Warm body for Laval. They are dealing with injuries as well.
Is there just something in the water in Montreal?

Normally, the team that receives future considerations is the team that loses the trade.

Montreal wins.

The legend on the move again. Future Considerations doesn't stay in one place too long. I wonder if they are a locker room cancer or something...

Serious question, why would a team trade for nothing? I don’t really understand the logic, is it an “I owe you one” thing? A payroll dump?

Maybe it's like that, sometimes it's a bit of money, (100k or something idk) but I think it's usually contract space, so teams stay under the 50 contract limit.

Yea, well, I mean 5th round draft picks very rarely pan out. From the 2014-2018 drafts, there are a grand total of 21 players (out of 152) that have played 82 career NHL games.

Not for MTL, the farm team lost 3 players in their last game all for 6+ weeks
They are decimated with injuries

Future considerations can be a lot of things…so it’s hard to lump it all into one bucket.

Perhaps even buying a bit of karma by trying to find a place to play for a player they really won't use ... to show good faith efforts to future players and prospects to encourage them to sign. I would normally have assumed just clearing a contract with a plan to bring on another that fits better, but Buffalo has quite a few open spaces so not sure ...

can be many things.

he is an ahl player so he is mot worth anything. it means it was more valuable for buffalo to not have him in their teams than having. could be as.simple as saving 70k, a contract spot and roster spot, or it can be something personal with the player (attitude issue, trade request, etc).

It could be an NHL / AHL trade. The Canucks did one last year where the Rangers got a player on an NHL contract and Vancouver got a player on an AHL contract. However, since that player didn't have a NHL contract, it was two trades, both for 'future considerations'.

It might not be for nothing. Last year, the Vancouver Canucks send Wyatt Kalynuk to the New York Rangers for 'future considerations'. At the same time, the ABBOTSFORD Canucks got Zach Giuttari from the Hartford Wolf Pack, again for 'future considerations'.

This might be the case here. Or maybe Buffalo just want to free up a contract slot to take on retained salary during the trade deadline.
