Cap room is worth more than we imagine - especially if a team is jammed up to the ceiling, like let's say oh....the Leafs</div></div>
as it stands the leafs have 18 530 333$ in cap space for next season
under contract
10 fwds 5 dmen and 1 goaltender
most of the available spots can be filled with low salary players (bottom 6 and 3rd pair)
higher costs would include 1 or 2 d, Domi n Bert and 1 back up goaltender
its not as stark as evryone crys about (and I was one of them until I looked at the actual numbers)

I'm not debating the proposed trade at all, in fact I highly doubt Piet would waive to leave Vegas. There will certainly be other offers but it would also come down to where he would willingly waive</div></div>
Pietrangelo played with Tavares..is from the area and just like Marner could be asked to waive his NTC...not saying this happens..im no insider...im a fan like all others on this platform..having fun making mock scenarios...baffles me that people get all tight up in their panties over these roster compositions (not just mine clearly ive seen many comments on other team creations)..and I keep seeing 9 year extension in this thread..he can sign up to 8 years as per cba with team that owns his rights...a point of leverage for the leafs..if he plays out his contract here and we dont resign he can only sign 7 years with another team.
based on his pres conference today im not sure hes going anywhere

you must be new, so i will explain...its very common for a team to allow a players agent to shop around before making a trade to ensure that the new team has interest in completing a long term contract..this is no reinvention of the weel it happens and is reported by many in the know like Friedman (as an example)

Marner to Utah
Playing Devils advocate
If Im Utah
im not interested in Steeves (just coming off injury and not much upside)
Im not giving my 1st either (even though I am loaded in picks)
otherwise there are pieces to work with to start a discusion.
being a leaf fan now
I offer up Marner for McBain and Ingram and Durzi..(main pieces not total trade, for both sides)

i disagree on both fronts
heres my argument
Hall has won a Hart trophy and was a 1st overall pick..Marner is not better at this point.
Larson is a top pair stud RHD at a great cap hit which augments his value.
And of course Marner has a NTC which also lowers his value as does the fact he only hs 1 year left then becomes UFA...
Counter argument? Where do you believe I am wrong and why?
cheers (i am enjoying the banter)
ps we all know that if Mitch doesnt want to waive his NTC he gonna be here another year..id im brad and that is what i am dealt, i pivot and trade rielly to upgrade g or d

can you make your point?
Marner is at a similar value than Hall was at the point of original deal with NJ..Leafs get a shut down RHD to go with Reilly and anchor the PK and save cap space..and Marner would be a better fit in Seatle out of the spotlight and he could help Wright reach a new level. (that ws my logic but Im interested in your argument)

They'd need a star center in return if he were to be moved, not another winger. Especially not one that only has 1 year left on his contract who likely won't re-sign and even if he does will cost $11M+. Dedicating nearly $30M to 3 wingers is not a recipe for success.</div></div>
I wouldnt do it either for Werenski.
what about treplacing him (as the main piece) with Provorov and adding a pick or player (depth)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakBirds23</b></div><div>Of course. As do I. The difficult part with trading is getting the stuff lined up right. But I think for all teams in all sports getting the value right is the most difficult part. Both teams either have to feel like they won, or that they both lost, for it to be a fair trade.
And now with the coaching change in Seattle it will be interesting to see if RF changes his thought processes and opinions on trades.</div></div>
whats the deal with Wright?

get more hard hats
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakBirds23</b></div><div>Good question. RF traditionally builds teams through drafts. During his time in Carolina and now Seattle most of his deals are for draft picks and not prospects. The course for the team right now is get through the contracts from the expansion draft and find the star players organically rather than trading for them. Essential players (Eberle, McCann, Dunn) and RFA's without arbitration tend to be the focus at the moment. So the needs are draft picks and top RHD as they don't have a replacement on the team or on the farm. Most of the offers here have been for 2nd or 3rd pairing D's.
My guess is this off-season either Tanev or Gourde will be moved - Probably Tanev. And they will still look for a 3rd/4th line center (Bring back Wenneberg on a better team deal?) But I don't see them moving on from Larsson until they are eliminated from the playoffs, and Larsson can't be re-signed, at the trade dead line. Cost at that time will be a severe over pay from a team looking for a top end RHD.
Most of the offers from TML fans comes down to the undervalue of Larsson and over value of what they think could get it done. Asking Seattle to trade Larsson would be like Seattle asking for Riley in return for some of the guys on the Firebirds. Neither are close to what the teams need. Does Seattle need offense? Yes it does, but not at the cost of what the team is built around in defense. For that alone I don't think Toronto has available what Seattle would be looking for if they chose to move Larsson.</div></div>
not that it matters but I would move Rielly.
Thanks for the thoughful response I love to learn about other markets

cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jded</b></div><div>Yeah look I’m super not opposed to Marner personally (though there are some Ducks fans who are just because of the $12M he wants).
To me the problem is what value is be willing/able to give as ANA
1. I wouldn’t give up a single piece of the core for him (Leo, McT, Z, Gauthier, Terry, Zell, Minty, Zell, ‘24 ANA 1st).
2. Half our vets have outright said no to TOR (Gibby, Gudas, Fowler)
3. He’s a pending UFA, so while there’s hope he’d re-sign in ANA if he’s waive for us, there’s nothing concrete, which hurts the value I’d give up mid-rebuild
Would I do Vatrano, Lacombe, and the EDM 1st? Totally. Would TOR though?</div></div>
probably not, and you make good points\the leafs arent interested in the younglings (dont fit our window) and your vets Fowler and Gibby are the only ones Id take (but if they stay true to their public claims) dont want to play under the big lights of the hockey meca..its not for evertbody...as for the taxes well I think Cali and Ontario are in the same boat..plus is \cali is nice weather but Tor is...idk
I am on the verge of switching teams if they dont figure it out..was a Nordiques fan as a kid, until they moved..maybe I go back to cheering for the Avs? lol
