I don't agree with the trade down scenario. We need preferably the best top 6 guy we can get, not two imo. Still have a couple years left in the re-build

Free Agent Splashes to Be Competitive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>And why would we need to move Liljegren for that exactly?
And more importantly, why wouldn't we just make that swap directly? Either in a 2 or 3 team deal?
It simply doesn't make sense. We need a boat. We have a boat and you're offering the mystery box</div></div>
some teams don't want a Liljegren and want a pick. Not saying this acgm is ideal, but it's true that some teams don't want a Liljegren. Anyway, just trying to rationalize this acgm's reasoning.

Would look like:
2 early 2nds (top 40), both in same year
late 1st + late 2nd (dif years)
Besides, it isn't just a value issue. Why would the Leafs do this? How does this help them? We have been looking for RHD for years and now you want to jettison the homegrown one for picks?</div></div>
flip the picks?

As much as Josh is no longer a fit on this team, the Habs have the cap space to keep him around, even in the stands or in Laval.
The only way I see a deal like this one happening is if the Habs go on a major shopping spree this year in UFA.</div></div>
exactly, they're in no rush to move money out, especially at that cost.

a guy at 17 goals for a 50% retention at $1.7M can get you some assets. It isn't a dump, especially for that cost.

no, they just don't have cap problems enough to trade down lmao, I mean what stops them from buying out Armia and Dvorak and just keeping the 1st?
It's $1.5M first year
and $3.2M second year
third year=$0
Add the fact that they're not in cap trouble rn and boom, no reason to trade down because even if they were in cap trouble a buyout for both players is quite negligible.
In fact, they could have Price's contract on regular IR and still have cap room. Add in the fact that Petry and Allen's retained salaries end, and there's 0 reason to make this trade. If the pick is traded it'd be for an upgrade, a buy not a sell.

I don't beleive Habs do ANY of these deals. Doesn't make realistic sense except the concept of the last one in which case an Armia at 50% instead of RHP would be more oikely. but even then.

Habs pass, Armia is having a great bounce back scoring goals and working the pk quite well. He's got value by himself. I doubt Hughes uses his first from Monahan in a dump/trade down deal. Just out of character from him

Montreal has no need to add to an already full forward group. They'd like to keep space for some prospects to fight, and can trade Kovacevic for a pick if they so desire.
Caufield-Suzuki-Slaf
Roy-Dach-Newhook
Armia-Evans-Anderson
Rhp-Dvorak-Gallagher
and on the verge is Pezzetta, Ylonen(rfa), Heineman, Beck.
They're not cap strapped, and could get what Jarkrok brings if they really wanted on the open market and probably without a 10-team no trade that would make them hard to flip. Jarkrok is also 32, and with this 2-time hand injury isn't attractive.
Imo they'd never have a reason to do this

whats the take on KK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07</b></div><div>Good ole liljerry, nothing better to do than waiting for another KK thread to open. Non playoff team life is good i guess. I do love the hyperbole of other fans though about KK. Its very refreshing to see homers of their own players try to call out other homers.
To the question. Kk isnt as bad as his stats suggest. His 4C demotion was because he didn’t mesh well with Necas this season and Drury did. Kk is driving offense but no one is finishing his passes and he has rang a few posts. Is he worth keeping? Idk. We are precipice of that decision. At 4.85 million, probably not. We aren’t paying to move him. A 800k buyout is less than 1% of the cap.
A team like zona may be interested as they don’t have many actual centers. May not be. If, say Blake wasn’t interested in signing a deal, for whatever reason, could we do a Kk and Blake swap for Schmaltz as a base? Schmaltz will be getting paid nearly double KK’s real money next year and that matters to Zona. They get a winger they can bring to the league if they want plus whatever is coming their way.
The O.S wasn’t a mistake. Our 1st and 3rd pick ls had a very low chance of making the league, needless to say playing 3 full seasons with us. So despite that same Sabres fans obsession, it wasn’t a mistake. His OS was done in week 6 of the offseason so it isn’t like we missed out on anyone in FA that year. Seeing how this team doesn’t go big in FA either, it would be hard to argue his 4.85 million in cap space prevented us from signing anyone.</div></div>
Jiri Kulich, Matt Poitras. The Canes next two picks were forwards as well.

whats the take on KK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Why would they consider moving him? xGF/60 north of 3, ELITE defensive metrics, and the worst PDO of any Cane this year. He's been unlucky, not bad. Canadian hockey fans want to call him bad because of his time in Montreal, but he's coming off a 40 point year and even in a down year this year, he still can hit 30. Don't touch that contract. There are ways to keep Kotkaniemi and re-sign Guentzel, and almost all of them involve doing the smart thing. Moving Jordan Staal. Kotkaniemi with some offensively gifted linemates will be a 50 point guy, there are the signs of it. Watch him and its evident. He'll set up Brendan Lemieux whose all alone and Lemieux will hit the netting above the glass, or a cross-crease pass to a defenseman sneaking in that ends up going back into the slot or something dumb. Don't touch it.</div></div>
wasn't he paired up with Tuevo and Necas at one point?
