Habs won’t trade Evans. The return would need to be irresistible. Habs have 30 picks in the next 3 draft so unless they received a unrefusable offer they keep him.

Picks can be flipped. Evans contributes nothing - he only kills the play both ways.

We need a hard-hitting 4C - someone who can cycle low and be used as an energy player. Evans is 150lbs wet.

Yes but he is a great guy’s and he is a real pro. Mtl is trying to establish a culture and Jake Evans is a hard working pro who is exactly the model that they want their athletes to conduct themselves. Evans is a good 4th liner nothing more but is value goes beyond that for MTL. Will Evans be there when they will be hunting for a cup, probably not but for the upcoming season, you g player need guidance.

They have Savard, Gally, Anderson and Matheson for that. If our young guys model themselves after Evans... we are screwed ahahah

Evans is a real pro and no player model their game to Evans, but they can look at what he does off the ice. That the culture part. And Savard and Matheson are most likely to be gone in the next 2 season. There no room for them long term with all the Young defenseman coming. So yeah Evans have more value for MTL then the 90th pick and 120pick. They can move Evans in three year and still receive the same value so unless they have no room for him on the team, at the moment it’s clearly not the case, then Evans is goiinh nowhere.

And if you think that the missing piece is a big 4th line center. Mtl will be stock eternally at the bottom of the standings. Hugues habe much bigger hole to fill at the moment then to think adding a 4th line center.

Montreal using their last retention spot and trading a center (when they already have two done for the season and will likely trade another) for a couple of mid-round picks and an AHLer is a terrible idea for them.

What would a Lindy contract look like for 5 years? I imagine he wants to make at least $50M in total compensation. Avs absolutely cannot afford to re-sign Lindy unless Landy is LTIRetiring which we won't know until possibly next year.

Take out the retention on Lindholm, remove Pearson all together and switch him with Kovacevic and that really works.

Enjoy your below replacement player or Jordan Weal 2.0 taking a roster spot from rookie D or more valuable 4C at league min.

I don't hate the kid, but I see no point in keeping him around.

It's clearly not the only missing piece. I just think 4th line should be a more specialised line rather than a melting pot of all the players not good enough to play in the top 9.

I agree that retention is not optimal -but it's for the rest of the season - so not a big deal.

As for the lack of centers - this is the main argument not to trade Evans at the moment - not that "role model" BS some habs fan are throwing out on this AGM.

Hate all you want - I don't value Evans the same way. He's 2024 our Jacob De la Rose, Jordan Weal and Nick Cousin. I'm sure he's a great kid - and two 3rd and an AHler is probably the price in a void.

While I'll admit that timing wise, the habs can't afford to trade Evans with Dach and Dvorak on LTIR and Monahan on his way out.

It also means that Montreal can't retain on any other contracts. That slot will be used where it can help maximize the return. If its a trade like this then fine, but I suspect it will have more use in other trades that don't require Montreal to go with one center who isn't a call-up for a quarter of the season.

It's an okay return for Lindholm. Hopefully, another team beats it.

Olausson is a former first rounder, but he's a pretty frustrating prospect, and I don't see him making it to the NHL. Good shot, but he's extremely inconsistent in the AHL. I would much rather if it was Ritchie(Flames add a 2nd + 3rd), Gulyayev(Flames add a 2nd), Foudy, Malinski(Avs add a 3rd), or a 2nd instead.

I don't see Lindholm signing for 5 years though, it would likely have to be a 7 or 8 year extension.

In some ways, habs would be better off getting Ryjo's cap back than retaining.

Again, going from Suzuki to Stephen in defensive depth is clearly not optimal... execpt for the Tank!

There's nothing wrong with the price proposed, but Evans is worth hanging on to.
Dvorak and Monahan leaving will make him our top defensive faceoff option. He's +4 at even strength with 70% defensive starts this year. That's the kind of value he brings which will insulate our young centers coming in on the 3rd line moving forward.
That makes him better to keep around than ship off for a middling pick.
