Canes pass. 1 years of Marner ain't worth 8 years of Necas. You can have Pesce, but you're stuck with that Marner deal

Mocking a trade or laughing at a trade isn't allowed on this website, so I'll ask you a constructive question, even if you think Xhekaj and robertson somehow have the same value, what makes you think that montreal need a player like robertson ?

The guys decent however hes having a hard time staying in a Montreal lineup it seemed like. I figure both sides would benefit from a change of scenery.
Robertson would get the shot in Montreal he wont get in Toronto because of the players hes behind/Injuries. I know youre being sarcastic obviously. I just dont see Xhekaj being worth a ton rn.

I would be open to adding for Xhekaj just neither of those guys.
    Perhaps
Robertson,Niemela...Or Robertson and a 3rd round pick. Anymore then that as of rn id pass probably. I know he has potential just who knows if he will reach it... same with Robertson.

I prefer Nick over Arber...Hes destined to be no more than a 5th D with some bite but also with undisciplined play.
I do like Arber just not at that price..and obviously with what Ive just stated, adding Fraser or any other of our top prospects is a no go (for me)

Frank wouldnt be much of a player in Toronto is my estimation..a player needs ice time (opportunity) and our fwd grp is too deep for him to be anything but a 3rd line player (at the expense of what we are already developing)
Toronto needs top 4 D not fwds.

hes been one of our best defensemen since coming back from Laval, maybe Harris or Barron for Robertson but not Xhekaj

Pesce is a free agent..so thats just a weird add..and overpaid at that price..and you sound like you are related to the family owning the Canes since you wont pay your top players the value they are worth..Marner is top 10 in the league..plays all situations (even played D in emergency situation during a game this year)..and Hes not going anywhere regardless..this discussion is irrelavent..

Don't know where the concept of Xhekaj was having a hard time staying in the Habs lineup comes from, he has played 41 games for us this year, sent to Laval for a bit before the deadline to allow for him to play in the AHL playoffs and help work on a few things and had missed a few games with an injury. All that aside Habs love Wifi and are overflowing with small wingers, that isn't a trade we are making IMO

I agree with your assesment..I love his energy but on a contender like the Leafs he would be a detriment with his still developing skill set and hockey IQ...hes a liability right now..hopefully MTL can rein him in without losing the edge he brings..on where MTL is right now they can afford to lose games because of his poor decisions while still allowing him to emerge..hes spicy

So I appreciate the constructive conversation obviously everyone isnt 100% in tune with Values. I was more looking at 2 guys needing potentially a change of scenery.

So What makes me think Montreal needs a player like robertson... Ill try and back my theory up with my interpretation of facts.

Here is my thought process on the Habs side:
    1. Montreal does have Caufield as top line LW which thats good cause Robertson isnt a top line player atleast rn anyways. The Habs are Very thin on the left side behind Caufeild. Their options are Gallagher which has had a very rough season and is not producing at a 2LW pace or even close. Same with their other potential option in Josh Anderson.
Montreal I believe is in the bottom 5 in Goals for on the season. and would benefit from some depth scoring as their scoring seems to come from Suzuki or Caufeild.
Even their Injuries of Dvorak and Dach dont help their thinness on the left side. Centre of RW.

    2. Robertson can be had for VERY cheap with the potential of Huge upside given proper reps in the top 6. Something he could never get to in toronto for one reason or another wheter it be their depth or injuries. Robertson could be had for Sub 2M on a 2-3 year deal being as close as they are to the cap a top 6 winger making 2-3M would be a huge benfit.

Obviously those are my reasons for Montreal needing an offensive LW. Now that doesnt need to be robertson obviously any offensive LW would do.
I would be willing to add for Xhejak I just dont believe hes worth a Cowan or a Minten. Dont think hes on that level.
If the leafs could get a 2nd I would do a second and Robertson. However they dont have one. so I would be willing to do something like
Robertson, Niemela and a 3rd. or something like that. anymore then that id pass. by the sounds of it he has got better since coming back , i just dont know where his ceiling could be. hes already 23 YO. I dont see him ever being a top pairing D. I see him being a good 3-4 Dman on a good team max imo. for that reason I wouldnt give up a 1st plus or Minten and cowan like others are suggesting.

Jarvis is great, but Marner wouldn't be anything like what he is in Toronto in Carolina. Rod's system demands players to be almost perfect defensively and it strangles offensive talent. It's why Aho's 90 point season this year is SO impressive. Under any other coach, each player is scoring 20-30 more points. If we drop 20-30 points off Marner's totals to account for this, he's a 60-70 point winger. Look at what Necas is. Necas is 2 years younger and team controlled, Marner is a pending UFA. Look, Marner's been great for the Leafs. Keep him.

So where do you estimate his ceiling is on a good team? Highest 3-4? Heres my thought of it. I look at a guy like Chris Tanev. I think we all agree Tanev is far and away the better all around defenseman.
now you can factor in age and potential but if you estimate Xhekaj to be a 3-4 defencman thats right around or below Chris Tanev that fetched a 2nd, 3rd and a prospect. Yes on an expiring deal.

Its hard to use those as comparables just due to age. contract status. and Xhekaj is playing 2nd pair on a not good team and Tanev is playing the same on a good team. So based on alll this I could see why people want more for him. However id never give up Minten or Cowan for him. If anything i would do something similar to the tanev trade perhaps Robertson,a 2nd and a 3rd. If the leafs got a 2nd.

So a guy lie Tanev fetches a prospect a 2nd and a 3rd. Tanev. a much superior established defencman. Yes on an expiring contract. However im not in the ballpark at Robertson and a 3rd for him? I dont see why hes valued so high IMO. Id have to say mtl could keep him if they wont take maybe Robertson and a 2nd and a 3rd or something like that. people seem to be valuing him as the second coming of Chris Pronger or something... Which ill admit I dont know his true value obviously. I would MAYBE give a 2026 1st rounder and a 6th or something like that , however I just dont know if at that price if hes the right player that the leafs need to be spending that 1st on at their position.

Then your not getting him. Comparing 34 year old pending ufa to a young player who could beat the **** out of 99 percent of the league(including every player on the leafs) is stupid.

Are you giving us knies for a 3rd and 5th? Because hes a guy with terrible production for someone whos gotten 1st line opportunities.

I applaud your thought process and responses. However, I don't believe Xhekaj needs a change of scenery. Since his injury and stint in Laval, he's adjusted his game and improves each night. It's only his 2nd year in, where he's made great progress. Obviously he has stuff to work on, but the last few games it seems MSL has trusted him in various spots. His discipline is already improving and this "low hockey iq" rhetoric doesn't fit. He's going to make mistakes, he's young and only just north of 90 games in the NHL.

I do believe and agree that Roberston needs a change, due to having a loaded top 6 in front of him. As nice as it is to have that skill on your team, it could really stunt development since Matthews and co. aren't even close to the end of their prime years.

Not nearly enough for Frank Vatrano without retention. We'd want your 2024 first and a good prospect for Frankie with retention, and you shouldn't part with Cowan or Minten and all of your other prospects simply don't move the needle.
