Your roster is “illegal”… you cannot retain salary on more than 3 salaries at any given time.

I wouldn't give up MTLs 2024 1st by its self for Johnston so I don't know why they'd add even more.

NJ tells you no

SJ would have to add even more than that to Vlasic for MTL to say yes

*Johnson

Columbus isn't moving him for less anyway. This is an overpay, but I'll keep saying it: Columbus and Montreal aren't good trade partners, they have similar needs and timelines. A Johnson trade isn't happening.

SJ also needs Vlasic's cap hit at this point and those picks.

Furthermore, Johnson just had surgery for a major injury that has a recovery timline of 6-9 months. They are absolutely not trading him this summer.

no reason for San Jose to be paying to dump cap rn, they've gotta reach the floor themselves

Sharks have like 20 mil in cap space and only two more years on that contract after this. Why would they give up extremely valuable future assets to dump it? That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen and MTL would be insane not to take that and just buy him out.

But again, the Sharks aren't PAYING great picks to dump contracts. To suggest SJ would need to add more is actually insane with the context of that contract and where the Sharks are

San Jose's cap structure doesn't matter to MTL. Montreal's matters to MTL and for them to take that much money on they'd be asking for more from San Jose. I agree that San Jose doesn't have to move that contract, doesn't change the fact that if they asked MTL to do it the price would be higher than that.

This is MTL ACGM, so they're initiating it. As I said if MTL got this kind of offer they'd do everything to make it work. An unprotected first and (what's starting to look like an early) 2nd for a cap dump that you could easily buy out that adds 3.8 in year on, 4.8 in year two, and then 1.3 in years 3 & 4. That would be an absurdly good return for a relatively short term cap dump. I'd rather have Vlasics contract than Gallagher or Anderson that's for sure, but if MTL offered a 1st and 2nd to take on one them than the Sharks absolutely do that

It's Vegas 1st so it's late 1st and NJ 2nd is likely a middle round pick. Both picks would likely have less than a 50% chance to even be in the NHL.

Like I said, MTL would ask more to take on that cap and SJ doesn't need to do it but are factual

Vegas missed the playoffs the year before they won the cup & are the 2nd wildcard right now. You never know what happens with a team that has 5-10 players that are extremely injury prone and are most are 30+ years old. Oh and a coach that wears on their team over the course of a few years. And that NJ 2nd is currently 40th overall, and 3-7-0 in their last 10 so certainly not trending the right way.

So no, a First and 2nd to take on that contract would be incredible for MTL and terrible for SJ
