Hawks accept. We don't really have a use for Victor, but that 2nd is nice.

Ollofsson is producing more than Johnson is. Why would we do that trade?

Also kulich isn't being traded for a goalie

Chicago takes that. Johnson for Olofsson doesn't move the needle much either way so it's like getting free picks.

Victor has been playing much better. But does he have two Cup rings? Johnson's also in Chicago where the Hawks have been in tank mode for the past couple of seasons.

As for Kulich, I like the player, but the emergence of Benson, along with Rosen beating him out for a spot, squeezed him out of the picture.

It's a hefty price but getting Saros for two+ seasons allows the Sabres to reset their goalie situation. It also gives them a great shot at ending the playoff drought this season and progressing in the playoffs the next two years.

Why would Saros ever sign for 6.5Mx2 though? He'll look for something in the 8sx7

Johnson won two cups by himself? Weird I thought that was a team achievement. No reason to waste a second on a zero upgrade situation.

You act like Kulich is done for after being sent down cus he wasn't going to get the minutes he needs. Greenway came back and he got sent down to keep producing for the amerks. He's only 19 btw.

Goalies very rarely get a top prospect in return. Switch Kulich for someone lesser.

I think kulich went down because he's eligible for the juniors tournament. Rosen isn't. I don't think I would assume that Rosen passed kulich, unless it's because kulich is a center, and will continue to be used as one, in which case, kulich probably needs more time to work on a two way game.

The only reason I could see Buffalo making this move is, if they are in or competing for a playoff spot at the TDL then Johnson’s playoff experience/success may be intriguing. Even then a 2nd and 4th seems like a steep price to pay without the Hawks retaining on TJ. I could see this deal getting done for a 3rd at the TDL without retention.

Yeah. There are definitely hypothetical scenario's that could get us here. But, it's a stretch.

You're taking it to an extreme.

Forget about the Johnson trade, although he does know what it takes to win a Cup, despite not doing it all by himself.

The real question is, d you want a bona fide goalie or not? If you do, the cost will be significant.

As for Kulich. Put him in next year's lineup with a fully healthy top-9. You can't, and playing him on the fourth line is a waste.

However, if you want a downgrade (which would be great,) switch out Kulich and put in Krebs. Not sure if that would get it done but I'd do that in a heartbeat.

He won't be playing in the WJC. He needs to work on his overall game. That's been their message to him dating back to last season. Rosen has a better overall game and that's why he stuck, at least until the injured return

You make room on the roster for players like Kulich. There's no way the sabres just give up on him at 19/20 years old.

No. Can you deny Benson overtook him? Will Kulich overtake any one of Tage, Skins, Mitts, Tuch, Cozens, JJ, or Quinn. There's one spot left and he'll be in a battle with Savoie, maybe Rosen and Greenway (dependent upon where they want to play him) with a host of other prospects nipping at his heels.

He was an emergency call up. I don’t agree with his position, but I do agree that D.Granato is a great development coach and they want him playing C, for whatever reason. That said, they want him in ROC this year as he isn’t a finished product, especially in defensive responsibilities.

Me too. But the cost to land a goalie like Saros will be prohibitive. And I want them to take care of it yesterday.

Points taken. The reason Olofsson is in there is for cap purposes. And a 3rd for Johnson is much better than my proposed 2nd and 4th.

I mean I'd probably do the Saros move but you'd almost certainly need a different GM in charge before that gets realistic.

Yeah Olofsson has 1 whole point more , but 4 less goals. He sure is producing so much more.
Not saying it’s a trade the Sabres should make BTW, just saying that 8 pts vs. 9 pts. Is not a significant difference.
