberton of Calgary Herald and many others. Frank Seravalli said, "The Devils and Flames were pretty far down the track on the Markstrom deal. It did get to his level to approve it, I think there were no issues there, and I think somehow, somewhere along the way, that trade was scuttled. Don’t know how, don’t know why, but they were pretty close to nailing it down. You would’ve seen Jacob Markstrom become a New Jersey Devil I think at some point last week."

Markstrom blocked a trade to Los Angeles, according to Nick Kypreos: "Interesting to see that both Jacob Markstrom and Linus Ullmark wouldn’t waive no-trade clauses to join the Los Angeles Kings for their playoff drive. With Markstrom having no interest in being on the West Coast"

Since Trade news broke, Markstrom's play has declined

Before trade news broke...32 games, 2.54 GAA, 0.915 SV%
After news, before TDL........9 games, 2.84 GAA, 0.903 SV%
After Trade Deadline............8 games, 3.55 GAA, 0.870 SV%

The first quote doesn't specify that the trade was 1 for 1. Just that Holtz was a main piece in it. Note how it says "a package that included...". You interpret it to be 1 for 1.

I remember that Markstrom waived for NJ, however you said he didn't waive it for other teams, plural. Implying that Markstrom only wants to play in NJ.

Not that far apart.

Similar contracts: Coleman $4.9m x 3 vs Batherson's $4.975m x 3
Similar offensive production this year: Coleman's 2.09 pt/60 vs Batherson's 1.89
Similar offensive production last year: Coleman's 1.74 pt/60 vs Batherson's 1.52
Coleman has NTC protection, Batherson doesn't
Batherson is younger.
Coleman provides more defense.

Its right there:

"Separate sources confirmed Devils would send Holtz back with $2- $3 million of Markstrom’s of cap hit retained."

If you can find someplace that says something differently and I'll be open to changing my view.

But everything I have read suggests (and I think I read almost everything on this subject) that it was boiled down to Holtz for Markstrom with about $2 million retained.

There were likely other scenarios discussed at three different points:

1. A larger Hanifin + Markstrom package (some speculation before Feb, and then later when Hanifin 'list' was reported)
2. A Markstrom deal that included sending Vanecek back to Calgary (Flames didn't want him, NJD would have had to add a pick)...was likely that last iteration before agreed upon trade.
3. A Markstrom package that did not include retention (that was discussed very late in process...and have never seen specifics).

But as far as I know, everything I have read suggests that the trade in early February that Conroy accepted, and which prompted him to ask for and receive Markstrom's NTC waiver was: Markstrom (with ~$2 million retained) for Holtz.

Early on, I was pointed towards "Calgary Puck" by some Flames fans. They had suggested that there were a handful of 'insiders' that knew the real scoop on what was going on ("Sec214", "Dissentower", "Rastamasta"). At first, it was believable enough that I posted this ACGM on Feb 16th. As it turns out, these 'insiders' turned out to be very, very wrong (or outright frauds/liars). And they slipped a couple of times in 'their story'...usually a red flag. I learned a lesson here and try to be as precise and accurate as I can. So if you have seen anything reliable that differs from my characterization of the events, please let me know.

Regarding your first point. You stated it as a fact, saying: "the trade was...". All I'm saying is that the insiders painted only a partial picture, and that's still a rumor, not a fact.

As for CP, I'm not buying what Sec, or dissentower are selling either, but it was fun leading up to the deadline. Rasta is definitely an insider, and there were multiple times he had information that insiders get wrong(like the Backlund extension being 2 x 4.5).

I don't have a source to dispute your speculation, but it's still speculation, that's all I'm saying.

Trolls? If its who I think you're talking about, they come with more info on your own team nvm the Devs! Facts are pesky things but they are filled with them in the posts these two provide. And sure sometime those facts suck for your teams' asset, it doesnt mean its wrong, just that you dont like them!

Compare the above Markstrom trade to a ton of Bruin fans on this platform think Ullmark going for a '25 1st and a smaller pick/prospect to Jersey and is fair value.
Also because of the mismanagement of the TDL deal with Markstrom waiving and then CGY pulling the plug, has them at a disadvantage (@ least with NJ).

Don't think Habs are looking to clear cap
Especially not if it entails giving away Harris
Sure there's a team out there that would offer a 2nd or 3rd for him
