Malkin is 37 years old, even though hes close to ppg he doesn't warrant trading that much in prospects for maybe one more good year

And on top of that Geno is no 3C. That’s never going to be his game.

He's a playoff beast. Leafs only need one good playoff run out of him in the next 3 years. It's worth it. And during the regular season they can rest him on most nights.

He can shift to the 2nd line and play with JT and Marner.

if samsonov could be flipped with retention for any positive return the leafs would have done it by now

Leafs need every dollar. They're not in the business of retaining for other teams. But Chicago is positioned to do that.

Tavares is slow and probably a bit too high of a contract but he is top 5 in NHL at face offs and you want to remove him from center?
Horrible idea to add a 37 year old that you have to give that much up to get makes 0 sense.
We need a 4th liner who hits and maybe fights and 1 stud 1st pair right defender .
The goalie situation should be fine with Woll and Jones.

Leafs also need a playoff vet on top of all that. ROR was a great acquisition last year, it's a shame he was a rental. Leafs need to target a player like that but with term. Malkin would be perfect, especially since he fits the possession style that this team plays.

Why address something we do not have a problem with when we clearly need help on defense?
How is the center position our problem now?

It's not about trading for a center. It's about getting a Hall of Famer on a brutal team that has a good contract and is still producing at an elite level.

If it's a contest between getting Tanev or Malkin, you spend those assets to get Malkin and let the chips fall where they may on the defense. Tanev isn't winning a series on his own. Malkin can.

Of course this is just pure fantasy land. But if the Pens were smart they would approach Crosby, Letang, Malkin, and Karlsson and ask them to waive and start a rebuild.

    This really sounds dumb.
Guy goes to doctor , hi my foot really hurts.
Doctor x rays his hands and says don't worry everything is fine!
Just don't move your foot but we can fix your hands!
We do NOT need a center , we NEED a defense.
Can I make this more clear?
What does Tanev have to do with this conversation now?
Why would CGY trade anyone when they are 2 points out of a playoff spot?

These are some of the worst trades ever from TML side and none even solve the problems we have.
Peeke will not solve our defense problems.
CHI just takes Samsonov for free LMAO wow really because they want to do us favors?
Then we play Woll and Jones all year?
And we tried Bush before he was awful , we do NOT want him back ty.

Leafs need both a playoff veteran and defense. They have enough assets to address both areas.

Ya because lets throw away all our prospects and picks again for something that makes no sense.
The 2 defense you added are garbage , not upgrades from anything we currently have at all.
Malkin is not the answer trust me.

I mean Robertson might be worth a bit more, but not much. Robertson is probably worth a 4th and Peeke a 5th or 6th.

The Leafs are much worse on defence with this trade....Peeke and Luby and aren't nearly as good as Brodie and Liljegren. Why do Leaf fans hate their own so much?
