Even with McLeod out, the Devils are not in need of a center. Hughes will be back fairly soon; based off his comments made last night at a team event, he said there's a chance he plays in ASG which means he should be back after the break or soon after. When he's back, we still have Hughes, Hischier, Haula, and either Nosek or Lazar will play 4C. Still a deep center group. Mercer also plays center

Now I understand why Kent was waiting ... now not only Monahan will fetch a 1st, but we can add a b prospect because the market for a center is going to be insane by tdl day!

Probably 1st and prospect to a team that needs top-6 center and plans on extending him. We are not that team. Monahan is not Lindholm.

There was an Athletic trade proposal piece a few days ago that had Gibson and Henrique going to New Jersey with retention for a package involving Holtz, I'd explore that instead if I was the Devils. If they are serious about contending they need a goaltender.

Mcleod is likely not coming back. So we need a guy who can do what mcleod does if anything (I am perfectly content with Hughes Hischier Haula Mercer down the middle). A quality penalty killing 4C with speed is the need. Monahan doesn't provide that.

They are pretty darn close this year, Hughes knows this. Highly doubt that Hughes can't get his asking price for Monahan (If he stays healthy obviously)

That speaks more to lindholm underperforming this year than Monahan being anything good

I am sure there will be “Kent rejected Luke Hughes for Monahan” ACGMs in very near future.

He's not very productive 5v5.

He's nothing special on the power play.

He's below average on the PK.

He fills no need on the devils power play.
I'd be looking for much better guys for my PK
And I don't believe he's useful 5v5 especially in the devils system based on speed. Which monahan lacks.

I highly doubt anyone gives up a 1st for Monahan even with the thin market. It's not impossible but I don't think it's likely.

Winnipeg has a much later 1st, and Monahan fills an actual need for them as well as fitting their game more.
