How to Fix this Team Next Year

Description
This is how you fix the Canucks' scoring problems, I think the trades are fair although Kent Johnson's value is really difficult to determine rn based on the fact he's had a fairly serious injury, would have no problem adding Raty, Bains, and/or a couple mid round picks to that deal as I still strongly believe in his potential and he can be a great long-term fit on Petey's wing. Only problem with this roster is that it makes money tight as Hoglander and Boeser will be out of contract at the end of the season, dealing Garland should give the team enough money to sign both tho.

Miky has trade protection so trading him half retained at the deadline might not be that simple. Unless we get pretty solid assets to take that contract the hawks should avoid it.

He's not a horrible player so I don't think the price to dump him would be that high, definitely better than Beauvillier and CHI paid a 5th for him so I don't think their demands would be that high.

Also highly doubt Columbus accepts that...obv they can flip Bo but I doubt they move on from KJ unless they are blown away by an offer.

Beauvillier had 1 year not 2 and also had no trade protection. The hawks were also pretty desperate for a winger at the time after a couple injuries and the whole Corey Perry debacle. I do not think that is the greatest comparison.

Getting a 1st for a guy who hasn't been able to stay healthy and hasn't lived up to expectations should be enough but also look at what I said, if they want more they can have Raty, Bains and a few mid picks if need be

Kent Johnson is not being traded unless it’s a 1-1 swap of a similar tier of player!

Podkozlin is close enough, both are disgruntled former Top 10 picks who could benefit from a change of scenery, Podz may not have the offensive upside but he's more physical and better defensively.

That is definitely fair, sorry I did not see the description. I do still think Lumbo would look for Quality over quantity in a KJ trade though. I would think similar to the PLD/Laine swap....maybe Lumbo and the ducks figure out a Zegras/KJ swap?

Now that is an interesting idea. I could see KJ being interesting to the Ducks as a wing for Carlsson. Columbus would add, but probably not much.

Doesn't matter, though. He won't be traded while he's rehabbing from shoulder surgery.

You're right. He's not a horrible player. But he is overpaid for what he is, and he has two years left on his deal. The extra year and the trade protection make him more difficult to "flip". Add to that the Hawks don't really need another middle 6 forward, and Mikheyev is pretty much a cap dump from the Hawks perspective. If Dickinson cost a 2nd to dump, Mikheyev takes at least that.

Top 5 pick who has not been able to hold down a spot in the lineup, has had injury issues and burned his ELC bouncing between the NHL and AHL. A trade home could help him realize his potential as getting to play with a guy like EP40 could be amazing for him.

Dickinson was significantly worse than Mikheyev was when VAN dealt him

Columbus would need to add a significant amount, KJ probably has half the value that Zegras does as while Zegras has struggled this year, that can be blamed on missing training camp, same thing happened to William Nylander a few years ago but Zegras is an established Top 6 NHL forward while at the moment Johnson is not.

That trade seems very favorable to Vancouver. The degree of disappointment between Podz / KJ is not made up with a 2025 first.

I could see Boston giving up a pick or secondary prospect for the right to lock Lindholm in before free agency, but the primary reason to do a deal like that would be to give an 8th year which I don’t assume any team would want to do

Same term at about half the salary. And Dickinson is arguably the better player now. Maybe give Grier in San Jose a call. They'll probably need some bodies next season.

Define "bouncing around between the NHL and AHL". He has had a single stay in the AHL of 10 games. Also, how is playing 130/149 games he has been eligible for as a 21 y/o possibly seen as not holding down a spot in the lineup? Also, one injury does not qualify as injury issues, it would be injury issue. Also, still waiting to hear how he is disgruntled. Last I saw of him he was chilling with Fantilli watching Home Alone movies or something and having a great time.

But we give up the younger better player and get a late first in return? That doesn’t seem very fair. Also this disgruntled line is complete Bs and hopeful thinking of fans that want kj.
He’s entering his third season, let’s pump the brakes on this needs a change of scenery.

Plus your assessment of kj being worth half of zegras is misguided. Sure we probably would need to add but not much (maybe an early second)

Chicago was very desperate for warm bodies when they acquired beauvillier. He was such an outlier in terms of Kyle Davidson's body of work. The rest of Davidson's move would suggest he'd want at the very least a 3rd for taking mikheyev. Yeah he's not that bad of a player but he makes a lot of money, has trade protection, and the hawks simply don't need him.

Zegras and KJ are very similar players and he's significantly further ahead in his career while only being 2 years older, maybe half is extreme but Zegras is worth at least a mid-late 1st rounder more than KJ

Vancouver has 100 points and that's 4 points away from the best record in the NHL. Vancouver has the 5th most goals league. So, I'm not entirely sure what needs fixing.

25-35 range is probably what it would take.

they've been struggling significantly since the all star break, if you watched their games you'd understand. The PP is **** and EP40 has become a ghost, need some elite talent to jumpstart the offense.
