At the draft
Winnipeg wants better players than that. Romanov is a 2nd pairing dman on a last place team. Dvorak is a third liner on a last place team. Ylonen couldn’t make the roster of a last place team…
To get a player like PLD, you need to give up atleast one big asset. Maybe 2.
Fiala got a 1st and a prospect. So you need at least one really good asset to get PLD.
IDEA: if Petry somehow lands us a mid round 1st, and then you can add to that pick to get to the top10, that top10 pick could be the centerpiece for a PLD trade.
Example:
Petry to DAL for 18
18+33 to ANH for 10.
10 + a prospect (Ylonen?) for PLD

Hard no from MTL.
We don’t ne another small forward, especially at the expense of a big forward.
We don’t need another LHD. We have Edmundson, Romanov, Guehle, Harris, Norlinder, Struble, Fairbrother, Xjekac…
It just doesn’t fit team needs (cap relief, RHD prospects, size & skill at forward)

It’s a hard no from MTL on the Armia trade. Any Armia trade will be to put us in a better cap predicament, not worse.

Assuming its Wright and Price is injured
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangle</b></div><div>seems like fleury and varly may have already nixed trades to canada.</div></div>
If nobody gives him the right deal, he could change his mind about playing in MTL. On a one year deal, he knows he’ll see the net, and he knows that he’ll get moved at the deadline and can control his own destiny. Plus, he can get a good deal in Montreal, and knows that the Habs will retain 50% at the deadline, making him available as an insurance plan to every team in the league.
Scenario…
Signs 5M$ deal, with 4M$ being bonus money at signing. By trade deadline day, there will be less than 50k$ in actual salary to pay, and he’ll only add a little less than 400k$ in cap hit to a team.
With those kinds of numbers, every playoff bound team would love to have him.

We love Edmundson, but we don’t love him that much. Gladly accept that offer.
QUESTION: if some fans are happy to overpay for a stay-at-home d-man, why don’t you overpay for a goalie.
Have you been watching Jake Allen closely?
There are other goalies out there too that you could overpay for.
Get a friggin goalie!!

Assuming the Panthers get Giroux
Dvorak is a career .48 PPG player, and he’s been a good faceoff man his whole career, on top of putting in his best faceoff% this season. I don’t think it’s ridiculous to think MTL would like to keep him, and make him a 3C in a shut down role. Pitlick/Dvorak/Gallagher could be an interesting 3rd line capable of defensive play and occasional offensive output.

I don’t see that being a fit in MTL. We have Anderson, Caufield, Gallagher, Armia… we have a lot of RWs already.

2 things:
1: I don’t think Kulak has that much value. Alone, he gets you a mid-late round pick. With that logic, I doubt Poehling and a pick gets you those 2 pieces.
2: O’Rourke, who I’m sure is a fine prospect, would end up being “another” left shot dman in our system, to go along with Romanov, Guehle, Norlinder, Harris, Fairbrother, Struble…

final nyr tdl realistic
I really think MTL only deals Lehkonen if a 1st rd pick is involved, or the prospect is a stud.
I like Lehkonen, but I don’t think teams give up a stud for him, so I’ll circle back to my initial thought of the Habs wanting a 1st.
They don’t “have” to trade Lehkonen, because he’s an RFA this summer.

I wouldn’t let go of Toffoli or Lehkonen unless absolutely blown away. Those are decent deals but I would want more. You have contract control on these two for a couple of years. That’s worth something. Plus, they are good veterans that can show rebuilding kids how things are done the right way

MTL has 48 out of 50 spots taken up for contracts. I’m all for the acquisition of Dell, but a contract has to go out. Hughes/Gorton are saving a contract spot for Harris. They probably will want to sign another “kid” from the prospect pool too.
Would BUF take McNiven?

Replace Dube & Stromgren with a good draft pick and I’d consider it. Habs have 3 fourth lines already, we don’t need more players in that category.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Pretty easy no. JVR has been on this downward trend for years, Pertys is recent and likely going to stop heading down as soon as he is some where he can be with his family.</div></div>
Any trade for Petry involves us taking a contract back. If JVR was in the last year of his deal, I’d be all over it. The fact that he has another year after this one… I’m hesitant.
Part of me knows we likely won’t be competitive next year so it’s irrelevant. Part of me think we may be trading a headache for a tumor.
The gamble could be to turn JVR around, trade him at the next deadline with retained salary, and score another asset.
But back to the original point: this is likely the kind of trade that gets Petry moved now.
Waiting until summer could “possibly” get us out of taking on a contract… possibly…

Totally agree. I like a proposal I saw earlier of including Harris’ rights in a package with Petry.
It’s a huge price to pay, but a necessity.
